no matter what your opinion on the webcomic, Homestuck's music team did do some sick musical flips at an olympic level and they landed all of them. Best webcomic soundtrack. Possibly the only webcomic with a soundtrack.
I'm just gonna copy paste this for this unfamiliar with Homestuck: While Homestuck is officially a webcomic, it's a bit hard to put it in just one category. Some pages had sound, some had animations, some were literally short animated films, and some were little videogames you played. It's... complicated, but you should definitely check it out. If you're going to check it out, though, there are some things you should consider: -It's very fucking long. Like, 10.000 pages long. -The begining is infamously slow, as the comic started as a way for the author (Andrew Hussie) to showcase his weird postmodern humor. It takes a while before the actual plot starts (but everything that happens in the first pages is canon, and it never stops being important). -The comic started as a collaborative intercative thingie. People would submit prompts (like, "Charater X: Take the towell") and if they weren't outrageous the auhor would make Character X take the towel (as a reference to old-school text adventure games). The comic is divided into "Acts", and this lasted until early Act 4, before Hussie got tired and realized the plot was to convoluted to be left on the fans' hands, so he closed the submision box. This is one of the reason the first Act has a very non-sensical sense of humor. -It has a shitton of references to Hussie's previous work, which you can find on the same website Homestuck is hosted in (www.mspaintadventures.com). However, it's not necessary to read these in order to understand the comic. You know, after writing all of this, it kinda sounds like reading Homestuck is not a very good idea. However, I would still recomend it: the plot is good, the characters are (mostly) good, the music is *awesome* (as this video shows) and by the end of it, you casn't do anything but be amazed at Hussie's ability to mantian such a complex plot. ...oh, what is it about? That's a bit hard to describe. It's a science-fantasy comic about some kids who play a videogame that can manipulate reality. However, things get out of hand fast, and before you realize you've got aliens, demons, monsters, a 50 character cast and time travel. You should definitely check it out, just... take it easy: www.mspaintadventures.com/ /rant
Fir413 Thanks for this explanation. I never knew anything about Homestuck except that it had a massive fandom and was probably a high quality work. I actually thought it was a video game until this haha...
Basically, Homestuck kind of feels like the beginning of a creepypasta if you're starting it now. You may have heard about breastfeeding juggalo expies of Rasputin. You may have heard that it somehow led to the existence of Undertale. You may have even been around on tumblr when Homestuck fans tried to convince everyone that it was an anime. And then you start reading it, and it's just some dumbass kid fucking around with videogame abstractions and the narrative is vaguely messing with you for daring to read it. But A does lead, eventually, to B. Shit gradually gets more and more complex and insane, and by the end of it all, you "get" Homestuck. And now YOU'RE trapped in the weird position of not quite being able to explain what in the fuck it is.
Actually it's exactly 8,130 pages not counting the epilogue. The other couple thousands come from the other comics such as problem sleuth which is close to 2000 I think
> Joren "Tensei" de Bruin: Create the most epic Homestuck theme song ever. > Be the other guy. > [S] RichaadEB: Make it even more awesome. Thank you so much. This is great.
It's definitely more powerful, gets you more pumped But I feel like it loses something in this composition. . . (In some cases more literally than others) Heir of Grief has some beautiful moments where the music sort of. . . well in one instance it calms (and this cover just basically completely axes the best part of that segment) and in other cases it has a somber undertone that the power of the guitar just fails to match. It's too strong, too energetic.
@@Billyblue98 i feel like while it loses something,it also brings something new. The somberness and melancholy of the original is replaced with a feeling of hatred and despair.
I am actually gonna cry this is by far my favorite song from Homestuck. Though I know nothing of HS, this piece is beautifully performed and incredibly moving. Great job as always dude! Sidenote: Congrats on selling your physical album like hot cakes! Achievement unlocked! :D
Skylightwings If you ever become a homesyuck, here are just a few Warnings/Tips: It is long. 8000 pages long. It is M for Mature. You need flash on your computer. And the first Act has a kind of entirely different sense of humour and structure compared to the rest of the webcomic. You will want some music in the backround. Luckily, there are homestuck albums on bandicamp, and a radio by luminentaegis on youtube. Just make sure to pause it during pages with [S] in the title. The [S] stands for sound, and either means you are about to watch a cutscene, or play a flash game.
Even if you never touched it, the homestuck albums are up on bandcamp and are worth listening to. Very diverse but very good album collabs. Also if you care about Undertale this is where Toby Fox made a lot of his musical bones.
@@Danny-sr5qc i remember i started reading it a long long time ago, i think i got up to the part where the dude with a bunch of "WARNING: DO NOT CROSS" tape wrapped around him encountered a sniper or something; should i bother reading the rest? ( i probably read a bit more than this but i can't remember)
I was first getting into Homestuck when this was posted I have no earthy idea how I'm only seeing it now. I wish I would have seen it then but damn do I feel blessed to see it at all.
