The nice thing I like about the East Anglian coastal towns and villages are that once you get into the streets off the promenade all you can hear is the sound of silence, living in an urban area with thousands of cars going past each day along with hundreds of blue light vehicles, ( I live next door to a large police station ) and just a couple of hundred yards from the town centre, it is just wonderful to bathe in that sea of silence and immerse oneself in a world so different from the one I am subjected to daily, nice video Tim, thank you
A delightful video in a delightful location. The curious area you point out at 2 mins 50 seconds, are actually boules pitches. You can often see people playing this classic game of an evening if you look out your window in Aldeburgh.
The quote or whatever on that scallop is pretty creepy. It's a good likness of a scallop. That Tudor building has kind of blown me away a little bit. Amazing! As you walked up I thought is that a....that's a Tudor! That was unexpected.
What a wonderful place. And, as one or two others have said, those sand pits are for playing French Boules. There we are - you go to bed wiser than when you woke up. Always a good thing.
I remember the queues for the fish and chip shop. I was 13 the last time I went to aldeburgh 33 years ago. Camping in august so we were there for the carnival and Chinese lantern parade. Think I might drag my husband away from the Xbox one weekend and go back. Happy memories, thank you 😊
I'd love to see one on Rendham, Saxmundham, Friston or Ramsholt where we visited from the US prior to Covid. For us the most memorable thing in Aldburgh was the Irish Wolfhound named Bubbles in a very nice pub. The food was superb everywhere.
Another great video Tim, Aldeburgh looks so peaceful and scenic. Only an hour's drive for us at present. Staying @ Woods end Bramerton in beautiful Norfolk.
Thank you Tim. Really enjoyed this edition. Brought back memories of a holiday I had there a few years ago. I loved the Scallop so much that I got up really really early to take photos of it with the sun rising behind it. It looked so beautiful. Maggi Hamblin did a great job.
Had a pint or two of Adnams in the Cross keys while staying in a cottage just a few doors away from it, while on holiday. Thank you for another great video.
I just watched a Torquay walkabout video before this one, it was noisy, busy, ok if you like that sort of thing, but then I found this one and it was a delight to watch, Tim's usual amicable self, great commentary, interesting, informative, well worth watching, much better than the carnival that Torquay is, but what do I know, I'm just a boring old fart
Not sure if you’ve already been told but those long strips of stony stuff on the grass where you said you didn’t know what it was for, they are for Bowles. In the summer you get your fair few of older people coming down to play Bowles
The pitches you asked about are for playing Petanque or Boules; differing names for the same French game. I have seen on more than one occasion people playing the game there; they pitch solid metal balls upwards towards their target.
Aldeburgh is my favourite place on the Suffolk coast. Love your video. Could the sandpits at the beginning of your video be a place to play boccia or boules (petanque)?
@@christophermee5214 Yeah i couldn't remember the name. i knew i wasn't the normal Bowls gameBut said Bowls because Pertonk falls in same category as Bowls :)
Another great video Tim , but having seen the shop that says we smoke fish, I now have a mental image of someone with a fish rolled in paper trying to light it😂
I live in Saxmundham next to Aldbrough and my nan lives there in Aldeburgh omg🙉🙉 and thats is my uncles fish stand and them strips of mud if for bowling
Well done you are getting better att he presentation, Aldeburgh is always windy when I go there, Go in the winter and it like deserted. lol the wind fairly whips into places you do not want it to go. Maybe a few comments as to why the boats are on the beach might help and why a famous sculpture is on the beach might add to the interest. Do people actually to holiday there? lol
@@WalkWithMeTim sorry i wasn't being critical. I was thinking it might add to the numbers viewing you and take it beyond a walk through or past ,as some of your work is interesting and informative,For example it is the place Benjamin Brittin lived.or the use of the martello towers, or the long shop museum. Keep up the good work I am enjoying your series of walks.
Very nicely shot. I have been doing some vids myself and know how difficult it is to get good results. Would be interested to hear what hardware you used.

This is very scenic and reminds of something you would see in a painting. Very beautiful and unique! Just a lovely place to explore and walk!!
Glad you enjoyed it
So much to see on the Suffolk coast - it’s an area I must explore!
Hi Tim
You have promoted Suffolk and Norfolk and Essex so well. Thank you.
Lol thanks sharon
What a fabulous fascinating video and Aldeburgh looks lovely and some of those buildings are simply unique!! Great work as always Tim.

My favourite seaside resort. I love Aldeburgh.
Awesome! There are still many beautiful places in Norfolk and Suffolk that I am still yet to visit.
Yes they are!
What a wonderful place. And, as one or two others have said, those sand pits are for playing French Boules. There we are - you go to bed wiser than when you woke up. Always a good thing.
Ha thanks barry
The gravelly rectangles on the promenade are for petanque, Tim. We saw some people playing it there yesterday.
Thanks Nicola

I think at that time it was one of the most popular in the uk
The sandy bit outside the white lion is where the locals play boule

Those perallel shingle courts are a french ball game called pateng or boules i think
the pebble homage reminds me of the pebble shrine in st Marys church at Kersey, Suffolk. Check it out if you can. The church is open xx

Bocce ball is what the gravel pitches are mate 👍 nice video mate
Thanks Lee for watching! yes I heard that
And if you'd gone a bit inland along the river Alde you'd have seen Snape Maltings - one of Aldeburgh's chief claims to fame.
Yes I've heard that 👍
"The quote on The Scallop is "I hear those voices that will NOT be drowned"

Another great video Tim , but having seen the shop that says we smoke fish, I now have a mental image of someone with a fish rolled in paper trying to light it😂

Nice
they are for playing French Boules
We are coming in September stopping at kessingland but will visit can anyone help in advising us where to park please
have a great time!
Never been there before
And now u have 😎
The statue on the beach is a clam not a mussel, that's why you thought it looked weird 🤪
Tony C he said oyster not mussle when talking about the scallop. All seems fishy too me 😉
Lol

Aldeburgh…home of the world longest queue for a chip shop.
lol indeed in the summer crazy
They look like Bouls pitch
lol
I hear those voices that will NOT be drowned.....and it's a scallop, not an oyster.
Hi, think you gave the wrong impression of Aldeburgh, it's not just for renting, there are a lot of locals who live there!
