Thanks for this vid! Made it super easy even for someone who knows nothing about cars
Thank you for the comment. Glad the video helped.
This helped a TON! My son’s car was bought new in 08’ and doubt it’s ever been changed. Heading to the parts store now because I suspect his musty smell is coming from a very aged filter! Thanks for the video!!
Glad the video helped. On this particular car I have used Duct Cleaner a couple of times over the years also. www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b/interdynamics-3992/tools---equipment-16488/shop-equipment-16634/cabin-air-cleaner-sanitizer-19871/4fb4b88c55a0/interdynamics-a-c-pro-vent-duct-cleaner/17900/4384805/2001/ford/f-150?q=duct+cleaner&pos=0
nice video ... great camera angles, lighting, and explanation. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment. Good luck with your repair.
You mention how the removal of the retaining clips is the hardest part of the repair. I agree! I can pry the edge closest to me up, but what kind of force and where do I apply it after that? It's all plastic and I feel like I'm going to snap off the clips. StevenA mentioned he used needlenose pliers to grab the clips, but I'm trying to understand which direction he pulled.
It's one of those things that is hard to show/explain on a video. The clips are the worst part of the job.
Thanks for making this video. Much appreciated.
Thank you for the comment. I hope it helped with your repair.
Very helpful video. Thanks a lot
Thanks for the comment. Good luck with your service.
I did get it done and those clips stink. I think one thing about the removal that I might know is that you can't have the glove box all the way open ... I think it's a problem in the removal and re-assembly, too. The glove box needs to be a little bit closed. I used a screwdriver to pry the clips out enough to get my fingers on it.
I think they have changed those clips in the newer models to be less of a pain.
Thank you, so much.
Thank you for the comment. Good luck with your repair.
Thank you dear
Thanks for the comment. Good luck with your repair.
What happens if someone took out the old air filter and never replaced it??
It wouldn't filter the air. Presumably, if any debris entered the air system it would blow it out the vents.
I have a mouse hiding in here.
Eek.
I'm only watching this video to know how to remove the retaining clips and you did not show how to do it... I have this car I cannot remove the retaining clips I needed you to show properly how to remove them,,🥺😡
I apologize for not showing it more clearly. They are not very easy to get out, as you have found. I believe Hyundai redesigned them in their later models, not that it helps you with your vehicle.
Those side clips are a bad design by Hyundai. They are very hard to get out. I had to use a screwdriver to pry the edge of the clip up and then grab it with a pair of needle-nose pliers to get the clips out.
I am sure some genius engineer that has never worked on a car designed those.
I have a 2016 Hyundai Tucson with a much better design to access the cabin air filter. Those clips on the inside of the glove compartment are now replaced with two knobs that you just twist and pull out. It is so much easier and easy on the fingers.
Thanks, Steven, for describing what you did. I'll try that. With the pliers, did you pull the clips toward you or perpendicular to the flat face of the top of the clip or an angle or what?
