MESSAGE TO MATT BAKER - Hamilton is not 'obviously the greatest of all time'. Hamilton is without question the most successful of all time, but that is a very different thing. Remember his dominant seasons were when he had a MASSIVE car advantage, his only real competition came from his team mates, Rosberg and Bottas, and he even lost to Rosberg one season. He became average very quickly when Mercedes could no longer buy championships by outspending the competition. It will be interesting to see how he fares next season at Ferrari.
Most successful doesn’t always mean the most talented. But LH has a very strong argument for both. Given his performance against Alonso on debut, his domination during peak years, and his continued competitiveness in his current twilight years. All drivers need a competitive car to win, but the best drivers usually get their hands on the best cars. Alonso would be the unlucky exception there.
Max is a genius last five races he wasn't in the fastest car but won 3 of them. Difference between Max and Norris is that max made it count everytime he had 10 wins prior to 2021 and after 6 years of experience when given competitive car he made it count in 2021.
I’m just fed up of the narrative that Max is never being challenged. Every single race weekend he’s being challenged and he’s just been fighting off the challenge with ease due to his skill. Max is by far the fastest driver on the grid. Checo is an extremely experienced and fast driver and for him to be so far behind Max just shows how good Max is, not the other way about. Without max, RB would be a midfield team this year. Last year we were seeing Checo being 2nd to max in a bunch of races because the RB was the fastest car. This year shows you the real difference.
Motorsport is 95% car, 5% driver. Max has been in the faster car except a couple of races this year. Red Bull still fast though. Red Bull focus 100% on Max. They give Perez the left overs.
There's a difference between messing up the start and getting beat at the start. Max is a difference maker if he's in a competitive car, doesn't have to be the fastest.
That Red Bull is well-oiled machine so it's easier for the driver to not make mistakes. McLaren are still tweaking the car and strategy. They are not used to win 24/7.
Nat, if Lando is never again happy or content when he isP2 or P3…then he will break down mentally. You can’t win all races. He needs to be able to accept that others were better at that moment. His frustration isn’t motivating, it’s bad focus, it’s costing him energy and focus. He needs to realise its abt optimising, consistency, full focus on the moment not looking to the WC already on race 10 with only 1 win under his belt…. As Max always says, “I focus on each session, Quali, race, to do that as close as possible to perfection. I’m not looking at the WC, the WC is the end result” .When you focus on each session, you are in the now, the points will come to you and at the end of the year you’ll see where you end up. When you focus on WC, and only wins count for you, then you are NOT focussing on your performance each session, each moment, you are focussing on the result not your driving.

Max is by far the best and most talented F1 has seen in the modern era and took F1 out of the slump with his entry. Still dont understand why the British find it soo hard to give credits to non-brits. Champions like Schmacher and Alonso already pointed this out in the past. Max never has/had a hidden agenda, is a normal guy, and does not bend the truth .... unlike some British.
Unfortunately we'll never know if Max was the best. Hamilton beat Alonso as a rookie in the same car when Alonso was prime Alonso. This is Sky Sports F1. It's a British broadcasting channel. This is not a race. It's a podcast. Not for the international audience. Other countries have their own broadcasters. Pretty sure Viaplay and Dazn es are glazing Max and Alonso. It seems only Brits can't talk about their drivers without getting hate.

Problem for McLaren, fastest or not, Red Bull and Max are proving to be flawless in their decision making and driving. Too often we here, "We pitted at the wrong time....I messed up on my final lap.....etc". It's time to start converting those "should have won" races to actually "winning races". Otherwise, forget the title.
McLaren isn't the fastest. However, it is strong at the end due to the setting with less tire clipping. weakness is starts slowly. and difficult to overtake when the other team's tires have grip. Under normal circumstances, McLaren can't beat Red Bull. McLaren wins in the safety car situation. and can win when red bull have severe tire wearing.

We saw the best of Max in 2021, yes, McLaren has the best car right now but the RedBull is still an amazing car, and Max is better than Lando, so obviously he's going to win when they're close. They still haven't fought on track, these cars don't see to give any good fights. The cars seem clumsy.

I'd be surprised if the other cars (especially McLaren) aren't getting quick as they finished 4th in the Constructors championship thus more wind-tunnel time last year and throughout this year to Redbull, Mercedes & Ferrari...with Redbull having the double reduction (part of the cost-cap penalty), Ferrari are under-performing given where they were at the end of last year/beginning of this year....
Exactly! McLaren had way way more windtunnel and CFD time than RBR in 2022, 2023 and the first part of this season. Horner said in Barcelona that the EXTRA windtunnel/CFD penalty did hurt their development time for the 2024 car…. And as constructors WC you get less allocation to begin with as well.
in the hypothetical scenario, I wouldn't go to Red Bull - they are the best team but not for a new driver. The only weakness they have is man management of their number 2 driver and they've gone through a number of them and shredded their confidence - Gasly, Albon, to name a few. McLaren did a great job with Norris and now with Piastre.
I would say over a lap yes. Charles has a larger gap over the race due to his race raft and tire control, which is where Sainz loses out. It would be unfair to say Lewis doesn’t have very similar race pace to George either.

