Sadly I believe this is a print-on-demand type amazon book -- and I've found the binding of such books breaks apart, and the cover curls up, long before we might expect or find acceptable. However, great review! I'm another human fascinated by the plethora of bible translations and the differences between them, including their physical "raiments".
Can you tell me what Luke 1:28 says? Does it go with the popular "greetings favored one" or with "hail full of grace"? The Orthodox services say "Rejoice, full of grace" and I'm very curious if they translated it in accordance with those.
I actually contacted the translater Rev. Laurent Cleenewerck about 4 years ago asking about the Old Testament translation from the LXX. He responded and said it was on a hiatus and wouldn't be out until 2018 he thought... I guess it's been cancelled by now :/
That's too bad. He contacted me about 12 years ago and asked permission to use material from my "Notes on the Septuagint" in the Old Testament of the EOB. I'd like to see that project completed.
@@MouseCheese2010 - thanks for the update. I'd like to see the Old Testament completed, especially since there are so few translations of the Greek OT into English. I also think the dependence of the NT on the Old is obscured when the OT is translated from the Hebrew. That's also true when the translation philosophies for the two testaments differ. An EOB OT fashioned from the LXX using a literal approach -- and which translates Greek words with the *same* English words used in the EOB NT (wherever the result isn't too awkward) -- would be a gem.
@Southern Violinist - I mispronounced "asterisk" in my latest video! I don't know modern Greek, and my Erasmian convention pronunciation is poor from lack of practice. I'm not surprised to learn I mispronounced Trisagion.

That's a good question, Hassan. As far as I've been able to learn, the Old Testament is in limbo. No progress has been made. If I recall correctly, there was some discussion of the Old Testament translation under Gengar's comment here.

Thanks for the questions, Yvonne! This New Testament was translated from the Patriarchal Text of 1904/12. That Greek text is very much in the Byzantine tradition. I don't know how to score reading level, but I think a 9th grader should be able to comprehend it.
The Orthodox Christians use the Holy Fathers interpretations of the New Testament to have a clear understanding and to be able to practice it correctly Like , Blessed Theophylact commentaries. Saint John Chrysostom, Saint Nikolai of velimirovich. Saint Cyril of Jerusalem. Venerable Bede. And so on.. In my opinion Saint Paisios of Mount Athos is the best representative of Orthodox Christianity. And there is the Orthodox Study Bible.
I bought the Kindle edition of this New Testament, and I plan on buying the physical copy at some point. I love it, and it's my primary New Testament translation at this point.

@@scyth2 The Kindle edition of the EOB is alright. I haven't used the Kindle edition in a while because I bought the paperback, but if I remember correctly, the Kindle edition has generally readable text, but some stuff gets a bit weird.

Thank you for the question. I don't hate the Orthodox Study Bible (OSB), and I apologize if my review gave that impression. I was (and still am) *deeply disappointed* that the OSB translates the Septuagint haphazardly. I have no real issue with the OSB's choice of the NKJV for its New Testament text, though I would have preferred it if the NKJV New Testament had been translated from one of the Majority Text editions rather than the Textus Receptus. But, again, that's a minor issue.

I can't guarantee that it will make a lot of sense, since RUclips doesn't do a very good job of captioning in English, but it's worth a try.
@@RGrantJones well one source said that there was a ton of disagreement for translation methods and equivilancy (though they could just make multiple) and others said it's just tradition to keep it in its original languages (like how the catholic church used latin up until the success of the KJV bible, where they then had to combat it by making the rheims bible)
as far as I'm concerned, there's really no point in buying this Bible. If the author is not going to produce an OT, then it's of no value-at least to me. I'll just stick to the RSV and the NRSV.

Where is the OT for this Bible? This looks like a good translation. Maybe they will publish this complete Bible?

There is an app in iphone based on this EOB bible. Very intuitive. Not an ebook. Its a complete app.
