Imagine the price too.. Huawei would be like Samsung now. And the lawsuits from Apple coz Huawei totally copied that horrible island and honor is still copying them in flagship. And I'm pretty sure the oneplus 7pro came with it's full screen a few months after this so NO I've never wanted huawei or Samsung or iPhone. I just get as close to vanilla android as I can with a flagship chipset. Can't you tell I used to love nexus devices but then Google changed them to pixels, made them flagship then does what Google does best and changed the chipsets in them to tensor which is an exynos but even worse so they no longer have what even nexus had.. A flagship chipset. @@cheychhour6052

I absolutely agree with you on the fact that innovation in smartphones slowed down way too much after the Huawei ban and it can be said that the innovative nature of Huawei was the reason they were banned because Apple and US were afraid being the 2nd best in terms of tech.

I've seen the latest Huawei phones, e.g. the Pura 70, in HK and mainland China. Innovation is generations ahead over Samsung and Apple, and the prices are far cheaper than Samsung flagship. With Huawei banned from using Google services, the current big players Samsung and Apple are just lazy in innovation and enjoy monopolizing prices. Must also give thumbs up for Honor trying to fill the gap Huawei left, but most of the share is being filled by the BBK companies.

You can't really look to west for boundary breaking innovation these days because the market simply wants everyone to be the same. The only improvements you can expect is bigger brightness, higher prices and thinner bodies - which are among the things that are well celebrated there and things that get people excited. It's a different breed.

If you've ever had used a Huawei Matebook X [if that's what it was called], it was absolutely amazing.
One of my mates flipped it out, and I was absolutely beholden by what I saw.
Side by side with my 13' 2017 MacBook Pro, it looked and felt like a MacBook Air, but with far thinner bezels [thinner than mine as well], a really, really good display [comparable to mine], suprsinlgy good typing experience, as well as equally stunning build quality [it was an all-aluminiun chassis, just like MacBooks].
No wonder they'll gotta ban Chinese products. First ZTE, then Huawei, then Tencent, and now, the EV Companies.

If one intends to keep a phone for three or so years it is worth having a mid tier or slightly higher end phone. Personally around $350 is the sweet spot on a good offer. It would also be no disaster upgrading a year earlier if a good offer comes by. Above $500 I find pretty difficult to justify for myself. A phone is a tool for me and not a hobby like my computer or hifi is.

Huawei surely made grade phones as from a certain level. I mean that only the upper mid-range and top tear range phones where fantastic. My experience ended with the P30, just after the ban where Huawei was still allowed to go for one more SW update (Android 11). In their lower mid-rangers and budget line-up it was a pretty inconsistent experience. On one occasion I purchased 3 time the same device with the same storage but on different times and none of the 3 offered the same experience. The first one was pretty good for a slightly upper budget device but the 2 others were downright rubbish.

I dont know, I honestly always hated huawei since the day I first knew about them, the phones designs werent my taste and EMUI felt chinese, outdated, animations felt rather forced and robotic than smooth as the ones on stock android and on top of that it was filled with crap and bloatware, I couldnt stand those phones. But I must admit that they are pretty nice hardware wise, its the software that absolutely ruins them for me.