Its good when drivers are honest unlike certain drivers who talk about "We" when they screw up but "I" when they dont. The Mclaren with Lando behind the wheel is the fastest car for the last two races not for all ten races and may not be for all season. Its not just Lando its the team have to get better as well. Lando has proven he is liek Max a class act but a little less experience than Max.
McLaren brought a big upgrade to the Miami GP wich Lando won. He had help from the SC but looked as fast as the RBR if not faster. Lando has less F1 starts then Max but all car racing series included then is Lando more experienced then Max.

Lando joined at 19 and is now 24.with 114 starts. Both became the youngest ever world champions in karting and Lando won five back to back championships as a rookie. So they are both super talented but Max has far more experience in F1.

After about fifteen minutes I had to turn this episode off. Same rehash about "Max is the best ever" and McLaren + the field "might stand a chance" - yawn, we've heard this many times before.

Austria is going to be the test for Mercedes imo. Last year they did well in Canada and Spain too, then they were nowhere in Austria. As Ferrari was nowhere in Canada this year and last, and about same result in Spain

No i think that Redbull is still the fastest car but its not looking after its tyres as well anymore. The gap that was pulled by max at times proved its got the pace still. But rather than big chunks of time i think its realistically only a few tenths faster in race pace but struggles with tyre usage
Lol, third best car? The RedBull is probably very close to equal to the McLaren, if not better at most tracks. Max still has a great car, Checo is just absolutely terrible, you could put any of the other top 8 drivers in that car and they'd fight for wins.

I find it wrong that Sky keeps talking about British drivers, there are 20 drivers how about a balanced coverage of this sport, I am British living in Australia but come on there are other stories, Sky need to lift it's game
This is Sky Sports F1. It's a British broadcasting channel. This is not a race. It's a podcast. Not for the international audience. Other countries have their own broadcasters. Pretty sure Viaplay and Dazn es are glazing Max and Alonso. It seems only Brits can't talk about their drivers without getting hate.
Why wouldn't a British broadcaster focus on British drivers? If foreign viewers want to tune in, fair enough but if you want the 'other stories', tune into those drivers countries respective channels?
I’m also an expat in Aus. This is a BBC podcast. How many times are the Aussie drivers mentioned on our local broadcasts during the Aus GP week? Plus Lando is the hot property at the moment as he is the only one challenging Max.

Lando/mclaren was the fastest car and the start is the reason he lost it, but let’s not act like piastri was fighting for the win too. Both max and lando showed that they are making the difference.
Please don't be so pro british, love sky sports coverage of F1 and recently podcasts, but Hamilton is one of the best but not confirmed as the goat yet.

I have waited years to see McLaren reach the peak of F1 again! There not quite there yet but they are super close if they keep up their level of improvement they will be the best again! Which is actually super impressive given how close the grid is and where they were just a few seasons ago! 👌🏎️

They had a lot more windtunnel and CFD time than RBR… that gave them more time to test and develop .. THAT certainly helped McLaren.

I read an interesting statistic recently. Albon has out qualified Sargent on every occasion, like 32-0. However Sargent has out qualified Perez 4 times!
Problem for McLaren, fastest or not, Red Bull and Max are proving to be flawless in their decision making and driving.
Too often we here, "We pitted at the wrong time....I messed up on my final lap.....etc".
It's time to start converting those "should have won" races to actually "winning races". Otherwise, forget the title.
McLaren isn't the fastest. However, it is strong at the end due to the setting with less tire clipping.

Do we watch the same races? When did mercedes improve and close anything.... Max smoked them by 18sec and they wer in clear air.. Why ccant British pundits ever be neutral. Lando winning many more races? Thats what they said about Kubica and the many titles Riccardo, Hulkenberg, Massa, Frentzen, Montoya, Ralf, Coulthard, Alesi wer gonna win. The same way Mclaren has started to run at the front, they too can slip and be overtaken by Merc and Ferrari and RB can out develop them too so lets calm dowwn and see

We saw the best of Max in 2021, yes, McLaren has the best car right now but the RedBull is still an amazing car, and Max is better than Lando, so obviously he's going to win when they're close. They still haven't fought on track, these cars don't see to give any good fights. The cars seem clumsy.

