Very nostalgic. I remember being obsessed with Dance Gavin Dance in middle school and junior high school. This song was always my favorite from them. Every now and again I'll come back and listen to a bunch of there albums and it brings me back every time. I miss the sound they had!
This band has changed its sound a few times. R&B with Johnny, Funk with Travis, and no more of a poppy feel with Tillian. This is a band that can literally going in such directions and just succeed in everything they do.. DGD is hands down my favorite band. Lyrics, vocals, Instrumentation. I mean have these guys ever put out something that people just don't agree with? My point is, no matter where these guys go in direction of music its always the right way.
ABSOLUTELY. I find myself loving the Travis era too. Happiness and Death Star are such great albums but maaaaaan.. The stuff Johnny did with them is unforgettable to say the LEAST. He belonged in that band in my opinion but I'm sorta glad that what happened, happened. We could have never experienced the Travis era. As far as Tillian goes, Acceptance Speech was the first album I ever heard by them. He gives them what they need right now and i love the style he brings along. But I do find myself dabbling more with the Travis/Johnny albums more so often. Nothing against the new stuff, still incredible, but those albums man. They hit it right.
I totally agree. I love all the different style's each vocalist brings. All albums amaze me, though there's something that seems somewhat lacking when it comes to Instant Gratification. Still enjoyable, but I hope they go back to the style Acceptance Speech had if they're gonna keep Tillian. If he improved his live performance, I would actually prefer it if Kurt came back and recorded another album or two with them. 😊
The only thing some people can disagree on is a certain era of a vocalist. Some fans really liked Johnny and hated Tilian and Kurt. Vice versa for Tillian and Kurt
Yeah, but fortunately, I enjoy all era's. Which one I prefer and listen to the most changes with my mood every week. I just love the variation and diversity in the band, and the fact that I'm even able to do that.
This was the first song I ever heard from dgd November 14th 2010, and Iv never stopped listening since ❤ eerily synchronizes with my life each album and im just forever thankful for whatever they're on to 😜
+TheOnlyGHero09 If you read the original comment, he says he just graduated. The way he wrote it doesn't have enough detail to WHAT he graduated from. So the other guy commented joking about how it's okay that he repeated 6th grade so much since he just graduated. Basically referring to the fact that the og guy just graduated 6th grade after all these years instead of graduating high school like we can all assume.
My personal all time favorite band with Jonny & Kurt. Every Album has changed my views in life and the way i think. I can't express how much DGD's music has altered my life in a positive way. I can match a memory with almost every song. Sounds weird but if i could get a soundtrack to my life DGD would play in ANY situation.
Not gonna lie, the first time I listened to this song and heard the bridge, I cried. If you know me, nothing makes me cry. That means this song is more than just a song.
@HisDivineLoveForever A true musician does what they want, not needing to impress their fans. They are making the music they want, not what people want to hear. And a musician is based off their art, not their lives. It doesnt matter what his life consist of, nobody, NOBODY, gives a shit about his life. We are here to listen to music.
@theshamblingdepths thats how i felt when they were @ warped like 2 years ago and i didnt know about them & now they are one of my favorite bands...both singers are dope Jonny & Kurt
I was never into the punk/emo/show scene in fact very hip hop oriented but when I was a kid someone turned me on to DGD- they should have been one of the biggest groups of all time
But what is the whole meaning to this song? (not just the first couple of lines) But the body of this song conflicted my thoughts. I need some clarity..
Well I'm not exactly sure but from the sounds of the line "The night was innocent, but she'll never believe that I was alone." Might sum up Kurt's lyrics as someone going someqhere and having their girlfriend think they were cheating. Not sure if Jon's lyrics are related or not though.
Stop The first one to hit the cop wins His death was so obvious Think of the things that you did I hid in the bushes I was tripping on this ...Best intro ever.
WELCOME NEW FAN!!Let me inform you, this vocalist is not the original. I suggest you get some good weed and get lost in their original work of art, their first album Downtown Battle Mountain, with Jhonny Craig as the lead vocalist. Prepare for the eargasm.
"Just keep your arms around me, and I won't let your body touch- won't let it touch the ground. Just keep your eyes on me, and let me be your gravity. Until you can, can sleep sound..." Goose bumps the size of quarters.
Kendall West The members themselves call it Deathstar lmao. I believe it was a misunderstanding with the label, but they always refer to it as Deathstar in interviews.
I hope everyone enjoyed the homage to this song at the end of Evaporate( Artificial Selection) I know I did.
Dustin Slims FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE
Umm, yeah I enjoyed the weed and cocaine thank you.
Dustin Slims yussss
You got what you paid for
Never listened to this one so I didn’t get the reference

