- Dante from Devil May Cry will always be the original king of cool. In this video, I dive into how amazing his character was as he truly personified the phrase "I'm Him". He's taught me a lot about how to stay calm, chill, and playful in life. Enjoy and let me know in the comments how Dante has impacted you growing up!

For the people that care more about the highlights here it is:
Catholic school shaped Shower Thoughts character, instilling both discipline and a sense of guilt that led to nervousness. A pivotal figure in my life helped him relax and embrace himself.
Dante's character embodies a thrilling mix of carefree joy and serious dedication to those he loves. His playful demeanor in dire situations serves as an inspiration to overcome fears.
Dante's character is a mix of humor and depth, showcasing his confidence while also revealing vulnerability towards loved ones. His ability to balance cockiness with humility makes him relatable and admirable.
Dante's character embodies both a carefree attitude and a strong desire to protect others. His cool demeanor masks a deep vulnerability, showcasing the balance between strength and compassion.
Sounds perfect! Take my pin!
My favorite was Dante until I read Visions of V. Like damn…didn’t know Vergil was such a deep character other than “MORE POWER!”
Wanna read that, damn now I wanna make a Vergil video haha gotta do more research first though!
Love how you focused on Dante's vulnerability at times since most people don't talk about that. I've always found that his surprising level of depth makes up about half if not more of his coolness and you really get that! Great video overall!
Glad I could nail it down! Yeah I think everyone emphasizes his funny side and I definitely did in the video, but wanted to dedicate at least some time to his serious side which is just as cool…it comes back full circle to the title of the series. And thank you!
one of my favorite moments from dante is after defeating cavaliere angelo, when he suddenly drops the cool guy act completely, and asks trish if she's okay and tells her to just rest, he sounds so sincere there
I don't know if this was intentional or not, but using Nero's theme knowing that Dante is voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch in the upcoming animated series is pretty clever.
Haha wasn’t intentional unfortunately, just knew I had to include that banger in the vid somehow 🔥
one thing I love about dante is exactly what you said, he knows when too be serious, he knows when to put that ego aside and that just makes him even more cool.
He’s the whole package!
Same. Like he’ll be cocky and jokey with his opponents but when something comes up he’ll put that aside because he cares a lot about protecting people.
Bruv I'm A Muslim Who Grew Up Playing Devil May Cry myself DMC3 helped me overcome a childhood fear of mine
Nice! Yeah it deff created a lot of different memories for different people, appreciate this
@@thoughtsfromtheshower It saved many lives
Devil joe? Yo i love ur content man
@Goten115x glad you're enjoying these videos of mine Goten I've got one that'll be up tomorrow
@@Devil-Joe looking forward to it and good luck with the videos
bro hasn't played in forever, but he still remembers how much Dante has been impaled
FACTS XD
As a kid growing up in a strict catholic family it was pretty overwhelming sometimes because I was so young and didn't know anything about religion at all and I mostly had a hard time in Sunday school but when i first played DMC 3 and saw Dante he was a character that I instantly loved from the moment i saw him the way he cared himself in the eyes of danger the way he had charisma and the charm everything about him is what made me who I strive to be in my day to day in life and also the fact that he's the youngest because I was the youngest in my family without Dante and DMC as a franchise I don't think I would never have the confidence and strive to do must things and for that is why he is and will always not just my favorite video game character but my favorite character in fiction
That’s facts! I was also the youngest in my family so I can relate in that sense too, it’s tough cause everyone sees you as immature and Dante helped me to realize that it’s okay…love this and glad to have this feedback!
I'm not sure if this is still Canon But the Original Creator of devil may cry intended Dante's jokes to be a way for him To get ready for battle Because he was nervous To fight the enemies
That’d be so cool if true! I can see it, Dante has more substance than people think imo
He makes jokes to cope?
holy shit he’s just like me but better fr
but in all seriousness, i love this. I think Vergil is implied to have his overtly “powerful” persona just be an act as well. (Look up the Vergil dance battle taunt. He controls his doppelgänger, so he’s just pretending it’s dancing against his will.)
Sorry for text dumping, i just love this
Nah thats not the case with our Dante but it was the case with nero in DMCIV maybe they picked that trait.
I think it’s more to hide his insecurities, considering how most of the problems in his life were due to his demon lineage, which not only gave him superpowers but also enemies that would be happy to prey on his weaker human acquaintances and friends to hurt him like the prequel novel showed.
Something many people may not know, is that berial, the big fire demon from DMC4, is actually mundus's son, the demon that took everything from dante, but what I find interesting is that berial is the only boss in DMC4 dante gives the choice to flee, and when dante does kill him his face shows no happiness or satisfaction and he doesn't make a quip, I'm sure dante knew who berial was, I like to think that was dante choosing to end the cycle of hatred, and showing a small hint of remorse for berials decision, a very powerful scene despite not being portrayed in that way
I love dante. He was also a character i could relate to and in a way he taught me how to be cool too. He was to me always the better brother too because he also never lusted for power. And his slow embracement of his nature that developed over the series. Plus he a great embodiment of the moral alignment of a chaotic good character.
