Absolutely unbelievable. First time i'me hearing of this car. And just learned 5 minutes ago how hard it is ti get reliable power out of an air-cooled engine
You think! I don't know about that, considering all the factors involved. The big one being $1.8 Million price tag, starting with the 996 engine that Singer had success with that built the brand and opened the door for taking things further, especially with the talent that was available who were involved in Porsche's development of some of Porsche's the greatest race cars they built. I am pretty sure that Porsche would have achieved getting as much or more from the 993 platform had there been the need and there been any future left for the air cooled engine. Porsche had no choice than to change from air cooled due to the restrictions the geometry of the car, environmental regulations, and limits staying with air cooled was going to put on the development of their road cars. But all that aside, it is still quite an achievement for Singer and I do admire what Rob and his team created. Every time I watch a Singer video, I kick myself for selling my 77 911s that I had swapped the 2.7 for a 3.6 993 engine and had modified with updates and upgrades with a similar goal in mind. To even get a decent G body and find a 3.6 in good condition to build another car is next to impossible due to the insane prices of air cooled 911's now. The 3.6 was such a good engine, bulletproof, strong, and with room to increase power reliably.
They brought 2 to goodwood. The red one is their test car that they let the journalists thrash. Not a customer car. However the white one on display, is already sold.
I'm usually not so fond of Singers but this one I like. It seems entirely track-focused instead of the sometimes overloaded with bling "standard" Singers. The sound is otherworldly, reminiscent of the 991.2 RSR.
So you're at your midlife crisis, you've got almost $2m lying around. Your car collector buddies keep talking about priceless Ferraris, GT40's, and other time capsule cars and how they were race-bred and have heritage and yada yada yada. "Hey _____, which of those do like you like most?" Do you go and buy an F40? Naw, you've already commissioned a Singer.
1.8mil? I think not! I am a through and through Porsche enthusiast but that price is absurd! And they want to create 75 of them? How the hell do they come up with these prices anyways! I’d way rather purchase a 918 then this!
Giancarlo Eiras i saw it at goodwood and when you look up close at it everything is perfect and all the materials are amazingly high quality plus it apparently takes a few months to make the car, i’d say £1.8 million is a little high but understandable considering the work thats gone into it
Nice car... way way over price.. not too sure about different color wheels on each side... Been a Porsche owner .. at a young age had many many Porsches..so nice .. but still do not see that kind of money in this Porsche
it's not a Porsche any more...it is a Singer...handmade one of a kind. If you look hard enough you'll find the info what this car and the motor is all about and why it has that price tag
Don’t butcher me but I’d much rather have multiple rwb Porsche cars than 1 1.8 million dollar singer Porsche. I respect both equally tho and i love the detail
i find it troubling that a 2 million dollar car cant get off the line with out stalling ...... its obvious theirs a fundamental problem with the car ...... on the other hand it looks gorgeous but i would take the white one please n thank you
Just has a multi-plate clutch with an extremely light single-mass flywheel. It's not easy to launch cars with that setup unless you just dump the clutch, but I assume that the setup in this thing isn't cheap, hence why they're treating it gentle.
1.8 million dollars! Fuck, i wish i were rich. I'd drive the fucking piss out of that thing. Most will wind up in the garages of bastards who will never drive it and think of it as an investment. I'd have that thing screaming at 9k on the track as much as possible.
A beautiful car for sure, but i'm having a really hard time figuring out why they are so expensive and why old air cooled porsches have gone so far up in value? Anyone want to chime in? O_o So bizarre. I mean really, this makes no sense. The amount of car you could buy for that, let alone multiple exotics, I mean you've really got to be crazy to spend this kind of money on some basic porsche no? And yeah, I know Singer does a lot of refurbishing work to the cars, still $1.8 million?! I mean come on you could get into a Koenigsegg or a Zonda for this money.
youtubasoarus it is absurd money. But they build almost a new car. At least on the other “cheaper” Singer builds I’ve seen, even the rear fender panels were replaced with carbon fiber. Then the suspension, brakes, everything else is replaced with newer upgraded components with some parts taken from race cars. So it may look sort of stock, but underneath it’s a bit more hypercar than old classic. And as much as I love the Zonda, I can also see the appeal of something with more classic understated looks. But all that goes away as soon as you start it up. So it’s hard to say this would be a more discrete form of transport. It’s a bit of a contradiction. Despite that I bet they sell every last one before they can finish building them.
youtubasoarus I think its deep into the realm of insanity. But you can say the same about all hypercars. The difference from a race car is that after they build a race car then they continue to build a luxurious and maybe even comfortable car on top of that. Race cars do not typically have the fit and finish of something like this. So thats part of it. The rarity and thrill of having a bespoke car like this means you can pretty much name your price. Im just theorizing the thought process of the uber rich people buying these. For me a plain old simple GT3 is all the car I need in the world.
Well if you look at something like a Koenigsegg or a Zonda they are using 100% carbon fiber everything, top shelf parts, custom parts (CNC'd 1 offs), top grade leathers, etc. This car doesn't even have that much power, I think there's some sort of fuckery going on in this market (ie. tax sheltering?). Doesn't make even a lick of sense comparatively speaking. For sure it's in the realm of the rich only, or more clearly the more money than sense club. And yeah the GT3 is only 350k+ the GT2 is 500k for fuck sakes that's like a 3rd the price. These people are on another planet with this shit. But as has been said before, a fool and his money are soon parted. People are free to pay what they wish. It's just mind boggling is all.
youtubasoarus not sure what currency we’re talking but a GT3 is under $200k US with some 991.1s closer to $120k. And it’s a hell of a car. So you and I are pondering the question of value in a luxury item that’s 10x beyond what at least I could afford. They’re just opinions. It’s not a gallon of milk. This sort of thing is arbitrary.. Have you seen the detailed photos? Much better than this car which may have been a prototype or press car. I will say that considering the Williams F1 engine, great looks and bespoke CNC parts.... this is not just a classic air cooled 911. Far from it. And if I did have $100 million in the bank I’d buy one of these in a heartbeat. It is absolutely a hypercar. It’s disguised as a classic. So we’re just pondering why hypercars cost as much as they do. I think the answer is “because they can”. Because some people are that rich. And I’m actually glad for that because if that was not the case, these cars wouldn’t exist and the world would be slightly less interesting without them. I’d be surprised if they don’t sell out.
Every single inch of this car is refined and re-engineered. It's not just a 964 with a fancy engine. Singer worked with Williams developing this version.
@@IamShrimple yes I understand that I had my first 911 when I was sixteen so I do know 911.. still 2 911 ..944 928..and honestly I would really have to drive it to see if it's worth a million it and I would tell you I know the test..
Probably their first time having to change gears themselves, too used to all the slushboxes and paddles these days. No clutch control and no feel for what gear they are in or what gear they are choosing without looking.
Considering it was Chris Harris at the wheel, a very good motoring journalist, its probably the car not the driver. The clutch is probably a bit grabby
Ok, 600-800k was already much for a singer in my opinion but let's say, you get carried away with modifications etc. But 1.8mil wtf, way way way overpriced. I just cannot see where that money went, even if they made the whole chassis out of fucking platinum .
He does not know what he's talking about. A cursory glance at the title could have slapped some sense into him. It's a 500hp 2K plus pound mad man built around a gen 964 Porsche 911.
Faster, sure. But it's not about speed. A 2018 Camry is faster than almost every car from 20 years ago. It's about the quality of the driving experience. Are classics meant to be daily drivers? No. They're uncomfortable and inconvenient in normal traffic. But I would damn sure rather be driving a 964 on the weekend over a mini van.

