Replacing Elantra HVAC / Blower Control Module 2007 - 2010 Hyundai Elantra

- I'm changing out the HVAC control module in my wife's 2008 Elantra. It's a really easy job if you know how, so I'll show you how. You'll need a #2 Phillips screw driver, and something thin that is suitable for prying. I used my pocket knife as my pry bar, but a plastic pry bar made for car interiors would be better. If you also have a stubby #2 Phillips, it will make two of the screws a little easier. if your screwdriver is not magnetized, you may also want an extendable magnet, but that's totally optional.
Be advised: some Elantras have the "OFF" switch on the middle (fan speed) knob, and some have the "OFF" switch on the right (blend selection) knob. They plugs on the back appear to be identical, but I do not know if they are interchangeable. Our original had "OFF" on the right hand knob. We bought a replacement, and it had "OFF" on the middle knob, and the module did not work. It may have just been a bad module, or they may actually be incompatible. I have no way of knowing at this time. We bought a second replacement module that actually worked, and it's "OFF" position was on the right, like our original one. Авто/Мото
Dude that "back threading" thing is a life saver.
It certainly can be. It really helps things to last longer, and makes taking things apart easier down the road.
I am having the same problem as everhome else that ended up here.
I just tried the "hot under glovebox" trick and **@###!!! The A/C is now blowing!!! It's 2:45 am here and I just ran around my house looking for someone to tell, everyone is sleeping.
Thank you, you are AWESOME!!!!
I do know I have to replace the motor still, but I am so happy with my car right now, I may sleep in it tonight!!!
Tam Kiger Sweet!
Thank you so much for this!! I was told that my control unit needed replacing and the part plus install was going to be well over $500. I found the part on Ebay, followed this video step by step and voila!! This saved me a ton of money and I could not be more appreciative.
That's awesome! I'm glad I could help.
Great video and thank you for sharing. My wife's elentra rear window defrost was not thawing the frost fast enough. Got a new climate control console and followed your steps - you saved me a lot money. Thanks!
Thank you for the Video, I've had to replace multiple parts on my 2008 Elantra. I think it's fun figuring out what the problem is and try fixing it yourself as a learning experience. This video definitely helped out to someone who doesn't know much about tinkering with this aspect. Thank you!
Thank you, my brother. I touched the madness in order to know how to remove the drawer under the air conditioning unit. I searched for a long time, until I thought that it was necessary to dismantle the lime decor. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, my brother. I did not think that it would open so easily.
You're very welcome. I'm glad it helped.
Thanks, this really helped me change mine successfully!
Excellent post. Thanks a bunch
I in turn thank you very much for this wonderful explanation and I hope you will publish more Sami from Iraq
I'm glad it helped. I don't have the car anymore, so I won't publish anymore with this car. It was a very good car while we did have it.
Thanks for the video!
thank you for the video very helpful
Thx sir great information
Great video thanks
Thanks very much sir ♥️
على الرغم من اني لا اجيد اللغة الأنجليزية ألا أني تعلمت منك الكثير،،،
تقبل خالص وصادق تحياتي✌️
Excellent. I'm glad I could help. Thank you for the kind words.
Just what I needed. Thanks.
I just got done trying to replace my module. I went thru all the steps and the new module didn't work. All was not lost though, to my surprise I was able to take the old module apart by taking out the screws and then pulled the knob caps off of the module. I took some electrical parts cleaner/lube that I had gotten from Radio Shack a while back for a guitar amp project and sprayed into the opening around the middle of the rotary switches. I rotated the switches many times and everything loosened up. I put the module back together and plugged it up and everything works great! Your switches might just be dirty like mine were, good luck.
Awesome! That's even better than what I did. I hope you shot video of that. I'm sorry I didn't see your comment sooner.
There’s no doubt that when you said “ victory “ the only 2 words missing were “ in Jesus”. That old hymn. Thanks 4 the video.
We just sang that last Sunday.
