What a legendary basketball player and human being! Bill reminds us that there is so much more to life than our jobs and that kindness will always prevail. So many stories, he faced so much adversity and yet he is a still such a beacon of positivity. He doesn't get the love now but those that saw him know he was among the finest to ever play this game.
Bill is too humble when speaking about himself, he was a great center and if it wasn't for those injuries he would've been a top five of all time great center.
@@scottdavidson7001 You obviously didn't watch "Big Red" with the beard leading and taking a Portland franchise to the promised land. Gave a small market team their first Title and put them on the map. If not for bad feet I honestly feel Walton could have been the best center ever or definitely top 5 ever.
He is in the Hall as THE most dominant COLLEGE center of all time. Keep in mind the Hall is the BASKETBALL Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame. His NBA career got cut too short, or he'd be a TOP *3* center and probably #1 all time, but his actual NBA career he might not be a Top 10 Center there.
What a great piece. I’m 60 and I remember the greatness of Bill Walton as well as the trials and tribulations he suffered. What a beautiful person Bill was. I love that he learned and grew and gave props to everyone. Watch his HOF Speech. His talks about everyone but himself. Such a lover of people. A true lover of everyone.
In college, I had a professor who had the exact personality of Bill Walton. The dude went to Stanford from 68-72 and was involved in the music and activist scene in those days. Like Walton, hearing any story he had was amazing. I watch Walton interviews sometimes just to remember him. There is some special kind of spirit in dudes like that. They're rare and to be treasured!
Cant believe Bill is gone. He was the best of the best at anything he did. Bill never took any credit: deferring to coaches and teammates" class act. Man Im gonna miss Bill's golden heart.
Bumped into him once leaving a Bob Dylan Concert in downtown Oakland... I was STOKED... High school kid playing hoops in LA when he was at UCLA... He was my idol... What a character!!!
Sad day for sure when we heard the news of his passing… Or was it passing? He was quite the passer. Got to see him a lot when he played for the Blazers. I have a photograph of him that I took in 1974 when he came out of the Blazers locker room for the first time. I was in the building when they won the championship and 77. That was the most exciting year of my life from a sports standpoint for sure. Great memories!
If not for that injury four years into his NBA career, Bill would have been HOF gold. He averaged 18 pts and 13 rebounds. Dropped off considerably after the injury. Great player, great interview, great character. Max entertainment.
Being a Duck fan, I watched Bill throughout his time at UCLA and when He became a Blazer, I was stoked! Got to see him play against Kareem a few times in the Memorial Coliseum, here in Portland and still have his and Maurice Lucas' jerseys and wear them proudly! Although his body let him down, he's such a great ambassador for basketball and I just love listening to him when he's the color guy doing PAC12 games! I love that he's just Bill and lays it all out there, every game!!!
SERIOUS: We watched UCLA 3 times a day. Tape delay was cutting edge and we were in LA. Years of winning live and 2 replays 7 and 11 PM. Boonesfarm wine and 4 finger lids
Bill Walton got it right.... the nba changes based on what the current players are. at this generation there are no more good bigmen thats why it became a small mans game... no more MICHAEL JORDAN type of player so they made a script to have a so called the next MJ...
Wow, Walton is one knowledgeable guy in the sport of basketball, fantastic memory, able to recite, let he was reading from a teleprompter, you can tell he enjoys life, his enthusiasm, very positive person, it rubs off on you, au little bit, tells you all the little stories, you never heard or reported in the sport edition of newspaper or sports magazine, I like stuff like that, he tells it like it is without offending anyone.
I was on some hifi web group thing. People talking about speakers. Years ago. I think people were buying and selling their stuff too. All of a sudden I was dealing with Bill. The next day I had to think about whether it was real or not... Then about five years ago I hit the restaurant at the 4 Seasons here in San Francisco with a friend after a late movie, to get a late dinner, and there's Bill sitting with three other giant men. All retired, all looking amazing. We were hoping if we looked pathetic enough....
Stern, along with Magic and Bird, gave the NBA stability. Bird and Magic made the NBA a box office hit, while Stern made it possible that every franchise can be stable, viable and have infinite sponsors.
Before they came along the ratings were in the toilet. I remember in 1980 and the NBA finals game 6 between the 76ers and Lakers was shown on tape delay. Plus so many NBA players at the time were having major drug problems.
Dam Bill is such a Hippie! haha He places such a HIGH value to team play and team players. He has always been a bit of a critic to "ball hog" type players.
Love Bill Walton great player, allot of positive energy, but Larry Bird and Ervin Johnson saved a dying NBA, and the marketing of Michael Jordan by Nike made the NBA what it has become today.. Stern was just along for the ride or given the keys and told not to crash...
He is over the top when telling stories ALL THE TIME....little repetitive well a lot. Don't always agree with him....but id smoke up big time with him. Blaze away..........
3:17 When another Legend says the EXACT SAME THING that I say without me having to hear it from them first.. Internet comments... Ha!!! I should get paid for my commentary. News Flash... This applies to music too.
MVP FMVP 2x NBA Champion 6MOY 2x All Defensive First Team 2x All Star 2x NCAA Champion 2x Final Four Most Outstanding Player 3x College Player of the Year He went almost FIVE YEARS WITHOUT LOSING A GAME: His high school team started a winning streak when he was a junior, then went undefeated his senior year Freshmen were ineligible to play varsity when he went to UCLA, so he led the freshman team to an undefeated season UCLA then put together back-to-back 30-0 seasons As a senior, they won their first thirteen games before finally losing @ Notre Dame ****************** I don't know why he's not hall of famer just solely based on these accomplishments. I fucking love listening to Bill he has an amazing Spirit

JL you’re right about Bill. I’ll never forget his play against Tom Burleson and UNC. That’s went I became a Bill Walton fan.

