I liked it a lot. I bet each episode is probably movie length, but had to be edited down. I'm guessing we will see the missing 3 months in a flashback, maybe when Joel is unconscious, or in a coma from the stabbing injury...
Pedro really owned this episode man. That scene where he’s emotionally pleading for Tommy to take Ellie to the fireflies because he’s afraid of getting Ellie killed if he took her himself was heartbreakingly beautiful. I feel like this was better than the game’s version where he aggressively told Tommy to take Ellie and he shoved Tommy for saying no because the show’s version had more emotional depth. Give Pedro all the awards lol.
I've had anxiety attacks and goddamn Joel's felt so fucking real. Pedro fuckin' Pascal, man. Just ripped my heart out with his breakdown to Tommy. Like Bill said, "I was never afraid until you showed up". And I had tears when he saw the girl outside that looked like Sarah. The look on his face. Goddamn.
In some interviews I've seen Pedro Pascal using an inhaler so I guess that he has asthma or some other breathing problem and the Canadian climate is rather cold as you can see.
@@BeemerOfflineactually the part one remake shows the labels on Joel’s pills before everything falls apart are anti anxiety medication, which fits with the stress he shows about his job at the time. As much as I loved Pedro's 'I'm not the man I used to be' monologue, my favourite bit of his acting was in the reaction to Ellie bringing up Sarah. It's the most subtle facial expression change but you can gather his entire mood shift just from the small head tilt and eye brow furrow. Yes seeing those 2 Native American actors in the beginning was amazing and they both were incredible I wanted to see more of them but I doubt we will see them again though.
Joel breaking down and confiding in his brother hit hard. His PTSD finally breaking through is just another level of realism. I’ve dealt with it myself and like Joel when I stopped self medicating with drugs and alcohol, everything it was holding back came rushing out. Can we all agree that Pedro is a masterpiece? He doesn't have to act, because acting comes to HIM. Jesus...this guy. Bella Ramsey is a GREAT Ellie. I don't wanna forget her. She has put together some of the best acting scenes of the series. Can I just have both of them? And give them a big ole hug?

Someone please go give Pedro Pascal a damn hug man, this dude is acting his butt off and somehow is managing to capture the essence of a character that even if he wasn't Joel from the game and a different character entirely, this acting is what is making it so easy enough to love him🙏
What an episode. Pedro's acting blew me away, AGAIN, it's so great to finally see Joel's vulnerability and how scared he was all the time, what a beautiful job he's done
As someone who never played the game, I thought there was plenty of tension throughout since I didn’t have any preconceptions of what’s to come. Also, I felt the emotional ‘You’re not my daughter’ scene was completely believable and earned.
Give Pedro an Emmy, he totally deserved it, that scene with Gabriel luna was a masterclass, really heartbreaking moment, i fell all His pain. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Pedro’s acting in this episode was just so good. It gave me chills. Him tormented with guilt, and loneliness. Also I find it interesting the show runners talked about how Joel is now signed up to be “her father” doesn’t always mean he’s the best influence on her, but it’s better than nothing. I do like how you can see Ellie’s dependence and emotional attachment to him now, that’ll be hard to sever at this point.
Ellie is just natural with her attitude and the way she executes those lines are perfect. She is the kid with the attitude and where she doesn't even have to try hard. She is aware of any environment and knows what to say in the moment and it plays out perfectly.
I've dealt with panic attacks for years and Joel's are like spot on whats helping him get out of the panic attacks are by distractions Ellie shouting, the dog barking, thinking he saw his daughter. Distractions are real ways to help get out of panic attacks if I was at home I'd grab a buch of ice put it on me try and get me distracted and to snap out of it when I'm out I always carry some hot sauce packets or sour stuff to snap me out of it and that helps it's nice to see how accurate that is and the symptoms are good as well its really well done.
Every episode -- other than 4 -- had me in tears at some point. I'm not depressed or overtly emotional, but rather, I feel they've done such a good job. As someone else said: "Beautiful and/or tragic enough to make you cry."
Pedro's acting in this episode was crazy good. That scene when he was talking to Tommy was so well done. Also that part when Joel was teaching Ellie how to shoot the rifle, when she said "your gonna shoot this thing or get it pregnant" was hilarious😭😭 loved this ep
Joel getting emotional opening up to Tommy and afraid he's gonna fail Ellie man that was powerful Pedro Pascal better be nominated for an emmy for this show
Also the argument scene between Joel and Ellie in the show? Chef’s kiss! Beautiful and emotionally dramatic just like the game’s version. Pedro and Bella both killed this scene just like how Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson did it in the game.
