- If you are manually installing your printer drivers on Windows and cannot find the USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB), then consider using this work around to manually specify the port through which your printer is connected to your computer.

useless. if you have already the printer installed, you don't need to do this. Basically, you are creating a local port by connecting by the network to the existing one. If your system is not recognizing the printer, this trick will never work.

NO !!! It is not useless!!! Do exactly what he is saying and you'll end-up with a USB001 (Virtual Printer port for USB) :)
Consider the following (very specific) case which can be solved ONLY by following the steps in the video. NOTHING ELSE WILL WORK!
You have a LAN, partly wired and partly wireless. The printer is USB connected to the wired part of the network (directly on the main Router). Now ask Windows to correctly identify (and install) the printer driver, from any of the wireless connected PCs :) It will never work, unless you first CREATE the virtual USB Port on the PC where you want to install the remote priter.
Another way of creating the Virtual USB001 Port (which you will use to connect the printer) is by MANUALY connecting the printer to the PC using an USB Cable. Run thru the entire installation process. Then, WITHOUT switching off the PC, remove the printer and reconnect it to the LAN Router (using the USB port on the router). Go back to your PC and do a network scan for printers. If you are lucky it will find the printer. If not just asign the previveously created "USB001 Virtual Printer Port" to the Printer driver on you PC :)
It says for me The network name cannot be found after entering pc and printer name.

The biggest issue people will have is that the USB001 port won't exist, and they'll have to create and configure this. Otherwise, what you are showing is basically how to connect a printer to an existing printer port, which is of little help. In your case, the USB001 port already existed so you're not really "adding" it.

I have the same printer hp laserjet 1018 and I had similar problems, because Windows10 doesn't recognize as printer, but as other device. It seems that the port USB001 only shows up if the printer is already plugged and connected. Make sure there isn't a problem with the usb cable.
Plain and simple it doesn't work this way for a new printer. It only appeared to work and the printer name was available only because the printer in question is already installed. Also, LPT1: is a very old style parallel port for legacy equipment which only works in rare situations. I appreciate your manner of presentation.
I need to add a universal virtual printer driver to a windows 10 machine that has a hp p235 on the connects via rdp to an old server 2000 to do printer redirect... the server has a the xp and 2000 drivers on it.

An improvement to this video would be to have your pc reflect the state of the viewer's pc, so that it is possible to properly follow along with each step, instead of you having to explain that your pc already has been update (to ignore that fact). Confusing.
