The first Asian American to win Miss Universe is 1995 Brooke Mahelani Lee. Formerly Miss Hawaii, Formerly Miss USA.
Nah, Brooke Lee Miss Universe 1997 has mixed 5 different races, she was like 1/5 Korean but she identify mainly Native Hawaiian. She's considered the only Native Hawaiian to be crown Miss Universe. Look at her past interviews or her introduction at Miss Universe 2020 as a judge. Mentioned her being Hawaiian but nothing as Asian.
She is considered the first Pacific Islander to win. She had both Chinese and Korean heritage.

TRIVIA: The Philippines or FILIPINAS was named after the most powerful and famous king of Spain Philip II (Felipe II) the rival of Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain. The Philippines became a colony of Spain for 336 years not 333 because even though they sold the Philippines to America and did not recognized the regime of Emilio Aguinaldo, they still boasted in Morocco and Gibraltar that the country was still theirs. The nationality of FILIPINO at that time were GIVEN to those SPANISH, PORTUGUESE, BASQUES AND ITALIAN while the pure NATIVES were called Indios. Insulares were those SPANISH who were born in the Philippines; Peninsulares were Spaniards and Portuguese living in the Philippines while Mestizos is a result of INTERMARRIAGE between Europeans and Natives and Morenos are the children of those Spanish-Gypsies/Andalucians/Moroccans and natives intermarriage. Mulatto is the fusion of Aeta or Ita and dark Spanish Gypsies.

Filipinas or the Philippines was a former colony of Spain for 336 years, in between those centuries it became a British colony for five years,French empire stayed for two years then a DUTCH territory for 5 years. AMERICA/USA ruled it for 52 years. In World War 2, Jewish migrated here, then during the time of Lenin, Russians fled here and many middle easterns came here during the IRAQI-IRANIAN war. IT IS THE ONLY LATIN COUNTRY IN ASIA PACIFIC.
we were never colonized by british french or dutch. British have brief occupation only in some parts of Manila and Batangas but they were drove out. Spanish, American and Japanese have taken control.
Its a very big deal for Filipinos that there some famous personality that shares the same ethnicity with them and that they manage to reach the world's biggest stage because they are so underepresented and that makes them so hungry for representation, I hope that will change because they clearly don't need some validation just to know thwt they are incredible.

Even the Miss USA contestants agree her winning Miss USA was rigged. In the participation contract it states the director can remove 2 of the contestants chosen by the judges if they disagree with the chosen finalists by the judges panel.
