- mpgomatic.com puts a Milwaukee Tools M12 cordless polisher ( amzn.to/2aiXD87 ) to the test on three vehicles: a black Mazda3, a white Honda S2000, and a green Ford Explorer.
We used Turtle Wax polishing compound on the black and white cars to remove scratches and Mother's plastic polish on the Explorer's headlights for a quick touch up.
The Milwaukee Tools M12 cordless polisher/sander has two variable speed settings: low for polishing, high for sanding. This test focused exclusively on polishing. (We'll do a sanding test down the road, when we have a paint project in house.) It's a rotary polisher, so you want to come back with a random orbit buffer once the scratches are removed to remove any swirl marks that may have been introduced.

Great review. Going to grab myself one but I agree with everyone else. Cut down on the amount of product used and you will reduce the slinging. Put a few dabs on your pad and blot it on your work area. Less is more brother. Keep up the good work.

thanks for the review of this Milwaukee mini cordless polisher, 1 suggestion like previous comment you'll want to dab the pad all around the area you wish to polish, so you will have less sling, and use 3 dabs about dime size on a small pad like that to get you started it will remove those swirls and scratches, you just add a dab to the pad if you need more.

Liked the content and your no-nonsense approach. I own a full sized Porter Cable 7424 DA polisher but like the idea of a compact cordless for smaller areas and touch-ups. I would suggest trying Meguiars Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish for your paint defect removal. They are IMO the best consumer products available for that purpose. You might also consider purchasing the 3" cutting, polishing and waxing pads Meguiars sells for their drill mounted Dual Action Power System.

Can I just say what a relief to seek out somebody who actually is aware of what theyre speaking about on the internet. You undoubtedly know how you can carry a problem to light and make it important. That depends on which tech the polish/compound usesYou have SMAT and DAT.Dat You need to work longer to break down aka Diminishing Abrasive TechSmat doesn't break down, you can work it as lil or as long as you want or until residue dries lol

The random orbital isn't as good as removing scratches as a rotary.
Then why not a drill? Seems like extra tool for nothing.
You mention not charging a hot battery. I have cordless tools where the battery chargers have cooling fans. I put a deposit on the milwaukii 12 volt. Do you mean to say the charger doesn't have a cooling fan? I't trying to get the metallic build up of shower screen glass doors. I have tried all types of chemicals and vinegar etc. I even used a razor blade and still have more left to remove. I have seen people use a rotary sander with special glass compound for this purpose. Seems like a good idea. Im wondering what type of pad will be the best without scratching. I also bought 4 zero steel wool. Great video.

Lol... reading all the comments is funny. Everyone freaking out about how much product he’s using... he’s not polishing for long enough... he’s not doing this right hes not doing that right! Get a grip... to me it’s a quick way to get out a scratch or scuff mark on a vehicle... simple!

The deeper ones you should wet sand, compound, then polish. Some of those areas require only compound and polish.
Everyone thinks this is only good for door jam and head lights. but do not know that a 3" polisher is quicker than the big machines. because it cuts faster and you get a better result. 3" is better with a da polisher to. because there is less stall with a small machine.

Honestly, it's be hard to actually show whether it did a good job or not, scratches can easily be hidden just by rubbing the stuff on there and filling in the scratch, it doesn't get fully removed just by wiping it away

Is the rotary tool's movements different from a drill... I guess what I'm trying to ask is: can you get an attachment for a drill and have the same tool?
You can use a drill attachment but in all honesty this is better with the variable speed control and the lightness of the tool itself.

A drill driver motor has a much lower RPM capacity than the polisher. Higher torque but lower speed. I guess it would work but it would be very long.
Is there a adaptor or something to fit those disk on a drill driver?
Yes, you can get them off Ebay, with everything you need, for about £7, pads and everything.
This polisher is good to fix the clear coat run and orange peel?I have problem with that and i want buy some mini polisher....

Wasting so much compound albeit good results. Just not very cost effective.

You're spraying shit EVERYWHERE and increasing your workload because you're using WAY to much compound. Biggest rule in paint correcting and detailing, LESS IS MORE!! Never put one huge glob in center of pad. Always put 3 or 4 pea size dabs on outer perimeter of pad. Then dab the pad on the panel with no spin to put product throughout the panel. Always start on VERY low speed to spread product evenly, then increase the speed.
What product did you use on the pad
So does the compound cover the first layer scratches? Or does it remove them completely? Isn't the first layer coating supposed to protect the paint? I have hairline scratches on my car and I fear that using any polisher would thin the first coating.

Not long, they need to make a high discharge + high capacity m12 battery just for that thing.

Depends on the battery. The high output batteries are what you're looking for because the rest will overheat due to continuous use. The 2.5 will get most all your spot buffing done on a single charge, I've seen a 5.0 but never used one.
Can you also use this polisher on a motorycles fairing?
Stijn de Guchteneire Absolutely, I used to use one for headlight restoration. Just be careful to not go too hard or long in one spot or you can burn the plastic.

After! Make sure the car is nice and clean and also dry!

You need to work that compound in way more. Your stopping to soon. Work the compound till it almost disappears, your stopping while it is still pooled up.
those pads they include aren't very good, thats why the compound is getting slung.

It's good for the small stuff. For swirl removal, I'd reckon you'll want to use a random orbital. Polishing RPM: 0-2,800 RPM. Sanding RPM 0-8,300 RPM. We're in the midst of testing the large Milwaukee cordless polisher now. Video coming soon …

Gary Lee I haven't timed it for continuous operation. Batteries charge quickly. Milwaukee says less than an hour. With two batteries, there's never any down time.

I am a rookie too and I bought a polisher and it forgiving with foam pads. Never ran into any issues and also polish my light from the milky haze.

jay thompson wrong,it's perfect for small areas that are impossible to reach with a larger polisher. With modern compounds there is no need to go over this machines rpm limits. It's even a better sander! I work in a bodyshop and use it daily.
Lol if it were underpowered we would use normal drills or angle grinders which are always overpowered... The point is to use something that is underpowered that doesn't generate too much heat
