      One last point: I can't help but feel weird that their last album has titles on it that were pretty much ripped from Rise Against's 2017 album 'Wolves' - sure the phrase 'Like a House on Fire' isn't an uncommon figure of speech so you could let that slide, but 'The Violence'? Idk man, what's up with that?

    Dennis was also in Down & dirty before AA and eventually came out with a statement. In December 2017, Rock Sound interviewed Denis. Denis explained that his home country, Ukraine, is like a warzone now. He said there was stress for him and his family, and he had to stop touring to focus on family. Also Dennis was not a drinker and often said Ben and the guys parties every night and he wanted to relax and rest his vocals. Also just my opinion but as a big metal fan first I thought the black was awesome, I see what you mean about the lack of character in his voice but Ben helped write alot of the lyrics and originally they were mostly about Danny and Dennis said he shouldn't do that. To finish all my shit up I hate the last two asking albums, every once in a while I put on into the fire or alone in a room but I can't stand it. Cheers mate, thank you for the awesome series and don't stop making content :)

    I remember I was so psyched for AA to get a new singer. At the time, I was tired of Danny and his antics. And The Black w/ Denis is STILL one of my favourite Asking records. I hope one day Ben caves in and they do a couple songs from that album w/ Danny.
    Also, I remember when Denis left, Ash Advilsen (CEO of Sumerian) had a tweet saying that he would release a documentary investigating the whole situation. Whatever happened to that?

    • @ThotdFan127
      @ThotdFan127 3 года назад +8

      I wondered about that to but my guess is Ash still saw dollar signs in Dennis and decided to sign his current band instead. Possibly more reason why Asking wants nothing to do with Ash anymore as they realized he put money before everything.

      @@ThotdFan127 Maybe. That Drag Me Out album was trash, anyways. Most of the tracks were so demo-quality, it's not even funny. I hope the AA boys get their asses in gear with BNM as their new label. Danny doesn't even have to scream; they just gotta' try a little bit harder this time around, as LAHOF (while it was OK) was also kinda' lazy. Huge long time fan of AA! I’m 40 and seen them on their first US tour and multiple times throughout their career. I seen Danny go from an amazing live vocalist to a horrible one. Right before Danny left AA I left thier concert because of bad he sounded and was performing live, it was so horrible and sad to see an icon in the scene fall so hard. Dennis really gave energy and life back to AA and I saw him twice perform live and killed it but like you said just didn’t have the personality that Danny had. However, as a metalcore fan I can’t stand to listen to new AA stuff it’s just radio rock and it’s sad that they have moved on and totally forgot their roots but it is what it’s and appreciate all that they have given to the genre. I will see AA live for the first time with Danny back in Sept and I don’t have high hopes for Danny to sound good and it is what it is. Thanks for doing these videos and really loved all the research, time and effort that you put into this series 🤘🏻🤘🏻

    Massive AA fan, and I’ve loved this series alot. I’m a newer fan of theirs, but they’ve really been of interest to me for about a year or so. I’ve really admired Danny, and daresay he’s one of my favorite vocalists ever. He came back from a torn vocal cord and still sounds incredible, especially now since he’s finally learning proper technique. I’ve really liked all his stuff- Harlot and solo stuff included. HOWEVER, this man has done plenty of things to make me cringe as a fan. He reeked of arrogance, impulsivity, and (at times) delusion. That Harlot interview with him in the cowboy hat *still* makes me physically cringe onto another plane of existence. That being said though, LAHOF was not by any means my favorite AA album but I don’t hate it. I can see how it’d be a punch in the gut to old school fans, but I never really understood the hate. I also love Shinedown though, so can’t say much. That performance of the Violence you showed did rub me wrong though. His stage presence took moves DIRECTLY out of Brent Smith’s playbook

    I appreciate the time and effort you make for these videos.
    I think the only thing I disagree with is that Like a House on Fire to me sounds more like Imagine Dragons than the 2000s Hard Rock bands like Shinedown or Three Days Grace. Since albums like One-X work a lot better musically in my opinion than what Like a House on Fire was trying to do.
    It’s not like AA can’t make that sound work since they’ve always had a poppy element in their music, but I feel like the sound they went for on that album doesn’t even feel like AA.
    I personally think they should try to expand the Hard Rock sound they were doing on either From Death to Destiny or the self-titled since that’s where their strengths lie IMO.

