Some photographers keep all the secrets for themselves. Miguel is SHARING all his knowledge and the secrets that can help anyone become a better photographer. Thx Miguel!
The industry has been like that for so long, and I'm hoping to be the change I want to see! So happy it's resonating with you 😁✌️📸
@@MiguelQuilesJr I first saw you in person teaching at the Shutterfest 2018 and then this week at the Sony BeAlpha event in Manhattan, you are a true professional and a super nice guy. Keep up the good work, you are doing a fantastic job!
Perfect. I never stopped to think about making the catchlights. Now I have all sorts of reflector and box experiments to run. Thanks!
OMG I did a photo shoot of my daughter using outdoor natural light and the catch light in her eyes was super amazing similar to yours.
Top drawer tips yet again Miguel. Thanks for sharing.
Another great idea from the mastah! Thanks for helping us be better photogs!
Very helpful and informative. Thank you for your videos!
Such an amazing video! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Miguel for another great tip for portraits, sparkle in the eye always looks good
This is a great tip man definitely going to start applying this in future shoots!!
Yeah this is huge. I caught this tip from watching Game of Thrones. I think in literally all scenes, the subject's eyes had catchlights... And once you see it, you'll never stop seeing it.
Man you are fuuuuuny! Thanks for sharing so much knowledge in such short time! Bravíssimo
Thank you so inspiring video :) I'm so curious to try it by myself 👁️📸
Great job brother. I am so glad I stopped on this video very good teaching it worth a million. I love you too
Great advice. Thank you.

you make learning enjoyable. thanks
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it 😀
Bro, you are creative, talented and hilarious. Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words! 😁🙏
Thanks man
Thanks for the tip
Damn glossy as catch lights!!!
Side note: I gotta get the hell outta jersey in the near future. I saw that snow and instantly caught coronapenumonia
Use reflectors and other light sources too, windows, door ways or gaps with light...endless possibilities
Miguel you're awesome. Could you please do a RVE software. The Sony remote camera is out. Thanks
Thank you sir
Thank you
Love this and your mean voice!
Thank you! 😁❤️
Another excellent, informative video, but please, what's the name of the backing track! Sick tune :)
Thank you 🙏 🥰❤️
Well Miguel , eyes are the gate to the soul. So to your question I try direct people to certain feelings as you taught me in another video
Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Nice tips. Subribed!! You deserve more subcribers.
Thank you!
Great tip thanks, I prefer a catchlight that doesn’t obscure the pupils completely
Same - one way of ensuring this I've found is to make certain the room isn't too dark so the subject's eyes aren't dilated when the strobe pops. 👍
The size of the catchlight is not affected at all by the size of the pupil.
interesting.. 👍
I will have to try those tricks today when I shoot with my model outdoors...another trick I use is actually the head down and tilted with the eyes closed especially if I have the model in an evergreen tree (which I used in my last shoot) using both light and shadows on the face in different spots.
That sounds interesting! I'll have to try that out once it warms up outside 😀👌
@@MiguelQuilesJr I would love to share both the colour and black and white copy of the shot. I am on Instagram @mikebrayphotographylondon
@@MiguelQuilesJr unboxed them to you on Instagram would love your opinion
You’re one of the channels that I thumb up the video before I watch it
I appreciate the support, thank you! 🙏
Man you take amazing images! Awesome video
Thank you! Hopefully this info helps you make some too 😀📸
Miguel Quiles I know this is way off the subject I’m thinking about getting a Sony A7III.. coming from canon.... my question is does the Sony lens have to be micro adjusted like some of the Canon lens and bodies? Thanks
I've never had to micro adjust any of my Sony Lenses to any of my Sony camera bodies. I did however do that with 3 of my Canon lenses back when I shot DSLR and it was a major pain in the butt!
Miguel Quiles Hell yeah it’s a pain! Time for a change... thanks again for the info keep up the awesome photos and videos thanks bro...
Catch lights can make all the difference. I sometimes set up low-powered but focused light sources (like naked bulbs or flashlights) to add interesting specularity into the subject's eyes. The smaller light is overpowered by the strobe but still reflects from the eyes.
Wanna know my super secret though? Using a marble is a great way of playing with creating catch lights before your subject gets there - saves time and fussing about when you're on the clock!