😂😂😂
Amazing car, and I love your pun. But $1.8 million makes this car, not the perfect car
This might be the best sounding car I've ever heard
Getting 500 horsepower out of a naturally aspirated air-cooled 6 cylinder engine is amazing.
Absolutely unbelievable. First time i'me hearing of this car. And just learned 5 minutes ago how hard it is ti get reliable power out of an air-cooled engine
And keeping the weight under 1000kg !!

Having that bozo not ruin the clutch in 1300 feet is a feat in and of itself. Bravo
I can't find the perfect word to describe the sound...God, it's aggressively melodic! 😍😍😍
Looks like Van Halen's guitar.
Looks like Van Halen's car.
Looks like Parker's (Vehicle Virgins) Lambo wrap, also inspired by Van Halen.
Amaze-balls car. I hope the driver someday catches up to the potential of the car.
I bet its a pain in the ass to drive.
You can hear the engine is very well built
That flywheel must be light as a feather. Listen to those revs😍😍
Good ear. The revs drop really fast
That’s the best sounding Porsche I’ve ever heard
Such a great looking Porsche I love how Porsche really hasn’t changed for the last 70 years or so
what a sound !!!! great video!
Sounds amazing on throttle lift off
This and the current RSR are the best sounding 911s ever
Love how the wheels change colour, great new innovation
What a beautiful car, and that sound !
I'll take one please :)
It makes a '73 Carrera RS 2.7 seem cheap at over a million dollars _less_ expensive.
So there's that.
This is a different type of car altogether
I think i found my new favorite sounding porsche :D
Love the car ever since top gear showed it in depth. I would change the exterior colors of this one
gonna have to place a strong disagree regarding color
Its a prototype

Either a very grabby clutch or very long first gear
Naufal Kusumah An edgy combo of the 2 😄
both plus 9k rpm
Also a light flywheel
Probably not a ‘’driver’’ driving
And a VERY light weight flywheel....
This colour does not make the car justice.. What a car and what a sound !

Singer makes the fastest Porsches in the UK
This should've been the modern 911

Sounds almost as good as a 4rotor.
problem with the gear changing or clutch..?

Why do they call it a 964? Isnt it based on the first gen 911?
911’s all have different model no’s this is a 964 chassis underneath.
I LOVE BOZZY'S POSTS...DOES HE DO ANY FULL RACES WITH NO ANNOUNCERS?

Dumb question: can you swap it into a 964?
It is a 964
It does seem like it needs a steeper first gear. Why not, it has steamroller tires and revs to 9000.