@@Ay3shizzle I think a huge part of it was in the show it went directly from Joel & Tommy’s convo where Joel was crying, into that scene with Joel and Ellie. So it was already in a different sort of state of being, since in the game you’re fighting the hunters before that convo
I assumed I was reading too much into it when I thought the girl in the cafeteria was Dina, I’m so excited other people thought the same! Every episode is my favorite I love all the little references, this episode had me smiling with tears in my eyes
It was heartbreaking seeing Joel watch the girl who looks like his daughter, who had a kid and taking that moment of reflection of what could have been.
I was SOOO worried going into this episode feeling like there wasn't enough of an emotional connection. I'd have to say that they nailed this episode and built up to the big moment so freaking well. Absolutely love this episode.
I go to Mount Royal University one of the ones shown in the episode and it was so cool going to class while they had the apocalyptic set in our main hall. This show is fantastic🔥
I loved the couple at the beginning it reminded me a lot of my actual family that are Native and they talk like that, “the guns all the way over there” the Fireflies line “we get them in the summer” “there are firefly people?” And their reaction to Ellie cursing, it really felt authentic to me and that’s subjective I know, I just thought it was great, also Greg I saw you in Quantumania, best cameo in the movie 😂
I know exactly what it is. It’s just my opinion guys, that’s all, so I’m sorry if it’s not to your liking…but what especially worries me is that after spending an entire episode on an added-on bonus part that exists outside of the main storyline, this will leave them only *two* more episodes to get to where we *know* they *need* to get to by the *finale* in regards to the main story we know from the video game. That is pretty troubling to me and I’m feeling a bit apprehensive about it.
@Jaime A. you said it yourself… “the last two episodes couldn’t properly cover the rest of the story itself.” Sorry, I’m just saying, though, haha, but we shall see…I HOPE they prove me wrong!
the way I went from sobbing to being happy when Joel gave Ellie the choice to stay with him back to sobbing again in the last scenc..... phenomenal acting
I felt like most of the bonding in the game happened off screen between seasonal advances. You just think you're bonding in game because she's always with you in combat
True but there's also these little interactions between Joel and Ellie in the game. Moments where Joel initially pushes Ellie back, but she still ends up finding a way to creep back into his heart. For example: after Joel, Ellie, Sam and Henry escape the sewers, Ellie tells Joel she killed a runner and that Joel would be proud of her. She's clearly looking for validation, but at that time Joel isn't giving it to her. After Henry and Sam's death, they have to work together to cross the dam. Joel gives Ellie a high five at the end, which is Joels way of giving her that validation she was asking for earlier. The whole "Ellie shot a guy with a gun she shouldn't have" is another one of these moments where Joel initially pushes her back, gets mad even, but later on he apologizes in a Joel way: "It was either him or me". He gives her the gun too at the end of this little arc. While I don't think that the bond between tv series Joel and Ellie is unnatural, it's these moments that would make their relationship stronger and the emotional scenes much heavier imo.
@@Jorge-ob1iu yeah I remember the interactions and optional dialogue. Some are still present but I think it was replaced with the writing of Joel having actual PTSD and the way he speaks to Ellie. After the truck crashes (something that also happened with his daughter) he keeps asking if she's ok or hurt. In the woods he was too honest and harsh by saying if people found them they would do worse than rob them, you could tell it scared her then after they shared a moment with the pun book he did what he should have done in a parental role by lying to her nobody would find them. He had been slowly opening up to her and I think the show presented her "validation" as a person rather than just being cargo when she was speaking to Henry about how Joel puts up a tough exterior but "I'm gonna ask you a bunch of times". All while smiling. It's not the high five but it's still sorta the same.
When Ellie is scolding Joel about wanting to abandon her, that whole argument hits so deep 🙆🏻♀️.... Especially knowing what she's talking about when she said "Anyone I ever cared for either dies or leaves".... 😭🙆🏻♀️✨
Also Jackson in Part 1 looked the same in Part 2, we as game players only saw the power plant section of Jackson in the game. THe town part was still there but we didn't see it until Part 2
one of the best thing that I love that they're doing in the show is that each character they introduce also mirrors Joel and Ellie's relationship journey and or a foreshadow of what's to come. Like the writing has just been so phenomenal
The Native couple in the begining really hit home for me because thart's how they genuinely interact with people and eachother, to the accent and all really spot on! I loved their addition so much!