    As a die-hard old AA fan who flew to literal France to see them tour with Chelsea Grin in 2012, I was fully cackling throughout this entire video. I knew Danny had left the band but I could never have imagined THAT in my wildest dreams.
    Huge commendations to you on this whole series!

    It made me so happy watching this when you spoke about the We Are harlot era. I got obsessed at one point of watching every single interview I could find of the band because I found it so entertaining. It is genuinely like some kind of real life Spinal Tap. It was such a niche obsession of mine and Ive never seen anyone else share the same view of how brilliant and corny it is until this video!

    For me each album has great songs on it outside of Reckless and Relentless. Which I consider to be damn near flawless and my favorite Asking Alexandria album. I hope there’s some sort of bounce back after this last album but I just don’t see it.

    I had tickets to the Seattle show for 10 years of the black, and a week or two before is when Dennis had a fallout with Asking Alexandria. I was worried they would cancel the tour, but that’s when Danny stepped in and rejoined AA. I got to see his first concert back and he was so happy and destroyed the set! It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to!

    • @SynysterEskimo

      Holy crap, that first clip of the first show back I was right in that area of the person recording. I was so stoked he was there I almost lost my voice screaming along with him. I remember getting to Seattle early and walking by the venue, and my buddy and I heard Danny singing in a sound check and we were so elated to have him back! It gave me chills. One of the best musical moments in my life.

    I fell off the AA bandwagon after Reckless, I was in a record shop and ended up buying Like A House on Fire on a whim. I think AA owe me money. The album is so so so underwhelming considering they started as a band I would've followed forever.
    Great video series my dude. Thanks for catching me up on the history of the band

  • @MsRachelMo

    I love “Like a House on Fire”. Great album. You kind of have to accept new albums as individual works. And not a collection of all the previous sounds. That’s always how I look at it. I never listened to AA before this album came out. And because I loved this album, and your first video when it came out, I got in to all the other albums. I dove deep. Now I’m a fan! I like that all 6 albums don’t sound like carbon copies of each other. You can be in different moods for different albums.

      I grew up with AA and LOVED stand up and scream, as I got older my taste in rock changed and the bands new music was changing with me. “Like a house on fire” is not my favorite album, in fact I’d say it’s at the bottom of my list but still, I like how the guys “matured” along with me. It’s like they followed me on my journey into getting old haha
      Edit: the song Antisocialist is my favorite song from this new album, it’s a BANGER!!! Top 10 song from them!

      @@creepofreako it’s just the massive change in style that AA went through that people are so turned off. First time I heard House on fire I didn’t like it but then as I was working one day and driving around town, I listen to the whole album open minded and I liked it. Anti socialist is such a banger!!!

      @@andresmontoya9 imean i felt off too the first time i listened to that album. i felt it the more i listen to it, i'm talking about the ppl that didn't appreiate what AA has done after they left their heavy roots. they can't do the same thing over and over again. it would be boring and a lot of people don't understand that.

    • @sethbutler1958
      @sethbutler1958 3 года назад +1

      Exactly, a lot of people don't understand that Asking outgrew them. I was briefly a scene kid and it was that, just a phase. I never really got into pop punk or the warped tour scene, but liked the heavier esque bands on the scene. I liked AA because they had that rock n roll persona about them and that's what I grew up on lol.

    I'm not entirely sure why I've watched this entire 4 part thing on a band that was merely a name that came up in other music videos. It does sound like there might be some bits and bobs in there I'd like, although for the most part the examples played here just kinda gave me a headache. I think I mostly interested in seeing if I could understand something of this whole Warp Tour world. For that end, it's a good job and glad it didn't end with the Danny dude dying.