I'd be surprised if the other cars (especially McLaren) aren't getting quick as they finished 4th in the Constructors championship thus more wind-tunnel time last year and throughout this year to Redbull, Mercedes & Ferrari...with Redbull having the double reduction (part of the cost-cap penalty), Ferrari are under-performing given where they were at the end of last year/beginning of this year....
Exactly! McLaren had way way more windtunnel and CFD time than RBR in 2022, 2023 and the first part of this season. Horner said in Barcelona that the EXTRA windtunnel/CFD penalty did hurt their development time for the 2024 car…. And as constructors WC you get less allocation to begin with as well.

in the hypothetical scenario, I wouldn't go to Red Bull - they are the best team but not for a new driver. The only weakness they have is man management of their number 2 driver and they've gone through a number of them and shredded their confidence - Gasly, Albon, to name a few. McLaren did a great job with Norris and now with Piastre.

People like Max, Lando and Lewis actually display how important the driver is. Charles and Carlos have very similar pace.
I would say over a lap yes. Charles has a larger gap over the race due to his race raft and tire control, which is where Sainz loses out. It would be unfair to say Lewis doesn’t have very similar race pace to George either.

Its good when drivers are honest unlike certain drivers who talk about "We" when they screw up but "I" when they dont. The Mclaren with Lando behind the wheel is the fastest car for the last two races not for all ten races and may not be for all season. Its not just Lando its the team have to get better as well. Lando has proven he is liek Max a class act but a little less experience than Max.
McLaren brought a big upgrade to the Miami GP wich Lando won. He had help from the SC but looked as fast as the RBR if not faster.
Lando has less F1 starts then Max but all car racing series included then is Lando more experienced then Max.
@@henkm4862 Max started at the age of 4 and competing at 7 with an ex F1 driver as a father. Lando started at 7 with a father in supplying pensions.Max joined F1 at 17 and is now 26 with 195 starts. Lando joined at 19 and is now 24.with 114 starts. Both became the youngest ever world champions in karting and Lando won five back to back championships as a rookie. So they are both super talented but Max has far more experience in F1.

Max came third in F3. It was won convincingly by Esteban Ocon.
Lando won F3 convincingly as a rookie. In fact he won five championships back to back as a rookie.
Max is a brilliant driver , one of the greatest and Lando is brilliant too. I understand you pray at the alter of Max but please check your facts. and understand that Max didnt win everything. I am sure Max will win the WDC this year but at least he will have proper competition now he doesnt have a dominant car. I rest my case.

Nat, if Lando is never again happy or content when he isP2 or P3…then he will break down mentally. You can’t win all races. He needs to be able to accept that others were better at that moment. His frustration isn’t motivating, it’s bad focus, it’s costing him energy and focus. He needs to realise its abt optimising, consistency, full focus on the moment not looking to the WC already on race 10 with only 1 win under his belt….
As Max always says, “I focus on each session, Quali, race, to do that as close as possible to perfection. I’m not looking at the WC, the WC is the end result” .When you focus on each session, you are in the now, the points will come to you and at the end of the year you’ll see where you end up. When you focus on WC, and only wins count for you, then you are NOT focussing on your performance each session, each moment, you are focussing on the result not your driving.
After about fifteen minutes I had to turn this episode off. Same rehash about "Max is the best ever" and McLaren + the field "might stand a chance" - yawn, we've heard this many times before.

Austria is going to be the test for Mercedes imo. Last year they did well in Canada and Spain too, then they were nowhere in Austria. As Ferrari was nowhere in Canada this year and last, and about same result in Spain
Is it a case of not the fastest car or is it a case of not being able to manage his tyres. Coz has pace when the tyre is fresh but Lando attacks him later coz Max can't make the tyre last... food for thought.
If I were a driver with a choice between McLaren and Red Bull I would choose McLaren as it seems not only the faster, but also easier to drive. Taking into account that Checo is struggling so much

No i think that Redbull is still the fastest car but its not looking after its tyres as well anymore. The gap that was pulled by max at times proved its got the pace still. But rather than big chunks of time i think its realistically only a few tenths faster in race pace but struggles with tyre usage

Lol, third best car? The RedBull is probably very close to equal to the McLaren, if not better at most tracks. Max still has a great car, Checo is just absolutely terrible, you could put any of the other top 8 drivers in that car and they'd fight for wins.

Ferrari have their own bright designers, they have made a fast 2022 car, they were fast at races last year, and this year in Melbourne! Its not that bad. But I think all the changes of signing LH, other new employees, it all creates unrest within the team…. Race engineer of Charles booted out… it all takes its toll internally…