THANK YOU GOD for a live version of a bad ass song from a web comic NO ONE wants to cover. Bad ass man thank you so much! You did it complete justice! Awesome!
Literally so beautiful I began to cry and have fucking goosebumps as my entire time as a homestuck flashed before my eyes. You took one of the best songs in Homestuck, and managed to keep the raw emotional feel of finishing the fight, of the final game-winning blows to the big-bads... and raise it to a whole new level. I'm literally crying tears at the beauty, shaking as I type this, goosebumps all across my body. You, sir, are a magician with a guitar. A godtier of metal. And one amazing dude.
Axioanarchist that my dude, is known as a harmonic. It is caused (if I am speaking correctly, which I’m likely not) by lightly pressing the string in a different tab based on the string. Most guitarists have different places they are able to do it as well.
RichaadEB ah that makes sense. I know I have a weird sensitivity to high pitched noises so that's likely why its so unpleasant to me, but I was always curious what caused it and why almost every rock and metal guitarist I've ever heard did it at least once.
[S] Collide was the most beautiful moment of the entire webcomic. And Heir of Grief still hurts even after so long. and this version is perfect. and I'm crying. which was expected of course. Keep up the amazing work, man, you're making an entire fandom very happy and very nostalgic
*"WELL THIS HAS GONE FUCKING PEAR SHAPED..."* Richaad..again, I don't know how you do it, but You once again managed to turn in already Incredible song.. *..INTO A FUCKING MASTERPIECE!!!* XDD I mean Seriously dude, you managed to increase my absolute admiration for Heir of Grief in general!!! Which in it's self was pretty damn high!!! ..God, just keep up the Godtier level work, Dude!!!! X)
I have no words for how happy this video has made me. One of the only good things to come out of Homestuck's ending and by god you did it every lick of justice you could. So fresh, man.

Sidenote: Congrats on selling your physical album like hot cakes! Achievement unlocked! :D

If you ever become a homesyuck, here are just a few Warnings/Tips:
It is long.
Bryan Tylk cool! If I ever consider to start reading it and jump down the rabbit hole, I'll keep all of this in mind. Thanks man! 👍
Bryan Tylk literally the best tips
HELL YES
HELL
FUCKING
yes.
Found my current vote for this months tab
Heir of Grief is by far the most beautiful track in all of Homestuck's discography
Goddamn this is pretty good! Edit: do you plan on making more covers of stuff from Hamsteak?
H A M S T E A K
H O M E S T R U C K
this is a BOP and im cryin
The instant I read the title I screamed.
This cover sounds better than the original. And the original was fantastic.
THANK YOU GOD for a live version of a bad ass song from a web comic NO ONE wants to cover. Bad ass man thank you so much! You did it complete justice! Awesome!
Yes I have been waiting for this since black
Out of all of the things you could be doing covers of you choose Homestuck. I like. Think you can do a cover of Carne Vale in the future?
So freaking good, you are amazing
This is my favorite Homestuck track and I'm so happy you covered it oh my god. It sounds incredible!!
Why, cuz the song it’s based off of is based off of the theme of the character in your PfP?
This. Is beautiful. Thank you for making this great theme even better.
What is that squeaking/sliding noise in the opening? I know a lot of guitarists use it, even professional bands, but it's always made my skin crawl.
Axioanarchist that my dude, is known as a harmonic. It is caused (if I am speaking correctly, which I’m likely not) by lightly pressing the string in a different tab based on the string. Most guitarists have different places they are able to do it as well.
it's literally the noise of my fingers sliding against the strings being amplified. It's not really intentional but it is a neat effect.
RichaadEB ah that makes sense. I know I have a weird sensitivity to high pitched noises so that's likely why its so unpleasant to me, but I was always curious what caused it and why almost every rock and metal guitarist I've ever heard did it at least once.
Holy shit that was amazing! I always love hearing covers and interpretations of the songs.
When I saw that damn notification, I screamed like a fuckin' school girl.
[S] Collide was the most beautiful moment of the entire webcomic. And Heir of Grief still hurts even after so long. and this version is perfect. and I'm crying. which was expected of course.
Keep up the amazing work, man, you're making an entire fandom very happy and very nostalgic
I saw the thumbnail on my sidebar and just hung up a call after yelling "OH MY GAWD" to listen to this.
I just got back into Homestuck again and rediscovered that you'd covered this track - STILL a banger
AYYYY, I knew we couldn't stay away from more homestuck! ;)
*"WELL THIS HAS GONE FUCKING PEAR SHAPED..."*
Richaad..again, I don't know how you do it, but You once again managed to turn in already Incredible song.. X)
Oh my god this is awesome
I have no words for how happy this video has made me. One of the only good things to come out of Homestuck's ending and by god you did it every lick of justice you could. So fresh, man.
OH MY GOD
I'm sobbing, this is so good. Thank you.
