      @sues3218 Год назад +11

What? A pastor for 40 years and NEVER read the entire bible. WOW! I wonder how many more are like him? How can a pastor be able to refute those who contradict scripture if they themselves have never read it all? The problem we have in many churches in this nation, is that many are not qualified to hold that position of sheperd-teacher. The bible does give the qualifications, and if someone does not have them, they should never be put in a leadership position over God's beloved sheep. I am glad he is finally doing it, but does he understand that he should have never been a pastor to begin with? God's people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. I hope he realizes that he was in disobedience to God all those years, and he truly repents. He could still speak to current pastors who are doing the same thing and rebuke them.

@@sues3218 completely disagree with you, respectfully. I’m not trying to be contentious with you Sue but simply remind you that we ALL fall short of the glory of God. Do you honestly think that every pastor has read through the whole Bible and even if they did, they’re good to go because of that?? Rebuke or celebrate?? Remember the prodigal son vs the son who stayed home and was obedient?? Who was angry and ended up committing the greater sin…. Could it be you.

Reading God's Word is spiritual food. Read every day. Stop when you're full. Start from the first book of Genesis, till you reach Revelation. No hurry, no time limit. Some days you've only had a sentence or two, other days you've devoured a few chapters! Ask the lord to fill you with hunger for His word and with His understanding. After you've finish reading the entire Bible, start over! Just like our physical bodies, our spiritual bodies need daily bread! Your faith will increase and you will experience perfect peace!

Absolutely a game changer! I would tell my husband I don't understand the Bible. I need it in chronological order and then I need it explained. The Bible Recap is an answer to my prayer that I really didn't even pray! God knows my heart and He knows what I need and He met me where I was!! Thank you Tara Leigh God is truly working through you to help so many people like me!! I still have several days left and it's taken me well over a year to go through the entire Bible but don't be discouraged if you fall behind. Tara-Leigh will even tell you it's OK. You're right where God intended for you to be.

I grew up around Seattle, with ZERO church background. I got saved in 1980 at age 24. I had been raised on books (but no Bible), so I had always been an avid reader....but when I began reading the Bible, it was like nothing I had ever experienced....it is quite literally the Sword of the Spirit. No other 'book' reaches into the soul of a person and destroys them, rejuvenates them, convicts them of guilt and convinces them of forgiveness all at the same time. It is God breathed, and He breaths it into us. He reveals Himself in His Word. Seeing God is not always comfortable when His Word contradicts our pathetic, fallen human notions of who and what God 'should be'. BUT...surrendering to the truth of who God is, results in a freedom that is astounding, a faith that will not be shaken, a peace that passes all understanding, and a love for Him that is breathtaking. What an amazing mystery! In 2.5 years, I'll be 70, and in the 43 years since Jesus saved me, the Bible has never lost it's power both both break me and make me. Time is so very short now...Jesus will Harpazo His people home literally any day, and I am longing for it! But until then....my Bible is my most treasured physical posession, and I'm clinging to it and my Father like a dog with a bone. OK, I'm stepping down from the pulpit now...

This is what I am teaching at the moment. I meet so many Christian’s who read books about the bible yet never read the bible. When I ask them how they know the books are correct they say , ‘well the books mention Jesus and God’, to which I reply, ‘but how do you really know they are correct’, and this is when they can’t answer. The old devil will do everything to stop us read ‘God’s word’ because it is what it is - God’s word! It’s how He speaks to us. Thanks for this Kirk - from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

There was a guy in the church that I used to attend and whenever he would be brought to tears of joy or lift his hands in praise, I would think, “man I wish I had what he had!” It took me longer than I care to admit that I do have what he has…the Holy Spirit in my heart and a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

She's right on point. For the last few weeks I've been going through the Gospel of Matthew basically a verse at a time. I'm finishing up chapter 7 at the moment, but that's not what I want to talk about. Kirk you have someone in your life that your praying for. I think that's great, but healing isn't always the point. I recently hurt my back and my neighbor upstairs had recently asked her to pray that the payment for 3 different credit card accounts would make it on time. She overnighted them in plenty of time, but they just didn't seem to be getting there. We prayed and she found out they arrived. Little by little I've been sharing with her, and now that I hurt my back she's more open to talk to me about Jesus. I know some people who would say, "God should heal you." Why? I'm just a clump of dirt that He loved enough to die for, and if He went through all that pain so I could know Him, I can go through this pain so my neighbor can also know Him.

