@@STETTRACE agree - one of the best American crowds for an Oasis gig. They actually moved to the sonic sound that Oasis delivered, compared to later tours where many up front fans were stood like fence posts.
I remember when they went to the states and Noel was like "why is every American band banging on about pain hurt and killing yourself. We just rocked up, plugged in got wasted and sung about rock an roll"...after they lost the drummer they were never the same. Tony's groove was epic
Wow, you can really notice the difference Bonehead made to the overall sound, holy shit. The Gem versions have him just kinda casually strumming the chords, while here you can see Bonehead relentlessly attacking the rhythm part which totally changes the dynamic of the song. Also, Tony is mega here and perfect, this is all just sooooo good lol
Fully agree. I saw them in Boston during the same tour (a few days before or after this show I guess),and while I saw Oasis again afterwards, that first tour was when they were at their peak. A big part of it was because they played like a band. And yes, Bonehead, Tony and Guigsy were all fantastic live - not just Liam and Noel.
I saw them play Columbia at the old Sleep Inn / Hotel Arena in Amsterdam in 1994. Amazing. In a small downstairs room with about 200 visitors. On some Oasis fan sites this performance is mistakenly placed at the Amsterdam Arena, with 45.000 spectators. Very funny because that new Ajax stadium was only ready in 1996...
The funny thing is that Columbia was a jam that the entire band wrote before Noel joined, and Noel contributed (or stole) some parts for the song and then took full credit for it when in reality the whole band should've been credited.
According to Tony McCarrol's book (which I've recently re-read and totally recommend to any Oasis fan!), the verse lyrics came from Liam, the chorus came from Chris Griffith's of Liverpool band The Real People, who's studio Oasis were using to record their first demo cassette. They owe a fuckin lot to that band. Noel ripped them off blind.
Apparently its because when Noel started writing/recording WTSMG, he was moving in a more somber and intricate direction with the tunes as opposed to the straight forward onslaught of the first album, and didn't think Tony had the chops to do what he wanted. Tbf Tony was the perfect drummer for Def Maybe, but in all reality wouldn't be able to drum the new songs Noel was writing. Since Noel was the only song writer and main creative force of the band at that point, it was his call. It sucks but it is what it is. Tony was a mega drummer for those early tunes and this video proves it!
When the songs were great. For me this was Oasis. I thought Definitely Maybe was a great album, I must be in the minority in thinking that Morning Glory was awful apart from the last two tunes.
Best version of Columbia out there.....
This crowd in Chicago in ‘94 never realized this was the best performance EVER!
oasisnole this crowd in Chicago never knew they were 2 foot away from what would be one of the best bands in the world
They knew
Absolutely

The simple driving bass and drums parts really allow the guitars to stand out.
This is the most mancunian/hacienda/northern music factory song by oasis..🙌
GREATNESS 💎💎💎💎
Superb tune
In my top 10 of all time
The best, pure power
Original Oasis Pure and simple without all the musical glitter and overproduction that came later
The Best!
Coolest band ever
0:37 bonehead wanting more volume
there we were now here we are
At 1:38 Noel looks as of he’s thinking: ”I’m the second coolest motherfucker on the planet”.

I love the bit at 2:54
This is how Columbia should sound.
Bone head. Not Jay Mahler. Not Gem.
Noel G - Not anyone else...
Absolutely bro, so insane🔥
And Tony McC on the drums.
I like Whitey and Chris but Tony is the Columbia drummer. The definitely maybe drummer too.
Awsome!Happy 2022!
Liam's voice is unbelievable
Superb
Tune 🔥
Storming song. Love seeing Bonehead keeping his left forefinger across all six strings e to e. Power chord zenith.
My man at the front with blonde hair glasses loving it 😂
Still oasis finest 5/6 mins this song.
This song = oasis
Take the simple and make it fucking EPIC
3 chords can start a revolution
Tre accordi leggendari....
Unbelievable
Well rehearsed by this time
Did we realize at the time that we were watching musical history in the making ??
Even if Noel had only just written this one song I would still consider him a rock god, in the Pantheon of Rock gods.
But he didn't....
He stole this song
@@stevens5541 who did he steal it from

Bonehead playing style - just looks right - amazing wash of sound
The force of the rhythm guitar is amazing 🤩 The sound is full and entirely fills out the melody. He gets everything from his instrument.
Liam looks like a librarian.
Im thinking more like a sex offender
BIBLICAL
when they reunite will they sound like this?
yes
No
BONEHEAD
Best line up ,but Alan White was good also
Fk all wrong with tonys drumming on here.
There was never anything wrong with his drumming, it was just a made up excuse because he didn't get on with Noel
@@M0jibake To be fair he could not have played songs like wonderwall or champagne supernova
So I have to give Noel that
@@casperoomen9111 yes true but for Definitely Maybe he was perfect.
