- Jay Jay is an all wood Dudley Dix design Cape Henry 21. We first spotted her racing off Yarmouth in the OGA regatta and wow she turned heads. Owner Brian Johnson showed us around this classic and told how he took more than three years to build her in the garage of his Essex home. What a fabulous series of videos. Great people, great boats, and proper talk. None of that TV documentary fakery nonsense.
Total joy to watch.
Действительно.
That's one of the loveliest boats on Earth. It's got a very useful wall down the centre to keep the girlfriend on her side and so ensure the longevity of the relationship. You can add the engine from a Dassault mk.1 Mirage to help win races...Cheerio!
Beautiful boat , thanks for sharing with us all. 👍🇬🇧
Nice boat. Also nice to see the obvious pleasure the owner takes in talking about the build and sailing her.
Kudos to your wife for supporting your lovely build.
Great little big boat. And a very great conversation with the builder.
Phenomenal workmanship. Well done!
What a lovely chap. And to have a go and make such a great job of the build. Inspirational stuff 🙌
Thanks a lot for posting this video.I´m in the process of building the same boat. So it is lovely to see a finished boat and happy captain.
max filusch n
A good choice, Max filusch. I am impressed by aesthetic combined with function. I wish you the best for your building process.
A very roomy tiny boat. I ❤️ love the design.
That barking gave me a heart attack 😂😂
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Brian is awesome. So is his boat. Lovely. Bet she handles well.
Thanks for sharing that lovely boat with us Mr. Johnson
Large cockpit for that size, nice cabin... She's beautiful
Delightful chap. Stunning work!
Love his attitude and what a great accomplishment. Well done👏👏👏
This gentleman really loves the boat.
And looks happy talking about her.
My great respect for such a great work.
Thanks so much for gathering footage of yourself inside the cabin. For some reason this is something that most people neglect to do. But it's extremely important because potential buyers like myself absolutely need a sense of scale when considering the purchase of a particular sailboat because they want to know how much available space is down below. That being said, your boat is quite lovely. And thanks for sharing. Cheers!
What an inspiring story, what courage!
Fox's is the master designer equaled by this build...well done
Awesome movie thank you so much Brian
Love the teak. Beautiful boat.
Warms my heart to see a South African boat built to this quality. Dudley Dix, we miss you old man.
I talked to that guy like a couple of months ago on the phone. Has he died? That's very sad. Bolger, Ian Oughtred, now this guy.
@@user-th3ll8rl7i Apologies for the misunderstanding. I meant we miss him as a South African. Plenty of our talent have left our shores.
Love it...grew up on the water in New England- commercial fishing boats in the family- but for the past few years been getting a hankering to get back into boating. Never did anything like this before- Intriguing. I will start on dinghy sail boating, and if this takes 3+ years. I can plan on 5, since I take longer than the average to build anything. My Ducati Super Sport 900 took me 2.5 years to build, and that I am very familiar with (motorcycle) so for me, I am figuring, while I learn the dinghy life, I can see what I might want down the road. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great boat. I loved the coffee table
fabulous. thanks for another wonderful video. :) It was inspiring to hear Brian speak so positively about everything to do with his boat.
English Blokes lending a hand reconnecting with their maritime heritage seems right. It is a beautiful sturdy boat. Building what you want new seems the way to go.
Thank you. Beautiful little boat.
Another delightful video and another fabulous boat and builder! Thanks!
One of the best explanations of the pleasure of amateur boat building. Great job as well... Cheers !
Total life's blessing to build, own, sail, and love the boat your in.... She's a beauty mate. Cheers.
Beautiful boat, excellent job, so positive thinking, nice conversation, calming voice, as he said, sleeping like baby.
Never been on wee boat, but I love this. So down to earth and common, and I guess loads of family fun. Would love to experience. PS, in view of your comments, Chrysallis, comes to mind. Nice name
Really enjoyed that. Thanks for posting.
Nice achievement! Beautiful job! First I ever saw that design. Been sailing 40 years.
This video was so enjoyable it made my evening. Talented builder and great boat and family. Kudos!
Great boat, great bloke.
Hi Brian. An absolute stunning boat. Can imagine your passion. And thank you so much for the inspiring words on the building proces. I'll start to build a Pocketship next spring and it's a first built as well. Thinking over the proces during the week en practicing it in the weekend is exactly my way!
