Mitsubishi Outlander Big Tyre Upgrade - How much Lift from Tyres Alone - Big Tyres with no rubbing

  • On many Mitsubishi Outlander owner groups and forums there is the constant question about tyres, wheels and suspension lift. Whilst there is very little you can do mechanically aside from a cheap strut top spacers (up to 40mm lift),very expensive subframe body lift spacers or expensive uprated springs (around 30-35mm lift) which may require some camber bolts. If like me your job takes you to far flung corners of Surrey and Sussex and you find your self bouncing along farm lanes, unclassified roads and driving through quarries you could always just consider putting on some big tyres. Not only will you get a bit of lift but a big sidewall is going to help to soak up those bumps so that your suspension and steering don't have to

Could you put 235/60/18 on the stock rims? What's the biggest you would go on the stock 18's do you think?

Is there anything you need to do if you want to swap them out? For example the TPMS sensors? My came with 16" rims and I want to get the original18" like the one you have.

This is a 2007 model, no TPMS for this model back then

I have done this with my mitubishi outlander 2007 4x4 mk2, but i have an issue whit the front wheel hub, i have a lot of positive camber , like 2 degrees. You don't notice that on your mitubishi ?
Also i have a lot of vibration when i put the 2 gear or when i go up hill

Hi friend. THanks for the video about the size of outlander tire. I am using in my v6 2009 roadcruza RA1100 235/60r18. I drive about 40.000 km with and the treads have now 7mm. The new tire have 13.5mm. I am thinking to go for thinner experience with firestone destination XT (atx in Brazil) size 215/80r16 using steel whell from pajero Tr4. This 215/80r16 is 1 cm bigger than your 245/70r16 looking in firestone catalog. Do you think this 1cm bigger will fit? thanks!

Hi! This looks great! What vehicle are the 16” rims from? Do you know the specs on them, such as the offset? Thanks!

      @AggyGoesOutdoors  2 года назад +1

The wheels are off a late 90s Toyota RAV4 , the only details I know is the PCD is the same as the mitsi, but the bore is slightly tighter so I use 10mm spacers to get over that issue 👍🏼

@@AggyGoesOutdoors thanks! I have a couple more questions: did you use hubcentric spacers?
Do you notice any vibration or anything at highway speeds?
With the 10mm spacers, do the lugs have enough threads left for the nut to engage correctly?
      Thanks!

@@letsgotospace1900 Howdy, Not using hubcentrics, just a cheapie set of universal multi PCD spacers. No vibration issues other than the odd time I've managed to knock a wheel weight off, as long as they're balanced they've been fine for me.
I like your last question, no ones ever asked me that so I give you 10 out of 10 for covering all the bases. So obviously I use a different set of wheel nuts for the steel wheels. The standard nuts for the alloys are a flat type. These steelies require a conical taper. I just went to a local breaker yard, found a Mitsi Shogun and took 5 wheel nuts off each wheel. So to the meat of the matter, it doesn't look like there's a lot threads left, it's definitely looks short but I've been using those steelies as winter wheels every year since 2009 with no issues at all, done over 100k since then, so say 50k on each set of wheels with no probs. 👍🏼

@@AggyGoesOutdoors thanks so much, that is very helpful! It’s great to hear you’ve been using it that way since 2009 with no problems.

@@letsgotospace1900 I'll be honest when I first put them on all those years ago, I was checking the nuts every other day the first few weeks to see if there was any slippage, I marked them with a Sharpie so I could check. That was a very very long time ago, and they've never slipped a bit.

Hello, I want to put 245/70 r16 on my 10' outlander. Like in the video. But the question is with rim offset, do you Think will everythink be okay with -30 offset (rim thickness is 7j)? Stock 225/55 r18 have like 40 offset or something like that.

    Hello

I kept th 18 inch wheels and put some 255 55 18 AT tyres on.

I'll check it out, I honestly wanted smaller wheels , to be honest I would have preferred 15s over 16s for some of the unclassified roads and farm tracks I have to drive down.

I couldn't say for sure because I don't have 22 inch wheels or an Outlander sport, I would recommend trying to to see if they fit. Good luck 🤞🏼👏🏼