I love episode 6 showing how Joel is vulnerable. He's not just a character but like real person showing his fears and regrets and wanting to do the right thing. This actor played it beautifully. Pedro Pascual killed this acting as a Joel. Never seen such a good actor played it so well like he's been through some shit and we can genuinely feel how he felt. His ship with Ellie is true and you can't separate these the now.
Pedro Pascal is just phenomenal. Even that scene where the dog was gonna sniff Ellie, the subtle acting showing us Joel going through so many emotions. Him admitting to Tommy he's scared and pleading to him. It's everything
Also loved how they kept the monkeys lol! Also Joel getting injured in the show by getting stabbed in the abdomen is an interesting change from the game’s version because in the game he falls from a tall height and gets impaled by a rebar.
While I’ve loved a lot of the changes. I feel like the falling scene with Joel being a badass and shooting people while being impaled is a lot better than just being stabbed.
I just love that the choices they've made for this show are so well thought. I love that they took a lot from the game while at the same time expanding on something that wasn't. You can tell that they really want to make sure that the scenes works while also leaving crumbs that they'll expand on season 2.
My heart is still racing. I can't believe how each episode they KNOCK IT OUT OF THE FREAKING PARK! I have so many traumas from this game and I love the game characters so much but man these people are so perfectly casted I'm loving the live action sooo much more it gives it so much depth to the source material/game!!! My heart went through a Rollercoaster of emotions. From the set up for S2, the town, Tommy and Joel relationship and how real it feels, María, the houses, the town!!! Again bc it's so perfectly done, the characters that popped that will be in s2!, the university C'MON! My heart it's so happy and SO FUCKING SAD at the same time. Pedro did such an amazing job this episode. Showing the ptsd and also being vulnerable showing a softer side and that honesty with Tommy. I love love their relationship here, it feels so real and so deep. I love it all. I have so many feelings I just written the ones that come to mind bc I'm still processing how good and painful( knowing what I know...) this episode was!!! I have so many emotions!!!!
Again with the fast upload. You guys are the best! This episode was wonderful. Like I'm never disappointed with them. Love how they flushed out joel and ellie development. Seeing Jackson developed very similar to game 2. And all the feels. I'm gonna be sad when it's over
I just saw the BTS where they built the sets and Rutina said that her job was easy when the production set was built making her job easy with the performance. Also Graham Greene from Die Hard with a Vengeance and Dances with Wolves to start off the episode so awesome.
The acting in this episode was the best I’ve seen all season. This is now my favorite episode. So many Easter eggs- I cannot wait for Heavy Spoilers to have at it!
After seeing that video that mentioned that the show was being written around the same time the 2nd game was being developed the little seeds that are being planted for season 2 make a whole lot more sense.
Amazing episode, felt a lot of the video game best dialogue in this episode. Lot of call backs to the game and cliffhanger in the end. Can’t wait for next episode!
I cried so hard this episode. Pedro really made you feel his grief and struggle. It was absolutely heart breaking. BUT ILL BE DAMNED if he’s taken out by a BAT after all this
Joel listening the Ellie from earlier and lying about everyone loving contractors is just a great touch. Like in the last episode when he gives her that look when she takes the gun out of her pocket when he told her to put it in her backpack. Love the touches like this
Came here as soon as I finished the episode. Man what a great one, another 10/10 tbh, loved the changes, loved the things they kept the same. Joel having PTSD for loosing Sarah and now being scared af of losing Ellie, man that convo with Tommy made me emotional. The "you have no idea what loss is" dialogue was executed to PERFECTION, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are fucking killing it, they did exactly the same. Oh yeah, THE TOWN FROM TLOU 2?! HELLO, YES! (Shoutout to Dina also) They way the episode ended... man, had me crying even tho I know what's gonna happen. Pedro Pascal was the MVP this one, such a great episode, not one miss!
