  • While COVID-19 continue to devastate the world’s economy, African swine fever (ASF) is also threatening farmers’ livelihood.
The ASF virus does not pose a hazard or risk to humans but it is a highly contagious and deadly pig disease. It has already caused huge economic losses and considerable trade disruptions. Smallholder pig farms or backyard producers are thought to be the most at risk.
This video details what is ASF and how to avoid it. It also discusses the issue of vaccines.
This video is a collaboration between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) through its Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific in their effort to address ASF in the region.