He was a good Center but not a Hall of Fame Center.

Bill Walton so knowledgeable of the game and knows all generations of guys it’s incredible

Walton as a passer would be great today. Best passing big man ever.
maybe, but the joker today l think is better.
Larry Legend wasnt small lol
Now if we're talking strictly the Center position, Sabonis is up there, too...

Mr. Walton....a treasure of joy and excitement!
Bill Walton is just the fucking best
Bill is Awesome . RIP .Big Man .
RIP Bill Walton! 1 of my favorite players that I never got to see play. #18 all-time, w/o the injuries he could've been top 10

Walton is CLEARLY high. GOD I love him.
Bill is still high .. 3 years later
If not for that injury four years into his NBA career, Bill would have been HOF gold. He averaged 18 pts and 13 rebounds. Dropped off considerably after the injury. Great player, great interview, great character. Max entertainment.

He's one of the most intellectual people that I've had the opportunity to follow through out the course of my life, who happens to play basketball.
bill freaking walton! what a great guy could listen to him for a long time
What a ball of enthusiasm and joy! You've gotta love Bill Walton. RIP Bill, you won't be forgotten.
5/30/24, 8:54 p.m.
Always enjoy listening to this man speak.
SERIOUS: We watched UCLA 3 times a day. Tape delay was cutting edge and we were in LA. Years of winning live and 2 replays 7 and 11 PM. Boonesfarm wine and 4 finger lids
Bill Walton is an Awesome Storyteller Just Like a Film Director For a Former NBA Player Before My Time!
Bill Walton got it right.... the nba changes based on what the current players are. at this generation there are no more good bigmen thats why it became a small mans game... no more MICHAEL JORDAN type of player so they made a script to have a so called the next MJ...
Been the same person since his college days at UCLA.
Despite the injuries, Bill has lived a wonderful life.
He really could have turned into a bitter angry old man. But, as you can see he exactly the opposite. I always like to hear him talk.
"Erick Piatkowski the greatest player in Western Civilization"....Thank you Bill
Piatkowski-the Polish Rifle
No Detlef Schrempf
What a great interview.

Walton throwing shade at LeBron putting Steph over him.
Bill makes the perfect Uncle. Straight lit up hahah
I thought l had about ten more years of listening to Bill Walton, so you can understand my suffering now.
6:02 How can Walton not mention Magic and Bird?
I just listened to to the Thea Gilmore version Bill was on point fantastic song .
I was on some hifi web group thing. People talking about speakers. Years ago. I think people were buying and selling their stuff too. All of a sudden I was dealing with Bill. Love Bill Walton. Nobody like him. I can listen to him all day. Good thing too, cause he can talk all day.
Bill Walton is One Hell of a Storyteller Like a Film Director in My Mind For a NBA Player!
Force of Nature--Bill Walton. I liked that he called himself, "Little Billy..." When was Walton ever "little?"
Thea Gilmore - I’ll Remember You, the perfect song to remember Bill by. RIP BW.
Talk about a guy full of life. Wow! Mr. Walton was really something.
I hope he does come back from the dead! Miss him already
Red Aurebach is the greatest influence on basketball, not Stern.
+dyskover Jerry West is also up there...
dyskover Naismith is lol
Stern, along with Magic and Bird, gave the NBA stability. Bird and Magic made the NBA a box office hit, while Stern made it possible that every franchise can be stable, viable and have infinite sponsors.
Red A. Is a god.
Magic and Bird saved the NBA, period.
Before they came along the ratings were in the toilet. I remember in 1980 and the NBA finals game 6 between the 76ers and Lakers was shown on tape delay. Plus so many NBA players at the time were having major drug problems.
They resurrected the dead.
He knows basketball. And all around best center ever, all around skills
That's Bill Walton speed power passing scoring at his best he was the best
Dam Bill is such a Hippie! haha
He places such a HIGH value to team play and team players.
He has always been a bit of a critic to "ball hog" type players.
Boy that Bill can talk
Happy smiling Bill!! 😂🍾😂
I'm team Wilt and Kareem. But the greatest center play in college I ever saw was Bill Walton versus Memphis State.
Anyone else get exhausted while listening to Walton talk? I don’t think he takes a breath!
I love bill
Love Bill Walton great player, allot of positive energy, but Larry Bird and Ervin Johnson saved a dying NBA, and the marketing of Michael Jordan by Nike made the NBA what it has become today.. Stern was just along for the ride or given the keys and told not to crash...
So cool 😊

Very Ric Flair like.
JABBAR!
He said he thought Barbosa was dead. lol
he didn't mean that literally,
Obviously...
Hes clearly done too much blotter.
I think Bill was not that great of a Center to get into the Hall of Famer.
MVP
FMVP
2x NBA Champion
6MOY
2x All Defensive First Team
2x All Star
2x NCAA Champion
2x Final Four Most Outstanding Player
3x College Player of the Year
He went almost FIVE YEARS WITHOUT LOSING A GAME:
His high school team started a winning streak when he was a junior, then went undefeated his senior year
Freshmen were ineligible to play varsity when he went to UCLA, so he led the freshman team to an undefeated season
UCLA then put together back-to-back 30-0 seasons
As a senior, they won their first thirteen games before finally losing @ Notre Dame

I don't know why he's not hall of famer just solely based on these accomplishments.
It's BASKETBALL hall of fame, not NBA Hall of fame.
