That is the year of my Supra that came with the ‘67 Hollywood kit I’ve had since ‘71. That “ludalloy” shell never held chrome well and might be tricky to re-plate, so we nearly always see these players around with surface pitting. But it’s the sound of the most recorded snare in history that speaks! Very nice resto and fine tone!

Lovely video. A family that rebuilds drums together stays together. Lol. Love the super high tuning!!! Great for certain types of metal, funk, gospel, fusion.

Sounds really good Chris. You helper is cool. I just did the same thing to my '67, and it came out great too. I was able to drill only one hole for the lower strainer screw, because I found that the Rogers replacement butt plate fits the holes without drilling. Thanks for your video!

Great to watch and also see your children involved. I was wondering how you were gonna handle that pitting on the shell. Ohhh geeez....hate to see neglect like that...but so cool you brought back that snare as best as possible. Sounds great too!!!

Out of curiosity, how much would a chrome refinishing place charge to strip and re-chrome a snare like this? I've seen a couple of other videos where the snare was just cleaned up and the pitting was never dealt with. My OCD would drive me crazy on this, not to mention a vintage Ludwig deserves to look it's best :)

I say this respectfully, not a restoration - rather a decent clean up. Was eagerly awaiting how the shell would be re-chromed, part sourcing on the snares, etc. Appreciate the time and effort, and especially inclusion w/ the kiddo. Thanks.
