    ** ZT Reaver Cleaver - Specifications **
    Overall length: 79 cm (31'')
    Blade length: 46 cm (18'')
    Spine thickness: 5 mm (1/5'')
    Weight: 1.6 kg (3 lbs 10 oz)
    Blade material: 5160 spring steel
    Heat treatment: Hardness of 54 HRC
    Price: $374.95
    ** Where to get it **
    www.zombietools...
    ** Pros / Cons **
    + Impressively powerful in chopping and cutting
    + Unique post-apocalyptic wasteland look
    + Extremely tough and durable
    + Surprisingly agile due to the long handle
    - Very heavy for the size
    - Handle wrapping can be rough on the hands
    - Relatively high price
    ** Verdict **
    This stylish undead killer is quite the beast in terms of raw power and toughness. It's inspired by the Chinese dadao and offers amazing cutting performance. The design and finish is very unique, and if you like exactly this kind of aesthetic there is currently no alternative that I'm aware of.
    The price may seem steep to some but it's made in the USA and you do get good value for the money. I sure wouldn't mind giving some of the other models a try as well.

      MisterDeth0 or actually a pretty usable camping tool!
      Decent enough for making firewood, tinder, probably good at cutting up meat, as well as a decent firepoker, and a lot of other makeshift uses.
      Maybe not good enough for fighting off a bear or killing an animal now, but if you have it in your car as an “in case of emergency look badass” thing, it would definitely have its uses.... just keep a rubber mallet with it and it should be fine

    Very strong was that machete when it was made whole again; the viscera of his foes dripped readily from it, and the bodies in it's wake grew cold, and its blade was wicked and unyielding. And Skallagrim gave it a new name and called it Beinsamler, Reaver of the North.

    Oh gods... My heart dropped at 9:14. I'm sure yours must have also when it happened.
    That said, I have to agree, it did show just how tough this thing is. And as crazy as it sounds, if I had the cash, I'd definitely consider getting one of these, even with the weight it has. It has a rather nice profile, and one can't help but be impressed with such a beastly chopper. Though to be honest, the two ZT weapons that I'm really interested in are the Rat Bastard and the Diphos.

  • @muzzlevelocity4397

    Despite the damage to the cleaver being terrible, you have made something that would be more useful in close quarters combat. It has lost the intimidation factor that it had before, but would now be much more agile indoors or in up close combat. I am not saying that anyone should do this with their weapon, I am just making lemonade from lemons.

      For 7.62x39 FMJ is the normal round. Most of it is milsurplus and hollow points are banned for military use. At least this is what it's like in the states. I assume Canada is similar in that regard.

      +mutiracialbeatdownPB Yeah, and the 7.62 isn't even a battle rifle cartridge, but a intentionally powered down assault rifle round. Try 8 mm Mauser or similar, it has about *twice* the kinetic energy of the 7.62x39 (approx. 4 kJ vs 2 kJ) :O
      Overkill, anybody? ... Well, ok, they shoot .50 cal at people, or Apache 30 mm etc etc. But you could also just drop a tsar bomba on their heads (without detonating, just to crush and humiliate), but there got to be a threshold of enough is enough somewhere xD

    • @spurgeonholloman8135
      @spurgeonholloman8135 8 лет назад +1

      +boycot gugle The AK-47 in 7.62x39 has seen more battles than any round ever made.. Take note on the other 7.62 rounds for Battle rifles... www.tactical-life.com/firearms/top-20-next-gen-combat-rifles/

    • @boycotgugle3040
      @boycotgugle3040 8 лет назад +8

      Spurgeon Holloman
      None of these is a battle rifle. It's a defined term, and does *not* mean a rifle used in battle. Think warship vs battleship. Kind of different, eh? A frigate is a warship but no battleship. An AK is a combat rifle, but no battle rifle.
      The guns in your link are assault rifles, or maybe combat rifles, but no battle rifles. "Battle rifles" are weapons like the Mosin Nagant, Lee-Enfield, Mauser k98 etc., which were designed for single shot/bolt action at very distant targets. That's why today one might call these (in case there's a scope fitted) sniper rifles. But 100 years ago, every soldier had one of these high powered ones. The AK round is significantly less powerful, otherwise it would tear of your arm on full auto (and you wouldn't hit a thing).

    That is one tough blade. Another factor could have been that the impact point was near where you clamped it, limiting its ability to dissipate some of the energy by vibration, but that probably wouldn't have been enough anyway.

    Plate steel targets don't break even with .303 rounds because they are mobile. When hit, they fall or spin to dissipate the kinetic energy from the round. The blade was fixed, so it absorbed the impact completely; shattering the blade.

      Glen Phenix It also depends on the types of steel. With recent innovations, fixed plates can withstand rounds up to .45 magnum if not greater. AR500 plates are amazing.

    I don't know how much steel exactly it would take to stop a 7.62x39, but it's more than two of those. It's a really powerful round. Either way, it was for science. I like your stuff, I hope to see more like this in the future.

    • @Skallagrim
      @Skallagrim  10 лет назад +44

      Yes, I did. Steel targets for rifle shooting are not much thicker than the blade. The mistake I made was to forget that such targets are made of much harder steel, and I definitely underestimated exactly how powerful that cartridge is.

    and the reason it shattered instead of having a hole put through it was the type of metal it was high carbon spring steel. spring steel is very tough against bending and cutting however it is brittle and with enough shock it will shatter like glass. my 440c ninjato is a decent balance but i don't abuse it like shooting it with a 7.62 rifle round. it is however able to cut clean through a four inch thick oak wood dowel.

    The finish difference between the bevel and the flat is due to the steel's as-forged finish left on the blade stock. It has a bit of dimpling left by the forging on the flats, so the finish they apply sticks better and looks better on the flats than it does on the machine finished bevels.

    I'm pretty freaking impressed. Most blades would be swiss cheese long before what it took to kill this monster. The even crazier part? Yeah, you blew off about 2/5 of the blade. Yet, the rest is in one piece, still sharp and sturdy... You could probably still use it to nearly full effect even after the end got blown off. Maybe re-grind the snapped end to make it smooth, or even put a nasty gut hook on it. That is one impressive piece of steel. If I had the cash to drop on it, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

    Even if you hit a rigid object with a wooden bat, you would still be able to feel the hand shock if you do not hit with the correct spot. The sting comes from the blow not hitting at the blades center of percussion. Because of the design of the blade, the center of percussion may not be at a convenient place.

    They applied a forced patina to the blade, its not a finish like blueing or cerakote by any means. It's basically black rust. It'll form a barrier against red oxidization which will destroy the steel, but it wears off very easily with use. If you want to build the patina back up, or change it completely, you can spray vinegar on it and let it sit for about an hour. That will reapply a base layer. I've experimented with mustard and ketchup and made patterns. Even had a snakeskin pattern come out accidentally when I wrapped a quilted paper towel soaked in lime juice around one blade. Any acidic compound will do this. If you let the blade sit for a few years it'll naturally acquire a patina as well.

    Well and you should also consider that the previous shots may have already weakened the blade, not enough to break it but the hits still can harden the material on the point of impact making it more fragile, and possibly creating micro fractures on the material, this may contribute to the blade breaking under the impact of the rifle bullet.
    I m not saying the blade can withstand a a rifle bullet, only that the previous shooting to the blade may have affected the results.
