    Of all the legend's of the sport, and I'm talking about men who have won at least 6 majors, Pete Sampras had the greatest serve. It was absolutely awesome. He is what I would describe as the best game point against player I have seen. Overall top 4 best mens players I have seen since 1978.

    • @michelez715

      I can add to that Andrew, as I started watching tennis in 1968, tail end of Laver's career, and I still watch tennis today. Laver and Sampras remain the 2 greatest players I've seen. Both absolutely dominant in their eras, when there were some exceptional players around.

    Pistol Pete aka King of Swing: at his peak, he was devastating on both the first and second serves. Sampras was an all-court player and he challenged the best baseliners many times and was rock solid.
    Sampras serve was arguably his best weapon (perhaps second only to his attacking style of play), Sampras had such a fluid and relaxed motion that allowed him to hit such a heavy ball with huge amounts of spin which made it both difficult to read and even harder to return with any purchase on it. It was also so good in the clutch moments.

    Amazing Fed has 28 masters, Rafa has 36 masters & Nole has record 37 masters but Sampras despite dominant in the 90's had only 11 ( less than even Andy Murray). That is unreal.
    But the 14 grand slam benchmark he sets was not enough considering Borg could have more than him if he not retired early or Rod laver could have 20 major if he did not have played in pro slams.

    • @Summon256
      @Summon256 Год назад +1

      It is even more mind boggling when you consider that people like Lendl, Connors and McEnroe also have won more of these elite tournaments than him in general, back when they were "super 9" series or "grand prix championships series", which are equivalent of the "masters" series, that kickstarted the 90's decade! How many S9/GPSS tournament those 3 aforementioned legends have won as there is no definitive consensus as status of each of those tournament weren't as clear back in the day as when masters were introduced, but it is clearly within 15-25 title range, which is more than Sampras won!...

    • @Summon256
      @Summon256 Год назад +1

      If you notice the pattern - there is no masters titles won by Pete in 1996 and 1998! Which is mind boggling too, since he was in his grand slam winning shape (even though he didn't dominate those seasons like others!)...

    • @rajusaha855
      @rajusaha855 Год назад +2

      @@Summon256 yeah well said. According to their stats wiki page- Lendl had 22 masters but in 'grand prix super series ' wiki page says that Lendl had 29 titles, McEnroe had 19 or 26 titles (depending on source), Connors had 17 or 23 titles (depending on source), Borg had 15 titles & Becker had 13 titles. So they all have more than Sampras.

    • @rajusaha855
      @rajusaha855 Год назад

      @@Summon256 well USA biased media in 90's overhyped Sampras's grand slam quest too much. Frankly nobody before him was interested in bogus Roy Emerson 12 slams tally. If Laver, Rosewall, Pancho Gonzales didn't turned pro then each of them could have won more than 14 slams. Tilden could won more than 14 slams if transportation was easier back in his days, Borg might have won most slams if he didn't retired at the age of 25. So I didn't surprise that big 3 surpassed his mark easily.

    • @Summon256
      @Summon256 Год назад +2

      @@rajusaha855 Yup! Haha Agassi has won 17 as well! This borderline embarassing for someone like Sampras! LOL I dunno what was that about masters, that completely turned him off, but he was definitely playing more lazy and uninterested there, than at both grand slams and ATP finals, where most of the time he was giving his all!...

      Bad joke, one of all time great serve & volley player, he would kick Rafa ass there, and it would be very close matches against Roger and in form Đoković. Remember, in 90's ball didn't bounce nearly as high on grass like from let say 2008 onward. Just imagine how difficult would be for Novak and Rafa to pick up that low balls...

      Are you on drugs? On real Wimbledon grass, which was fast and low-bouncing, he would destroy Novak and Fed. Novak would have no time defend and slide, like he's able to do on the slow-as-molasses grass that's there now.

    • @CommanderGinyu
      @CommanderGinyu 4 года назад

      Pomerlain89 didn’t baby fed beat him on „real grass“? Also Novak would give him a hard time no matter on which grass they played. He’s one of the best returners and counterstrikers in the game, Sampras sv-game would play right into his hands and Pete can’t keep up from the baseline with either because his groundstrokes suck huge balls especially on the backhand which was the main reason he was so unsuccessful on clay