Same here, just listening to this and thinking of the album cover just takes you to another world. It’s nice.
They are still around and making music, this screamer even rejoined the band a while back
i am the same as you. very nostalgic indeed
You’re awesome

+BuLLeT2431 you hit it on the head bud, this band can do anything. Personally, im a fan of the travis era, but every incarnation of DGD is the shit!
ABSOLUTELY. I find myself loving the Travis era too. Happiness and Death Star are such great albums but maaaaaan.. The stuff Johnny did with them is unforgettable to say the LEAST. 8..? xD
is it still one of your favorites 11 years later?
What about 8 more years
One of the most underrated DGD songs.
True
Is it really underrated? That's a shame. It's one of my favorites. Such a tremendous opening track and lead into "Buffalo!"
Not really

Not really
Listening to this with earbuds is a life changing experience.
1:53 is probably my favourite section of any song or piece of music ever written in the history of ever
I loved Kurt the best in the band, Tilians version is great for what they evolved into but this version will always be the best.

This was the first song I ever heard from dgd November 14th 2010, and Iv never stopped listening since ❤ eerily synchronizes with my life each album and im just forever thankful for whatever they're on to 😜
I will never stop listening
This song evolves so many times, and it gets better everytime. it's like 5 bangers in one.
You only have one chance to make a first impression, and when Kurt opened with "Whoever said...." he nailed it.
I remember when this was the song that played when you came onto my MySpace page 😭😭 goooood times
Lol I had this as a MySpace song at one point too as well as backwards pumpkin and rock solid
You have great taste
Ive been jamming to this since 6th grade. I just graduated and i still love it
Same here!
+Drift Spec lol wot? who said they repeated?

I've always thought this song needs a video.
For some reason it makes me think of A Clockwork Orange, dunno why though.
+Nick M I can totally see where you're coming from with that reference. Could be Alex and his droogs in this mess.
+Meghan Bahr Yeah, sounds like a scenario they'd be involved in, e.g., hitting cops and such.
One of the best DGD songs.
This song is a DGD classic, nuff said.
I love Tree City and think Tilian does Kurts songs beyond well
Except this one.

I can relate to a lot of these songs. I love it!

love this tuneage....right on!
Pandora reminded me of this band. Bringing me back to High School when music was so much better, in my opinion.
This was my ex's and my song. Even though its been almost a whole year and we've both moved on it still shakes my core and I think of us.
best dgd song ever in my opinion.
Still like this version better!

I initially didn’t like Jon’s early vocals, but they’ve grown on me a lot
I always say they're so bad they're good.

that ending tho
That riff at 2:23 is just about the collest thing ever
Kurt made some really good music, going to miss him
It's hard to believe that the voice on the first verse is Jon Mess when u listen to the Tree City Sessions' version
I LOVE DANCE GAVIN DANCE.

My first listen was "cobwebs". lmao
my first exposure to this song was a misheard lyrics vid and now i cant unhear "first one to hit the cock wins"
had no clue how good this song would be until I listened to it
Thought, my left earbud didn't connect in the beginning. Then I was reminded that this band, no matter the time-period, will be a sonic experience
"YOU WANT A PIECE OF MY PIE!!! THAT'S FINE, THAT'S FINE, THAT'S FINE!!!"
Deeneneneneeeneeeeneee

The start of this song is just the best.
I was searching up the NBA player, but this... this is nice

Eight years late, and I totally agree, but.. gross.
It kills me that everyone calls this album "Deathstar" when it's clearly called "Dance Gavin Dance"
but its ok
Kendall West The members themselves call it Deathstar lmao. I believe it was a misunderstanding with the label, but they always refer to it as Deathstar in interviews.
I like saying Death Star more than “self titled” sounds way cooler