They are all so goddam cool, there is just nothing like them honestly.
I do like what Beyonetta tried to do though.
Hit the nail on the head. I recommend watching the anime and reading the novels btw, they add so much depth to Dante’s character especially the novels.
It’s funny, I tired reading one of the novels I think when I was 7 or something and it was too advanced for me, might try to read it again now
@@thoughtsfromtheshower They’re really good! Especially the first one aka his Tony Redgrave era (it’s like pre DMC3). Honestly he really went through the wringer in that one and it explores a lot of his psychology.
I also went to Catholic schools too so I feel you about the discipline aspect, the same time at least my school was really unserious at the same time, not that it was bad it focused teaching/developing leadership but remembered, these are still young boys we’re naturally unhinged so the lesson “Time and Place for Everything” was immensely important. Be disciplined but remember to have fun. Watching some of the smartest students act calm and collected like Vergil who are really passionate turn into crazy goof balls like Dante is hilarious, like the seniors tossing our Dean in a pool for graduation and our priest blessing away the demons while he’s in the water it was fun. 😂
Yeah being calm with confidence and having fun while doing your job IS A DISCIPLINE and Dante is a perfect example of that I love him.
Let’s Rock Baby 🤟🏻
Love this! Was thinking of making a Vergil video as well, his layers of coolness are so interesting to look into since he’s more elegant
W video on W character
Hope you'll go viral soon 🍺
Thanks! Now I’m rewatching Vergil clips and wanna make a vid on him but imma let that come with time 😂
thank u for summarizing my thoughts about dante hes one of my favorite characters and im the total opposite of him but i look up to him a lot
jackpot ❤
dante is also my fav character i loved it how you explained it it so well and especially saying how much he cares about people that made my heart melt great video over all keep doing well bro !!!!
Thank you glad you liked it! Yeah he’s not an overly complex character but he hits all the right notes, one of my faves for that reason
One of my favorite characters
Hands down
Devil May Cry played a huge part in my childhood.
Awesome same!
Jackpot!
Hell yeah!
Didn't even watch the video, saw the title and thumbnail and immediately came here just to like it cuz real.
Appreciate that! I’ll take it 😂
It's genuinely rare to find someone who actually SEES Dante. I mean, the Fandom itself often sees Dante as a meme. Or even as if he were "inferior" to the other members of the Sparda family. I've seen so many times comments like, "He's not that 'complex' or "he's not that human and emotional" As if Dante was summed up as a "funny and silly guy" while the others are more interesting than him.
But here you are. Someone who, like me, actually sees Dante's journey and how he works. The emphasis you gave in the video to Dante's vulnerability to his own feelings was really moving for me.
Thank you🤍
Appreciate this so much! Yeah this channel is really about taking a deeper dive into characters and things and I've been thinking about Dante for a while in terms of giving him his full respect with this, so glad you enjoyed and relate as well, its the best thing that I can ask for!!!
To be fair, Dante is the best take on "Characters who are deeply injured but retains their positivity".
He lost his parents, forced to fight against his own brother, suffering from anxiety and self-doubt, and financially troubled, yet he's still goofing around like he doesn't have any negative emotions.
Dante is both deep and entertaining, unlike your typical anime protagonist who has a personality as shallow as a water puddle on the side of the road and trying so hard to be cool/funny only to end up in a cringe compilation. They really have to take inspiration from Dante and characters who successfuly follows his formula of cool.
@@azmiilian2277 Exactly 🫶🏻
An amazing explanation of dante's character! i hadn't thought about it the way before tbh, just makes me like him more lol
So glad to hear it! That's what I try to do with my vids, give a different angle and just reappreciate these games and characters
Bro. When I see intro from DMC3 i hear in my brain only 'Devils Never Cry' 😁 'Cerberus Battle' was sooooo epic too 😎
Straights facts! Devils never cry is burned in my brain, also out of darkness from dmc4 for some reason
@@thoughtsfromtheshower 🤟🤟🤟😎
What I love about Dante is that he manages to be cool without feeling forced. He does goofy stuff that sounds completely stupid but ends up being cool FOR how stupid it is. Both Dante and the games know how stupid they are and revel in it, looping around to being cool again. Dante being a complete goofball also helps, it makes him feel much more sincere and likable.
All in all he's kind of got a similar energy to Leon in the OG RE4, both are hilarious goofballs making the best of a terrible situation, acknowledging how stupid it is and reveling in it. I'd actually say RE4 Leon might have been inspired by Dante, considering DMC1 started as an early script for RE4. A few Dante-isms from that early script might have carried over to RE4 when they changed the protagonist to Leon.