What a real encouragement. Thank you Kirk, and your team, for bringing Tara on and allowing her to walk through the Scriptures in a way many of us miss, myself included. I don't know how many times I have heard or uttered the words "it's about relationship with God", know that that is true, yet still read the Scriptures like a to do list. God has been working on me over this last year while I have been in the deepest valley in my life. He is so gracious in giving me a deeper understanding of Him and the world I live in. Today's message is another gift from Him through Tara and Kirk, as an important reminder that God is calling us to come along side Him, in order to gain an accurate and Godly perspective that we lack on our own.

Wow - she was me! I grew up in a Christian family, liked God less after reading the Bible (but still a follower). Came away from Bible reading feeling like a failure, which made me hesitant to keep up with it. Felt like a daily scolding.
I just started the recap a few days ago. I like this new frame of mind - what does this passage tell me about God? It makes sense. If it were all about rule-following, he could’ve given us the 10 commandments and been done with it. Plus, he knows we are “but dust”, badly in need of mercy and grace.
Change is hard, and this all sounds too good to be true (like grace!) but I’m giving it a go. 👍😄

And each of us will have our own ah-ha monent where the truth moves from our head to our heart; real relationship; knowing him and his love beyond "facts" or "truths". One help in this for me was keeping a thankfulness journal. Another was attending a spiritual retreat where the activities and people were to represent God's love to me so that I could actually "feel" it!

I am using The Bible Recap this year to guide me through the Bible during my devotional time. Reading the Bible chronologically has helped me to understand its content more fully than I have ever experienced before. I have tried reading the M’Cheyne devotional reading plan, where you’re reading four different books of the Bible each day. While I was still enriched through that experience, reading it chronologically, helps me to understand how God is working through one storyline at a time. I feel I’m able to delve deeper into God‘s word this way. The podcast that you provide, that gives an overview of that days reading, has been extremely helpful. Thank you so much Tara-Leigh Cobble for devising this daily devotional opportunity.

I’m reading The Bible with Tara Leigh and using her Bible recap with each day’s reading. Tara Leigh’s recap makes the scripture that I read each day understandable and she helps to connect all the dots. For the first time in my life I hunger for God’s word. I highly recommend this tool to help anyone who seeks to know God, because He is where the joy is.

