You were so close....I was hoping you figure it out to clean out the shaft of the drive worm. The spiral worm has a T8 screw accessible through the open end of the spiral-drive connector. The spiral drive is then removeable and you will probably find hair and debris wrapped around the large belt pulley. A little silicone lubricant will help out during the reassembly to keep everything moving well. Thanks for the take-down.

I know, found that screw in another video, pull that gear out and there is a bearing in that housing, mine was seized and hair was winded inside that bearing, WD40 loosen it up, light oil and it spins like a bastard now.

Absolutely brilliant video, thank you so much! Managed to free up the gear in mine, which was just super stiff and rusty it seems. A good spray of anti rust lubricant and I now have a perfectly functioning head again. Appreciate your clear video as I forgot how to reassemble it once I'd taken it apart of course. 😂

I’ve been needing to do this for far too long. So glad to have had such a clear instructional video to demonstrate this as I was too afraid I might snap something.

Just want to say a MASSIVE thanks for this teardown! I spent ages trying to pry that cap off the belt-drive end - I was sure it should have been easier than a complete disassembly! This video was perfect. Two things to add. 1) I couldn't work out how to get any deeper into the spiral-drive part than you did (EDIT: I should have read comments re: the screw! I'm gonna have to dive in there now. 2) yeah, that spring. On my second attempt to seat it, it fully sprung into the ether! Can vouch for cutting down a spring from a ball-point pen as a replacement should this happen to anyone else - worked mint 🙂

G'day Rick, good info but 1 little step further. If you look inside the spiral drive attached to the large belt cog, There is a T8 screw holding the spiral shaft onto the belt cog. Undo this and the drive will pull off the cog, under there you will find more built up hair.

Right at the final stages, yes there is a screw in the middle of that black drive spiral and I found heaps of hair under mine!
    Great help though !!

Thanks for this, it certainly allowed me to remove a fair bit of pet hair and dirt from the head.
Q: It there a way to remove the drive gear and shaft from it’s plastic sleeve? This is jammed fast and the gear isn’t rotating ; I’d like to clean it out if possible. Otherwise I’ll be up for a new head…

Looks like disaster averted: doused the gear and shaft with wd40, seems to be running smoothly again. Now to reconstruct the head 😆

Great video Rick. My dc54 turbine head is now fully operational again! For those within spitting distance of a Bunnings the Craftright 20pc screwdriver set with torx bits is well up to this task at a princely $10.00 😉

After all the strip down and rebuild the vac was still pulsing
I decided to stop it down again and lo and behold I found a break in the black wire in the universal joint sometimes the wire would touch and then when you moved the angle of the dangle so the wire would come apart
I couldn't find a way to release the wire from the little rubber gripping blocks so had to do a wire joint from two convenient places
That remade the circuit to the motor so with careful reinstall of all the parts it works well
So much easier with the video disassembly

Great video, but it idn't fix mine. I accidentally sucked in a corner of a microfibre blanket and it took some dislodging. Not the first time though. I am thinking maybe I stretched the pulley band. Any thoughts?

The part where your scraping the gunk out the end that holds the spinning chuck for the beater bar has a t8 torx. Remove that and the chuck comes out

@Ricks Tech Repairs the spiral drive that runs the beater bar or brush roll. There's also a ball bearing in behind that, carefully pluck the coil of hair in behind that, be careful of that bearing as well so that you don't poke the seal covering the ball bearing. If the ball bearing seal has hair stuck in it you need to replace that bearing. It's held in by a flat snap ring.

I just bought a new Dyson big ball the turbo head roller is very easy to slow and stop with my fingers and in rugs near useless. My older dysons head is almost impossible to stop with fingers and using it with the new vac would damage fingers trying to . Again its a brand new vac ..no use . So I contacted Dyson and their sending a replacement head. Also the end cap was almost impossible to turn. When I finally got it to turn I put a bit of lube on it. Needless to say I'm not impressed with the new turbo head

Sounds a bit disappointing for the new vac head.
Mine currently tries to take off my finger if I try and stop it, like you mentioned

I'm hoping it's just a bad head. Replacements are on backorder but I have 4 older heads and this new one works ok if I keep the airflow reduced. Been a dyson fan for years so hoping the head problem is just a fluke.@@rickstechrepairs

Curious, isn't there a screw in the center of the black conical spiral part? I have seen them disassembled that way, because the hair gets under that part and binds it up and is easily removed if you take out the screw.