What an Awesome Build!
Absolutely wonderful!!
Great boat! While old boats are amazing, it's nice to see some new designs and modern building methods.
High Quality Workmanship
"Go buy a house with a checklist of items and that makes your decision" .. ha ha, maybe 40 years ago. Now your decision is made for you by price low enough and not being out-bid by 10 other buyers. Awesome boat! Extremely impressive. Probably only a few people in the world can build their own sea-worthy boat, just as a weekend project. Outstanding!
First boat build? Impressive. Thank you for sharing!
Incredibly spacious, very nice.
Excellent and encouraging! I am currently building an 18-foot yawl (Francois Vivier’s design “Jewell”) and recognize so many things about what a first-time boat builder experiences. You tell your story brilliantly and I hope to have the same degree of satisfaction once I am sailing the coastal waters in the country where I settled. Thank you.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiencesI learned so much, great workmanship and attention to detail, an inspiration to anyone who wants to build their own boat.
That boat looks very nice, it seems to give an enjoyable sail and enough accomodations for a weekender boat camping family. I like the video format of this channel. Great work.
You and your boat is fantastic. I have built the little dinghy by myself and I know well the feelings. Good luck!
aahhhh....sunday morning...another my classic boat pops up....yay!!!
Amazing boat, just the perfect size. Love it😉
Love it, Great interview
Really cool story for a beautiful sailboat excellent work and I’m so intrigued and inspired thanks from the Pacific Northwest 🇺🇸
Thoroughly enjoyable and what a gorgeous sleek boat. I'd be tempted to built one but space limits me to a Pocketship. Very well done
what a good woman will manage to put up with.. Clearly a proud man looking back on his project .
Good morning West Coast
Bless :) His sweetie is "drop dead gorgeous" and his wife "quite likes racing".
Very nice. Well done!!!

Nice boat sir
nice !time well spent
What a nice man. So life-affirming
Very inspiring!
Great job !
Love the doggy intro!
What a lovely guy ! All the emotions of the build so beautifully expressed.
Super beautiful boat
Good job, may she look after you and yours.
Comes in 19, 21 and 25 foot versions.
The 19 footer is also available in GRP as the Cape Cutter 19.
Thank you. I needed this vid
Nice job !
She is category C rated I believe so good for up to force 6 and waves to 2 metres (6 ft). I have sailed in both and she is quite happy 😊 . So good for coastal sailing, not just lakes. Certainly not blue water though!
Issue with those is there's huge difference between waves and wind. Most C category boats can handle much stronger winds, its the waves that's the issue, and that will depend on exact place you're using it at.
Nice boat, guy, and video thanx
Stunning boat.
Nice boat ! I will be like you as soon as possible .
she's beautiful!
Lovely boat!
My wife is beginning to curse that doggie with all the My Classic Boat videos I've been binging! Takes her unawares each onset. Good onya!
yet another great vid. interesting that she's a plywood construction.
TheNachotime
Lapstrake ply on stringers coated in epoxy. Fairly standard DIY practice these days.
Dudley Dix would. rank among the best designers in the world for amateur construction at the moment.
Dutch Waarschip is all multiplex too. Great designs, different types. Also modern ones. A light displacement weekend sailer, for instance, relatively deep and heavy keel, so pretty fast. In multiplex and epoxy.
We done. "Wooden have it any other way". Gotta love wooden boats. Fair winds!
Gran y estupendo trabajo,saludos.
Excellent!
very pretty boat
Lovely little boat.
Just beautiful
Interesting family of boats.
There is a 19 ft version called the Cape Cutter 19 made in GRP. Dudley Dix can sell you plans for a plywood Cape Cutter 19 and has just required the right to supply plywood Cape Cutter 19 kits.
The manufacturer of the GRP Cape Cutter 19 has acquired the right to manufacture a GRP Cape Henry 21.
The ply CH21 can also be built with bilge keels and Dudley Dix has plans to introduce a bilge keel option for the ply CC19.
There are even 25 ft and 30 ft+ versions of this boat.
I finally subb'd, great little stories and a look at some pretty great boats.
lovely and smart she be.
Looks like about the perfect boat. A 21 footer is about as big as a man can sail solo, and yet big enough to handle some really heavy seas. Always wanted to build one but doubt if I have enough years left to pull it off.
Beautiful
reminds me of my old Cal26 ~
Cool!