I always wonder about Jesus simply saying "Follow Me", and then the apostles one by one would drop everything and followed him. I found this amazing article and I was balling my eyes out, because it gave me a whole new appreciation for His love for us. 😥😇😥💕
It's called: "MAY YOU BE COVERED WITH THE DUST OF YOUR RABBI"
In the New Testament a Rabbi would call a new disciple by saying, “Follow Me,” it meant from that time forward their life would change drastically as they would be dead to their old life and alive to their new life. They would literally leave everything they knew and begin to follow their new teacher.
~If you were called to follow a Rabbi, you would be taking their set of rules and their teaching upon you, with the idea that one day you would perpetuate their ideas to future generations. A Rabbi’s set of teachings in that day was called their “yoke.” This is what Jesus was talking about when he said, “Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for … For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). The Rabbis of Jesus’ day put a heavy yoke loaded with burdens on men and did not help to lift them.
~Around the age of 14 or 15 years old, the young men would finish their schooling and the Rabbis would go to these schools and question these young men. They would then choose the best of the best to be their disciples and would call them using the same phrase that Jesus used, “Follow Me.” The Rabbi wanted to find out if you had what it takes to spread his yoke. The new disciple would then leave his hometown and everything he knew, and would follow him everywhere, giving his life to be exactly like his Rabbi. The student would follow the Rabbi and literally imitate him in every way, especially his teaching and mannerisms.
~As one would leave and begin to follow, others would say to him, “May you be covered with the dust of your Rabbi.” The students followed him so closely that the dust from the road that came from the feet of the Rabbi would cover the disciple. That should be the desire of every disciple of Christ, to walk so close to him that we would be covered with his dust.
~If a young man was rejected by the Rabbi, he would say to him, “Go home, have children, and pray that they may become a Rabbi. Go home and ply your trade (go home and learn the family business).”
~Matthew 4:18-22 describes Jesus calling four of his disciples to follow him, “And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
~(Why were these men fisherman, because they were not chosen to be a potential Rabbi; they were plying their trade.) And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
~Jesus calling these young men was just the same as saying, “I believe you can be like me and I believe you have potential, you have what it takes. I believe God can use you.” This was one of the greatest privileges in their culture.
~Imagine you were on the shore when this scene unfolds. Jesus walks by and calls James and John, the sons of Zebedee, they drop everything and immediately begin to follow Jesus. I would have thought that their father would have said, “… you kids now a days, running off, leaving me with all this work, where do you think you’re going.” Nothing like that was spoken. I imagine that Zebedee ran home and said something like this, “The boys aren’t with me mom, a Rabbi, Jesus of Nazareth, came along and called our boys, and he thinks that they have what it takes to be a Rabbi someday.” Maybe the next morning, he sees the usual men preparing for the day’s work that is ahead of them and he can’t wait to brag on his sons. I assure you that this became the talk of the town, Zebedee’s family stock soared that day, and this is what every father dreamed of for his son.
~I often wondered why Peter would get out of a perfectly good boat in the middle of a storm. His Teacher was not in the boat and he wanted to be just like him, so he stepped out and walked on the water. Peter would rather be surrounded by the waves and be with Jesus than to be in a safe boat without him. Peter wanted to be covered with the dust of his Rabbi, to follow Him. What Jesus did, Peter wanted to do, where Jesus was, Peter wanted to be.
May you be covered with the dust of your Rabbi!
~I was just thinking about how Jesus washed His dust off of the feet of his disciples. They were dirty, because they followed so closely behind Him. It was now time for them to step up, and have the world follow what they have to say about Jesus! Yet Judas was covered in that same dust, but he decided to betray him like billions of so-called Christians today that do not obey Jesus, but are still choosing to obey their flesh!

I was in church for 50 years and I never read my Bible and then 5.5 years ago I almost killed myself, and then Lord reminded me that it only takes 1 Day to Listen to the dramatized New Testament Bible. Ever since then I've been reading/listening to my Bible cover to cover every single month.. While I drive, walk, work, clean, bathe... So who needs TV or social media when we've got The Word of God that sets us free. I suddenly had a radical conversion and surrendered my ENTIRE life to Christ...after I read 1st JOHN 3:9-10, it Absolutely scared me too the core and I stopped making excuses for my sin. I was kidnapped for sex trafficking the very day that I ran away from home after my mom had murdered my twin baby sisters she said she was going to murder me. After God saved my soul that day, Now I truly love God with all my heart, all my mind, all my sou, andl all my strength. He healed my Mind Body Soul and Spirit.. Ever since then I've never experienced anger, fear, unforgiveness, guilt, shame, rejection, bitter, lustful thoughts, loneliness, worry/stress, lying, gossip, etc 🎉 I can't believe that I used to think I was Born Again, not even close, but more like a Foolish Virgin. When I go out and evangelist I just ask people to Push Play and let the TRUTH set you free!!! The area I live in is filled with so many lukewarm Christians it's heartbreaking, but Jesus said it would be this way in the last days.

Does your group do the weekly discussion guide for the Bible Recap? I’m considering that one for a group but want to look into some reviews before committing. We are currently doing the Bible Study Together-Chronological Cross Reference Bible reading plan, and really like it. But I think the group discussion questions would be nice!