I have a few questions. You mentioned testing the resistor? Are you talking about the resistor for the module? And How did you test the resistor? Additionally, if you dont mind saying where you purchased your module from because I am also in need of a model like the one you bought. Thanks
thanks
gooooooood man
Many thanks for the video! Your first control module may have been DOA because it was the wrong part number for your Elantra. I had exactly that problem, and noticed that both your DOA unit and mine had the "off" position on the blower knob (center). The proper part for your VIN, and mine, has the "off" position on the top-center of the mode knob (right).
mrpeab0dy yes. I noticed that too. I'm not sure of it makes a difference or not. The plugs are exactly the same.
Thank you sir
you sound a bit like mel gibson lol , good work
Asap play
where did you buy the ratcheting screwdriver?
And of your ac blows only on 4 and not 123 then it’s a bad resistor which is an easy repair you only have to unscrew 2 philips head screws and unplug the wire from it it’s also under he glove box to the far left you might have to peel your carpet linen a little bit to uncover it but you need a stubby screw driver so it fits under there
If you have to bang under the glove box for your ac to turn on it’s a bad blower motor which is also easy to change on a 2008 Elantra it’s literally 3 screws and you have to unplug maybe two connections but the new blower motor is pricey ranging from 75 to 80 dollars
Спасибо большое!!друг
Excellent video! I need to replace the actuator that controls the air flow to the floor/defrosters; how do you remove the panel on the driver's side to gain access to the actuator?
I don't think I had to remove any panel when I replaced the actuator. If I remember correctly I just needed a stubby #2 Phillips driver, and I had to bend myself into an upside-down pretzel.
@@svriderpokey Thanks, I'll give it a try!
Спасибо большое тебе
You're welcome. I'm glad it helped.
👍👍👍👍
On my elentra i only have airflow through the top vents and nowhere else, but the A/C, defogger and "OFF" selection still work, could this be a problem with the climate control module like in the video or is it the actuators? also where are the actuators located cause i cant seem to locate them? thanks a bunch
@ThePariss333 Awesome, I couldn't find this info anywhere. I found it because of this post.
how did you know the resistor works ?
Does anyone know what would cause the blower to only work on high but it wont let you turn on the ac?
Thanks. Excellent video. With you go pro. ! Yes?
Yes
Hey I have a question i have a 2008 Hyundai Elantra and I only have a/c blowing to the floor do you know what that means and/or how to fix that?
That could be the control unit, but is probably the blend door motor. I replaced that a few months after doing the control unit.
My a/c on my 2006 Hyundai Tucson sounds like there's a short circuit when I change the speed on the knob. I have to adjust the knob on each speed so it can stay on or else it makes the shirt circuit sound.... Do you think it may be the module???? Thanks!
It sounds like it could be, but it's hard to say without seeing it first hand. The blend door actuator motor also went bad in this car. That made a buzzing noise if I remember correctly. We sold this car several years ago, so I'm going only on memory.
I go through about 1 every two years, my fourth one just started failing last week. It makes me wonder if there is a known problem with these units. If your air starts turning on and off by itself then speeding up and slowing down, it's this unit that is failing.
My A/C flickers on and off randomly but when it's on it blows cold and hard with no issues. I Don't think it's the blower motor or compressor. You're saying you've had this issues and replacing the control module fixed it?
Did anyone ever figure it out
Will this fix the problem of the a/c fan not blowing any air out (the middle knob)?
Maybe. If no speeds work, it could also be a bad blower motor. If some speed work, and some don't, it's most likely a bad fan resistor.
Question, are you able to reach the body control module from there by doing this?
I actually just did this and found that I can get to the body control module by doing this, thanks for the video!
I'm glad you figured that out, because I had no idea.
@@svriderpokey I did this and it was not a fix. Could my eBay part be bad also? How do I check?
Are there bulbs inside that part? The blue lights don’t come on for cold air on my Elantra.
I'm sure there are, but I don't remember if they are replaceable. I sold the car about a year ago.
My 2010 Hyundai Elantra stopped blowing ac and heat altogether. I fiddled with the knobs and after a bit the controls began working again. But they recently stopped once more. Is the problem my blower control module?
It sounds like it, but without laying hands on it, it's too hard to say.
