The Sheriff's opinion that it was passed around between criminals for 50 years would have made it FAR more likely to have popped up on their radar before now. The sheriff has got this one backwards. Most likely the gun has been in the hands of law abiding gun owner/s for over 5 decades.

They were going to charge the neighbor with something called aiding or contributing because the keys were left in the car. In the end, the charges were dropped for us both.
