  • This is my friends 1964 John Deere 1010 Crawler working on trails we're cutting for a new hunting property. For a machine that's nearly 50 years old I think it still runs strong and works very well. These machines are perfect for what we're doing in this video, like cutting small trails without damaging the environment around you.

    My Dad had a 1010 with blade and hydraulic winch which he used to get pulp wood out with. He pushed out the landing, cut access road, dragged trees/logs, even pushed out a small pond with it. Very durable crawler, simple to operate and economical too. No, it's not a D9 Cat, but for it's size, it's a beast!

    Sandykoot, I agree.
    The 1010 line of tractors, crawlers, Gas and Diesel were awesome machines for their size. They had as much power as some larger tractors, and built heavy enough to not wear out under heavy usage. They don't make them like this anymore for certain.

    I was 10 years old in 1963...this was the 1st crawler that I operated...when you really "learn on a small machine" such as the 1010 the larger machines are nothing! Take an operator from a D-8 and put them on a 1010 and the work looks like the ocean waves!

      yep, its much harder to keep that grade level on such a small platform, they make you work for it :)

    Your right about what it comes in good for, like small fire breaks, trails, and minor land clearing. However if we did need a bigger one, the operator has access to a D6 Cat. That machine will take care of just about any tree you put in front of it :)

    If its in good working order then I would say yes. The one in this video was bought for around 6k a few years back, but keep in mind it was in very good condition.

      Journeyman Yes, very much so, crawlers like this are hard to come buy, especially one that's not in need of some serious attention.

    Pretty sweet little dozer I wanna do the same thing and get a small dozer for clearing trails and maybe even make a rake for it. Did you buy that sweet little machine or inherit it?

    My father just bought one of these to push some brush over on our acreage, does anyone know how much these things weigh? Want to figure out if it's too much to pull with my 1 ton

      SpliffSized Approximately 7500 Lbs, here's a link for the general specs on the tractor.

      I have hauled over 20,000 with my 3/4 ton super duty so that small dozer won't be any problem for a 1 ton

      My friend traded the crawler a couple years ago, the only reason he let it go was the undercarriage was getting a bit sloppy and required a lot of attention for the work he got out of it, but it did have a lot of hours on the old girl.

    Nice Tractor but you really need a ROPS (Rollover Protection)
    Your a good Operator, but the next guy running it could get in trouble real fast!
    If they roll over it is hard to get away from them.

    • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  9 лет назад

      Yes, I would agree rollover protection is a valuable addition to any piece of equipment like this. By today's standard this machine would never leave the factory without one, but in 63 they weren't so safety conscious.

    Nice machine, I found a 1010 for sale in ok shape. How expensive are these to up keep.

    • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  7 лет назад +2

      The Crawlers you can sink some money into if the track system or hydro-static transmission has issues " the one in the video has this set up" If its just the good old 1010 tractor,,, they are pretty tough,, I have a 63 1010, and use it for work around the place... I haven't spent much more than oil changes and fluids on it for years. They just keep going :) However keep in mind its a John Deere, and they think a lot of their parts. IT CAN get expensive depending on what needs fixin.

  • @Yellowdogsworld
    @Yellowdogsworld  11 лет назад

    Well, the crawler actually belongs to my good friend in the video, (the operator) he acquired it through a family member. Its an ideal machine for working in tight areas like trails, and woods where you want to keep as small a footprint as possible. As far as inheriting one, I have the brother to this guy, a 63 1010 Row Crop utility tractor, another great machine :)
