    How to install the Dodge Ram Steering Gear box Stabilizer that can solve death wobble if all your linkage is tight and you have a good steering dampner and your truck still does the death wobble.

    Just installed the updated linkage and Synergy stabilizer on my 06 Ram 2500 CTD. Thanks for your videos. Gave me the confidence to do the job myself. Used a couple "love taps" and a "quick and dirty alignment" to get the job done. Simple. Even a pharmacist can do it.

    Thanks for the information!! I just installed one of these braces to my 03' Ram. It works as advertised! Your video was the selling point for me to get one! My Ram was jumping all over the place until I put this thing on! You're a great help with your videos!!

    @feedinc I've had it on there for about 180 miles so far and I really like it. It makes the truck FAR more manageable to drive when roads are narrow and rough at high speed.

    Just put mine on. Same brand as one as shown in video. Cost about $120.Watch video as it is very informative. I used a floor jack and it worked great. Test drive proved to remove sway and drift. Not a mechanic and it took me about an hour. Finally found something to fix DW and drift. By the way, 06 Dodge 2500 with 37 inch tires. I did put a pitman arm that is for a 6" lift. All good. Thanks for a great tutorial video. Rockin the mountains in NV.

    @beefystik I've had that compressor for like 7-8 years. It's the cambel hausfeld oil bath one. I bought the small tank one for doing mobile work. I should have a bigger tank, but just haven't made it a priority. This one does pretty well to keep up.

    you should have set your Allen screw set screws last now when you tightened up the outer bolts at the frame you pushed upward on your steering shaft out of the gearbox.

    I just got the same unit from amazon and it was made by heavy metal and came from cali . My directions showed a 2'' x 2'' tube version so I was curious which way to have the 90 degree bend go as tow hooks and other issues may affect my install so I appreciate your video as my directions are so vague it may as well been a Chinese version as put truck on 4 jackstands was all they really spoke of with a few pics and no torque values or tools needed

    @Bonfield2002 Replacing the steering gear box made a HUUUUUGE difference. This Helps keep the nerves calm hitting bumps at speed and helps prolong the service life of the steering gear box. I had 80 miles or so of construction riddled highway driving/towing with a new gear, but no box stabilizer- the stabilizer really tightened out the slop even more.

    I have seen two of you videos on here and the first worked, I just ordered the kit for mine today. I have already replaced track bar bushings, steering stab. the wobble is way better but still exsists, I hope this works, as I have alomost 2" of play on wheel, more if i have a trailer. I am aslo installing outer tie rods.

    I cut out a notch in the front of the frame and welded it in. I now have a winch bumper that is also integrated by some "wings" on the tube. The winch bumper frame is bolted to the wings.

    You're welcome! I know how frustrating that can be. This made a HUGE difference on my 01. Some of the 03-05 years are really picky on lower ball joints and tires too. The factory lower ball joints have 1/2" play up and down after only 30k miles and Dodge says "that's fine and designed that way", but that will shake your teeth out- use MOOG problem solvers to correct that.

  • @briansmobile1
    @briansmobile1  12 лет назад

    @smokinjoe1969 If you have other components that are loose like ball joints or inner tie rods etc. It can cause it or if your steering gear box is worn out it also can cause DW.

  • @briansmobile1
    @briansmobile1  12 лет назад

    Once death wobble sets in- it's common to wear out your track bar. However any steering component that has a lot of play in it can contribute as well.

  • @briansmobile1
    @briansmobile1  11 лет назад +1

    Replacing the steering gear box solved the problem. This stabilizer makes the gear box last longer and reduces frame flex. Showing an after clip would have been a great idea. As for the stud, I'm not sure what you are referring to.

    Check your other linkages for play. Often when one component is sured up the symptom of another may be more pronounced. Your steering gear box may also have play on the down shaft- possibly why the misalignment of bolts.

    I've heard a lot of good things about Red-Head steering gearboxes curing the death-wobble and have thought about purchasing one for my 99 Ram 1500, but they are close to $400 (with ~$150 core) and I have never seen any follow-up reviews. I tried doing a Google search on 3F gearboxes, but nothing came up.
    I have already replaced every steering/suspension component on the front end (100% Moog), minus the gearbox and steering shaft. Springs and tires included. And the steering slop remains.

    @MrSmellyMonkey I don't know what the car is, but if I had to make a blanket statement guess I'd say switch to a synthetic gear oil that's runny when cold. I know Dodge had to do that on their 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks that are manual.

    Great video Brian. I was wondering after you replaced the steering gear box did you still have steering wheel play? My buddy has a 97 ram 1500 with a good 2-3 inches play either way. Soon I am going to replace all of his steering components as well as install the steering gear box stabilizer, I was just wondering if I should just go ahead and tell him to order the rock solid ram truck steering upgrade. Did you decide to install one or did the new steering box do the trick?

    Brian, have you ever seen the video regarding death wobble on Dodge trucks your year and they address pitman arm movement? They say it's a DESIGN FLAW regarding the pitman arm being at an excessive angle, etc. Kevins off road also mentions steering box frame bolt location/pattern thus the use of the brace, his brace looks different as it clamps on the bottom of the box but that seems a better design as it holds pitman arm shaft directly-- do they make that design for the ZJ??

  • @jonathanmetcalf9959

    I put one of these on my 2002 dodge truck w/diesel engine and where you used the impact wrench it clearly tells you to torque them down. I got mine from BD diesel out of Canada. It is a great unit but the directions clearly tell you to torque all of them down and it also says to put the greese fitting toward the back. Not trying to tell you how to do your work but the directions are there for a reason.

    • @oldmustang-1969
      @oldmustang-1969 6 лет назад +1

      I just got the same style he installed and my directions are worthless as it shows a 2x2'' tube version instead of the flat stock then bent up 90 degrees he installed and no torque figures are listed and my bearing grease fitting has a cover cap and they do say to install that forward for ease of greasing . Other videos I have watched say the pitman arm nut is 185 foot #'s now who are you going to believe or just make it the best you can as directions can be misleading and we just must use common sense

    Brian, you seem to like your truck a lot. I am looking at buying my first diesel truck. What year make and model would you buy if you had the money? What diesel engine is the best for mileage and longevity? Or is the best to work on? I am striving to become my own mechanic. I am thinking about the dodge mega cab 06' or 07'. And how can I get my wife to let me try all your different beard variations? (Maybe a video on sweet-talking the Mrs.) Thanks for all your hard work.

    Thanks for this video, this will help me install the steering stabilizer once I get it. I'm putting this on my 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 and there is a lot of play in my steering wheel it's insane. I'm pretty sure I need a new gear box too, there is about 4 inch of sway in the front of my truck, it's very bad if I go onto the highway. I just hope this fits my lifted Ram, 8-9" suspension lift with a 3-4" body lift. Has anyone put this on their lifted truck, does it fit?

    question, turning left is stiff and turning right is loosing feeling, I cranked the wheels to the right one day on a hill and the right side feels real loose when turning now. Any tips plz?
