    Its always amusing to hear all the 'names' of certain moves. Master Jerry Cook, keep on keeping on! Excellent moves.

    I really enjoyed watching this - I don't know off hand a single other martial artist that I know personally, who could name the techniques that quickly as they were doing them. This man knows his stuff.

    @kenpolove I concur. Jerry is so freakin knowledgeable. He has done many great seminars for my former company. His knowledge is very broad. What I love about Jerry is I run into him all the time and he always GIVES me a gift of a DVD or book or sends a video to my phone, he is very generous with his knowledge. And.... He is ego free.

    I like the long names, they describe the movement and make it much easier to remember...like your body is following a story instead of trying to remember 'go here then go there'

    I found this very informative, and appreciate that Master Cook named each of many moves in the form. That is useful to those learning the form.
    Those who berate his kung fu and him personally should look at themselves and sincerely ask what they have accomplished.

    I have personally trained with Te-Ching Jerry Cook and what most of you that are dismissing him do not understand is that he has a massive amount of knowledge about multiple arts and his precision and capabilities are amazing. He's a great teacher and a great martial artist. Also, going full power and full speed while trying to explain the forms, techniques, or applications,...freakin' difficult.

    This is indeed Fu hok Fok Fa Kuen, Hung Gar form.
    It is very nice to see a person do the form the same way, but I tend to disagree with the 'over' movement.
    I would however teach my students pretty much the same way, as he combines Yin and Yang.

    And the tiger form has a 5 or 6 movement chunk that is taken directly from Tiger/Crane again, without changing any part at all. These are signature form movements that come from one of kung fu's most widely known form.

    new york you dont combine the animals to get dragon dragon is based on twisting, pulling and clawing motions in hung gar. and the five animals are tiger, leopard, crane, snake and dragon. and darkair chinese kungfu in general is based off of many different animals so you will see mostly every kungfu having some type of animal style

    I dont mean to imply that being a martial artist makes one inhuman or that one has to kill or anything like that. On the contrary- I believe one should avoid violence except in cases of necessary self defense. I disagree with you though if you are saying that Shaolin martial arts are just "plain pretty". They were developed for battlefield use and have nothing to do with fighting for sport. The applications are meant to stop someone from attacking you and getting back up.

  • @jasma98
    @jasma98 12 лет назад +1

    @Oliiiverr According to professors Kang & Ma, 2 of China's most highly respected martial arts historians, putting myth & legend aside, archeological discoveries give evidence that chinese "wushu" began as military arts (before becoming civil arts) and can be traced back 5000 years. Silk production has a history going back 3000 years and was used to manufacture Wushu (or Kung fu in cantonese) uniform designed to protect the kung fu or military man. Civilians did not wear silk at that time.

    There are many versions of hung gar going around these days, but the Lam family lineage is the real thing.

    • @michaeltaylor8501
      @michaeltaylor8501 2 года назад

      Frankly I don't know either, but it appears that somehow some Chinese martial arts got attached to Chinese medicinal theories sometime in China's history, so some systems' top martial artists are also doctors of Chinese medicine. Methinks that this began when healers learned martial arts (IMO those who are practical & very familiar with the human body - such as doctors tend to be - are those who make some of the world's best martial artists); & they in turn taught both martial arts & medicine to those students capable of learning both; nevertheless, the medical info got attached to the practice of the martial art.
      Unless one overdoes it or is somehow badly injured, one's whole body will benefit from martial-arts practice; & one can use martial arts to help protect one's self & others.
      Regardless of art or form, done moderately fast, lungs benefit; done moderately long in duration, heart benefits; & when heart/lungs benefit all other organs benefit (& I know this without a doctorate; & doctors know so much more than this - although they all practice because much is theory; so perhaps some doctors theorize that a certain type of movement helps a specific organ more directly than other movements do*).
      * = IMO the Chinese tend to get caught up into any one of China's various philosophies like Confucionism or Daoism with things like the 5 Elements or the 8 Tri-Grams, & then they try to make just about everything fit into their respective philosophy of choice - or else they'll get tied up in a philosophy imported into China & do the same with it.

    "...the entire Hung Family Shaolin 5 animal 5 element series"??
    While there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the techniques so far as I can see, he merely broke up the famous Hung set "Tiger/Crane" as created by Wong Fei Hung and set them up as completely different forms. Perhaps so that it is easier to teach (I don't know the reasoning), but I don't know why it would be claimed to be 5 Animal 5 Element...
    The last portion with the different animals are even the same moves with different feel

    First, there is no such thing as 'traditional kung fu clothes' unless you're referring to those of the shaolin temples which is certainly not what he's wearing but kung fu doesn't have any such traditions with clothes and is therefore dissimilar to arts like judo and karate in this respect. These are just traditional clothes of china and the chinese did used to wear this when they went to work lol so it's not appropriate and looks ridiculous when a white american tries to emulate this