What lens are you using?
Love your work Miguel and really good video with very interesting points. But please tell me where do you find your dope music man. Cmon put me on. 😂 take care
Thanks! I use music mainly from Artlist and Epidemic Sounds 👍🏻
Miguel Quiles oh nice. Guess I’m gonna have to slide my way in there. Thx partna!! Keep up the excellent work.
Lmao... 😂 great vid! Very informative and entertaining... soon youll be drinkIng coffee and keeping people watching 👍 Ha Ha 😂 get it maaaaaaaan!
Not sure about that definition...I think the catch light IS the reflection of the light source, it is not the light source itself. Yes or no?
We had a good conversation about this today at Unique Photo. What was the other guy's name? Marco?
Anyway, this video kinda kicked it off in my head. I'm always looking at catch lights but I'm not sure I realized how dramatic an impact it has. Thanks for that. I'll be thinking about it more often.
It was great meeting you! 😀✌️
Good tip! Thank you. Also you make that voice you sound like the moose from Frozen! LOL 🤣. Love you content. You’re a big help.
'This message will self-destruct in..' 🤣
😂✌️
she is so beautiful , you dont need a scroll stopping to look at her ,,, great content by the way
Thank you! 😁✌️
Great info and education! I can't believe the one person who disliked this vid! I guess everyone has a hatter out there..lol
Thank you! And yes, I have a small squad of about 5 haters right now who dislike my videos, sometimes seconds after posting. It's all good though, if I help even one person I'm a happy man! 😁👍🏻
...trolls. Haters will hate no matter what. I bet they're big time loosers in real life as they are online.
Quick question... I noticed that when you swapped places at 3:54 her pupils were very small... Does pupil size matter in portrait photography? Or is it just whatever compliments a photo the best?
It does. A smaller pupil means more of your subjects colorful iris is visible. Keep it lit.
@@DaMDryer Ah I see. Thank you!
How to remove the photographer from the catchlight?
Miguel- What do you think about the catchlights from a ring light??
I'm not a huge fan, but if there are some other unique elements in the image it can be cool ✌️
..but can't a catch-light go wrong like in the case of several light sources ofshapes or configuration that draw attention to the eyes in a "freakish, cannot look away" kind an of way that distracts from the overall subject rather than an simple, elegant catch-light that enhances the subject in a more natural, pleasing way?
Nice video👍🏻,I noticed that most people stop scrolling when there is a photo of a girl in bikinis and I bet is not for the catch light technique
Half-naked girls or baby animals. That's what the internet is about.
Appreciate the technique. Easier than using reflectors and less to carry during the shoot. Thanks.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it 😀📸
Forgot to mention that modeling lights are what contract the pupils for great eye color if you’re using flash.
Very true! I may cover that as a special topic in a video. 👍🏻
Dragon Ball Z tee-shirt? Miquel, there are so many really good anime out there. DBZ is so LCD. (Lowest Common Denominator) Check out Crunchyroll, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix and watch some better anime, and listen to it in the original Japanese with Eng subtitles. This season Demon Slayer is good and there are several others but that would be a good start. Sword Art Online, Attack of the Titans, from past seasons are very popular. Check out the movie 'Your Name', although the manga is better.
it's probably easy to add it in Photoshop:)
4:15 Thank god the dangerous looking alien didn't see you!
Miguel is very informitive with a great attitude, but he can be goofy at times when he tries to be funny lol
I'll own that haha
`hey miguel i hope u didnt take this comment the wrong way, its always great and right to be you!!! keep up the amazing work!!!!!!!!!!!!
the trick is to have a model like yours + some techniques
Yup, that about sums it up 🤦♂️
🤤🤤🤤👌🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Lol, it’s funny, “scroll stopping”. It’s as if social media is giving us ADD. Too many photos
That's exactly my point! :) It really is giving us ADD and I think all of the big tech companies (Facebook, Google, etc) is banking on it. Way too much content in general that excites us and bores us in the blink of an eye.
One trick I like to use is to get in front of the camera myself.... always stops everyone on their tracks o_O lmao
That is definitely an ice breaker! haha I've been known to jump into the frame once or twice to show these models how its done 😂✌
Best way to make a scroll-stopping portrait is by shooting beautiful women