I love the 22:27! It’s the moment in the city against the hunters. BUT what I instantly thought was the ‘Joel teaching Ellie to shoot’ concept art. It was never in the game so having it shown in live action makes me so happy! ❤
I straight up did the Pedro Pascal meme of laughing then cried when Ellie picked Joel immediately. All my emotions are raw and in edge and it was just so wonderful that why are finally a family together.
i feel in this episode like even if they didnt mention about season 2 i feel in this episode that we will get that part 2 season so much. Joel's first panic attack early in the episode got me thinking, "wait dont tell me this is how he... how they will change the event in part 2? either this or is this fear he's feeling instead?" and then that girl staring and how the canteen and how developed the town is how they each have their own shelter. A lot of things. I'm so glad we got this wonderful story in our generation and i will keep it with me through my whole life. I will always get emotional in those important moments.
Though I wish the university section was longer, this episode was beautiful and Pedro acted it out perfectly. Probably one of the most accurate panic attacks I’ve seen, they were so similar to my own

@@jakebaker4066 the show was completely filmed in Alberta around Calgary , Edmonton , Fort McLeod , Canmore and a couple small towns in between
@@ryans413 I know… I was adding that Vancouver also has amazing film locations.
@@jakebaker4066 just too expensive to film
Every episode -- other than 4 -- had me in tears at some point. I'm not depressed or overtly emotional, but rather, I feel they've done such a good job. As someone else said: "Beautiful and/or tragic enough to make you cry."
Pedro's acting in this episode was crazy good. That scene when he was talking to Tommy was so well done. Also that part when Joel was teaching Ellie how to shoot the rifle, when she said "your gonna shoot this thing or get it pregnant" was hilarious😭😭 loved this ep
Joel getting emotional opening up to Tommy and afraid he's gonna fail Ellie man that was powerful Pedro Pascal better be nominated for an emmy for this show
I am so glad to see Rutina Wesley in a popular show again. She was amazing as Tara.
Yes, she was great in TB.
Another high impact emotional episode with a dope cliffhanger just like in the game.
Also the argument scene between Joel and Ellie in the show? Chef’s kiss! Beautiful and emotionally dramatic just like the game’s version. Pedro and Bella both killed this scene just like how Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson did it in the game.
Agreed! And I think that scene was even more powerful in the show version, and I didn’t think that was even possible
@@georgia2321 I’m still shocked lol
@@georgia2321 also what made you think the show’s version of the scene was more powerful?
@@Ay3shizzle I think a huge part of it was in the show it went directly from Joel & Tommy’s convo where Joel was crying, into that scene with Joel and Ellie. So it was already in a different sort of state of being, since in the game you’re fighting the hunters before that convo
just wish he said the mighty thin ice line, other than that it was epic
I was hoping for a break of tears and emotions tonight. Nope. My lord, Pedro is truly amazing and Bella omg
I hope they win awards for this work

He’s alive
Man 6 weeks have flown by so quick we only have 3 episodes left
I assumed I was reading too much into it when I thought the girl in the cafeteria was Dina, I’m so excited other people thought the same!
Every episode is my favorite I love all the little references, this episode had me smiling with tears in my eyes
It was heartbreaking seeing Joel watch the girl who looks like his daughter, who had a kid and taking that moment of reflection of what could have been.
When he sees his brother it’s really touching feels way more authentic and sad in the snow than In the game
They also felt very Canadian, lolol. I myself have uttered "holll-leee" more than once in my life 😅
Pedro acting in this episode was amazing each episode has been incredible and I can’t wait for the next one
Man these episodes just keep on getting more impactful every episode. Ik for a fact I'm gonna be crying again for episode 7🤣
The teaser for episode 7 looks pretty bad to be honest 😬
@@ezramotz1995 left behind DLC if Yk Yk and which u clearly don’t it’ll be one of the most heartbreaking eps
This episode was an emotional roller coaster for sure. I sobbed sm.
I felt like most of the bonding in the game happened off screen between seasonal advances. You just think you're bonding in game because she's always with you in combat
I agree
@@devin6079 yeah a lot of the bonding moments in the show you really don't get that type of connection between them until part 2 in the flashbacks.
this exactly
I loved the cameo in Jackson, such a cool addition
Love how fast you guys get these reactions up lol I can watch it alone and take it in and then watch it again right away with you guys
Pedro just nailed it in this episode, not saying he’s not been awesome in all the others but the emotion and the fear, just amazing
Love that both of these guys seem like such huge, genuine fans of the game, they’re more excited than me by the Easter eggs 😂
The Native couple in the begining really hit home for me because thart's how they genuinely interact with people and eachother, to the accent and all really spot on! I loved their addition so much!
Felt like I've known them before. Almost like a childhood memory.