Love this! It’s funny, I never really played RE too much but even just looking at the design of Leon I see so much of Dante’s design in him, and after looking at some RE4 content looks about right! I want to play that remake
Dante is the coolest until whatever game he is in gets the Special Edition added to its title.
id take the risk of being called embarrassing bcuz if dante could do it, then so can I 🙏🙏
he is literally me
😂😂😂
Dante is very relatable literally me
love DMC 3 to death It made my taste in vídeo games and characters Dante and vergil were my heroes as a kid (and still are)
This guy even kinda of speaks like Dante.
Lmao appreciate that but my voice deff aint that cool XD
1:40 What??? You're killing demons and fighting against forces of hell. That's literally spirtual warfare. Same with DOOM. You can't go more christian than that
Haha very true 😂
I love this series I just finished playing through Devil May Cry 3 SE Nintendo Switch and 5 based game(going be sometime to make those videos) with Dante Nero and V and soon I’ll be playing through as Vergil on SE to fight a certain someone down the line I’m subbing to your channel
Thank you! And yeah these games are goated, I know 2 was a little meh but the rest are great, thinking of making a video down the line on the underrated mess of DMC 4
@@thoughtsfromtheshower Ayyye let’s go!
very noice vid :3
Thanks!!!
6:32 Nero became Vergil for a second
😂😂😂
I actually try and follow these points, albeit not very successfully often.
Haha same
I mainly look up to Vergil but I look up to both because they are cool
I wanna make a Vergil vid haha
Dante is in my top 5 characters for overcoming social anxiety. Number 1 is the doctor from doctor who.
Haha that’s great! Yeah I’d put Dante in there too, you might’ve just given me a new vid idea…
Bro do you have insta. I've looked through your channel and I'm going to binge on my off time. I would love to chat. I feel we have a fair bit in common? If not that's fine as well. Thanks for the great content.
@@samgourhan207 Thanks a bunch! I'm actually thinking of creating an Insta for this channel as well as looking into Discord since my community's been growing pretty quickly, really appreciate this I should plan to have Insta up within the next week, check back to my community posts
@thoughtsfromtheshower I wish You luck with discord. I couldn't figure it out very well. But yeah this channel deserves the best for that dante video alone. I was also very religious so I relate to a lot of the points made in the video. The moment You used the term catholic guilt I was like yeah this guy gets it
When I bought dmc 4 my grandma didn't like how it was called "DEVIL may cry" and she said "you're a GOOD angel fighting bad demons right ???"
Sure grandma 👍
Hey, this sounds like Lucid Enigma
I have no original personality, I stole it from this guy ever since I was 7
Haha love that
This is one of the many reasons the hate on video games is so unjustified. Behold a violent video game helping someone heal from religious trauma.
I have a strong connection to DMC,I was 14 when I first played DMC 3, I have a strong admiration for dante, I tried to shape my caractere like him until I find my personal way, it's helped me alot to be better and to face fear when I was young, Dante is like cool big brother to look too, it was very good role model, and honestly I couldn't accept DMC5 because he looked so different from DMC3 and DMC4, they made big mistake with the realistic face this is my opinion.
Haha yeah you know his design in DMC5 caught me off guard a little bit but it grew on me, I understand the resistance though, DMC3 Dante really is the goat in terms of design
@@thoughtsfromtheshower exactly, he was perfect why they changed him ,It always make me angry 😅
So basically I got ps2 from my cousin brother and i got almost every ps2 cds that ever released (god of war 3, grand theft auto, dbz , final fantasy etc) thought this one CD looks dope and boy oh boy the game starting with “you heard of it haven’t you? The legend of Sparda?” Did something to my 7 year old self. And you talking about being in a catholic family also made me nostalgic about me struggling to match other girls my age being perfect. I grew up in a South Asian Muslim family who values study AND religious activities. I struggled with morality and wanted to be a nice person without losing my cool.
Islam didn’t really helped me but my ma supported me to research and I’m currently practicing Hinduism. When I pray to Lord Krishna I remember the demon swords from dmc3 agni and rudra LMAOO and oh Dmc I love you for existing. Thank you Capcom and thank you Itsuno.
Haha! Awesome, yeah I also remember the Agni and rudra boss specifically, wish I had clips to put in but love this comment glad this vid resonated with you!
me as a protestant adding more to my "catholicism isn't good" arsenal whenever i hear the side effects
I mean yeah bro is not fully human but okay sure.
Same shit, but not Dante, but VERGIL
Haha definitely want to do this at some point
Discipline is good bro, never be ashamed of your Catholicism.
Oh no! Was just trying to get across the experience with catholic school haha, some of that discipline deff stuck with me and I’m grateful for it