This comsider window? That what told me problem mine doesnt shoot out cold air only hot
Could be the module or the blend four motor. I ended up replacing that about a year later.
Donde lo consigo el módulo
What was the original problem/issue that led you to changing the module?
If I remember correctly, the fan would not turn on, and I had 0v at the fan connector.
Shortly after I replaced the module, the blend door motor failed, so the temperature wouldn't change. I don't know if one had anything to do with the other though.
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👌👌👌👌👏👏👏👏
how do i change just the resistor or where is it located? my car is an 07
Yes, that is where it is. Its one connector and two Phillips head screws iirc.
I have a question. I have a 2008 Elantra and the blower motor has been acting crazy. It makes a loud whirring sound, sometimes it blows soft, other times hard, sometimes it just won't blow at all! Also the A/C and heater turn on sometimes all by themselves, and I have to turn the on/off dial to get them to turn off. A year ago II brought it in for a diagnosis and a place said I needed a new "Control Head." I decided to live with it acting sporadically but then about a month ago it stopped again altogether. Several weeks ago a different place checked it out and said the blower motor is fine and it could be the resistor, so they put a new resistor on it and also replace the cabin filter. It did blow colder and worked for several weeks but now it is failing again. The blower motor was acting weird again, not blowing air or fast/slow/fast/slow, and now today it quit working altogether! I've been fiddling with the dials and although those little green lights come on, and I can hear clicking sounds, like something is trying to turn on...the blower is not working! So....I'm wondering if it could be the control module. Is the control module the same thing as the "control head"? Thank you, John
winterdesert1 I think so. It sure sounds like it.
Thanks for the answer. I'm going to try to do this myself. Can you please tell me the exact model/make of the screwdriver you are using, or the size for the tip. I want to be sure I have everything I'll need. I did some searching for the control head and it looks like I'm going to have to buy it from the dealer ($300). I really don't see anything out there that will be the exact same thing unless I do that. Unless you have any suggestions. thanks!
winterdesert1 it's just a #2 Phillips. Mine is a Snap-on, but it doesn't need to be.
I have an update for you. The car place just called me and told me to turn everything on, then to bang under the glove compartment. If the unit comes on its the blower motor. I just did, and it did turn on. So supposedly all of this is the blower motor!!! Good news I guess but this is all frustrating also!
winterdesert1 good luck.
I'm having an issue where my blower cycles on and off. I can hear the relay clicking, and then the lights in the center of the buttons go out, and the fan stops. Then I hear the relay click, the lights come back on and the blower starts up again. Does anyone know if this sounds like a bad Blower Control Module? Thanks
I have the EXACT same issue. My A/C just clicks on and off randomly. But it does blow cold and hard when it's on. Did you ever figure out the fix for it? was it the control unit or blower motor??
@@chadwin did you ever figure this issue out? I have the same issue. Thx in advance
@@jamiefrierson509 yes! With mine, first I replaced the control module (which didn’t fix the problem) then I switched the Blower Motor itself with a new one and it totally fixed it! Works great now. Just the blower motor for me
How much was the module?
I think it was about $25 on eBay. It was a while ago now.
i have the same car and i don't have any hot air you think is module climate control
Armando Espinoza It could be. It could also be the blend door actuator or a coolant problem. Your question is about diagnosis. My video is only about changing the module. Good luck.
Ok thanks for you help
Ok thanks for you help
Armando Espinoza did you find out what it was mine isn't blowing any hot air either
Hello, this was just a replacement due to that fact that the vents were not changing correct????
Kiki Miller No. The air wouldn't turn on at all.
are you familiar with the vents not changing from floor?? please let me know if you have any ideas or can help, thanks!!!!
Kiki Miller Yes. It was doing that after I changed out the control module. It turned out to be the actuator by the driver's right foot. In my case, I think one must have failed, & damaged the other.
my Elantra still makes cold air but it doesn't blow. I don't know how to fix it. I used to be able to jiggle the box under the dash on the passenger side, but now it doesn't work at all.
Xenia Gilmore sounds like the resistor or blower motor has failed. They are both under the passenger side. I'd try replacing whichever is cheaper, or returnable first.