Bella Ramsey really looked like a young Ashley Johnson in the scene by the fire, I thought. Great episode, love the pacing of this show so far
This episode was amazing, Pedro Pascal’s acting in this episode was incredible
Pedro Pascal is just phenomenal. Even that scene where the dog was gonna sniff Ellie, the subtle acting showing us Joel going through so many emotions. Him admitting to Tommy he's scared and pleading to him. It's everything
Pedro and Bella both really deserve an Emmy for their performance in this show.
@@herdheaven Same, although if you drop like in the game you pass out, it was an interesting way to give us the kind of the same result
@@superbobomario8849 agreed I feel like the type of fall from the game would be something that would be hard to make seem survivable in live action
This show continues to get better every week and shows no signs of slowing down. I’m guessing we meet David and company next week
Looks to be the DLC backstory
Next episode will be the DLC and I personally think it will end with Ellie running into David
Probably the episode after
I just love that the choices they've made for this show are so well thought.
I'm gonna be sad when it's over
I think I practically held my breath the whole time they were in Jackson, it was just so intense and incredibly well done.
*Any Character Breathes*
Andrew: Just like the Game!!!!
🤣🤣 this made me giggle
I just saw the BTS where they built the sets and Rutina said that her job was easy when the production set was built making her job easy with the performance. Also Graham Greene from Die Hard with a Vengeance and Dances with Wolves to start off the episode so awesome.
The acting in this episode was the best I’ve seen all season. This is now my favorite episode. So many Easter eggs- I cannot wait for Heavy Spoilers to have at it!
This might have been my favorite episode. This one felt the most like the game to me.
your reaction to dina is amazing
After seeing that video that mentioned that the show was being written around the same time the 2nd game was being developed the little seeds that are being planted for season 2 make a whole lot more sense.
That was my same reaction to Dina! I love all the Easter eggs for Part II!
I didn’t catch that at first I had to skip back and watch again and then I was like holly s**t
Amazing episode, felt a lot of the video game best dialogue in this episode. Lot of call backs to the game and cliffhanger in the end. Can’t wait for next episode!
The emotions and tension in this episode were so well executed!
The actress that plays Maria also starred as Nola on show Queen Sugar for the past five seasons.
HELLO, YES! (Shoutout to Dina also)
They way the episode ended... man, had me crying even tho I know what's gonna happen.
Pedro was remarkable this episode, he really got to shine
I feel like Dads (older brothers too) relate to this. When we get too weak in later years and question our ability to protect our family.
Jackson existed in the first game. We just meet Tommy and Maria at the power plant. We see it from the hill when Joel and Ellie say bye to Tommy.
I straight up did the Pedro Pascal meme of laughing then cried when Ellie picked Joel immediately. All my emotions are raw and in edge and it was just so wonderful that why are finally a family together.
I always immediately watch y’all’s reaction after the episode airs lol
This adaptation just keeps getting better and better. Pedro and Bella are just perfect for the roles, such good actors for such complex characters
They actually do have Jackson in Part 1, you just don’t go inside it until Part 2
Just watched this episode!
Ellie is still funny and adorable, but still a BADASS character.
i feel in this episode like even if they didnt mention about season 2 i feel in this episode that we will get that part 2 season so much.
The way he interrogated the old couple is explained later as something Tommy and Joel's strategy to get info from 2 people
If you look closely at the chalkboard Maria's son was only 3 year old and died just some days after Sarah
I’m just amazed how this show gets better and better each episode! Thanks for keeping up with all the episodes.
As soon as I heard Rains Fall's voice I got super happy. HBO needs to do a GOOD Red Dead series.
I looked it up as soon as I heard him speak haha. The voice is so familiar.
Though I wish the university section was longer, this episode was beautiful and Pedro acted it out perfectly. Probably one of the most accurate panic attacks I’ve seen, they were so similar to my own
How are these out so quick!? literally just watched the episode
love you guys
These are pre-recorded. I believe they got access to the full season before it aired to everyone else!
You guys geeking out over every TLOU Part II reference was exactly me when I watched this last night! And my friend hasn't played the games, so I was trying so hard not to spoil!
Literally my only why moment was why did Joel pull out the knife 😂 leave it in hahahaha
I couldn't wait to see your reactions to HER, and I loved it. You guys are great. I don't get to watch this with people who have played the games, and you guys are pretty much the only reaction channel that has. Thanks for sharing.
