As always, thanks Brian for unbiased product reviews. I’ve waited too long but I just purchased some products from your store. It’s my way of saying thank you for all the videos. You were instrumental with my journey to be a fly fisherman. Oh and I picked up this indicator along with some early Christmas goodies for myself and friends. Oh and PS, for those who’s been on the fence for purchasing from madriver, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the competitive pricing and free shipping over $50. Keep it like butter Brian and crew. Cool bobber , it looks like it works like a foam airlock but instead of the nut the other half is the nut . So now when you drop it it won’t sink like the nut on the airlock , just half of the bobber will float away. At least that gives us a fighting chance to save the day . I like it %-)
Being an inventor, artist and stuff and not easy to please, I started out watching with a normal sceptic mind. But these things actually seem to be someting, that I would have liked to have designed. Thumbs up.!
Looks like a great idea. Just ordered a few as a stocking stuffer for myself and my son!! I’m not a huge fan of indicator fishing, but sometimes you just gotta do it!! Another great video.
these are my favourite type of trout fishing videos i have learned a lot from your videos as I am young and have much to learn lately I caught a nice brook trout while targeting bass!!
Hey there! Do I use these when fishing with nymphs? And also when using “wet” flys can these also be used? New to the sport so I appreciate and tips you can share! Thanks
Just bought some from you guys last week. Great design. Used them once already. One thing about them, make sure the leader stays in the slot when you are screwing the two halves together. You can lose sight of it sitting in the slot as you screw the other half on. Mine popped out and it came off after a few casts because of that. I was able to catch it before it floated down steam. Other than that it worked great.
I've always been a fan of these screw on type indicators for ease of use. During the Covid lockdown air-locks became very scarce at my local fly shop so I designed and 3d printed something similar which has worked incredibly well; I look forward to testing them against these, thanks!
I just recently bought a few of these to try. I had stopped into a newer flyshop that i hadnt ever been in and they had a container beside the register and the guy said that he had had alot of positive feedback on them. So I bought 4 of them and game my 13 yr old son 1 of them so we could try them. Unfortunately i haven't had the opportunity to yet.
Nice, going to have to pick some up.. I have a question. I know how to use an indicator for nymph fishing. But do you have recommendations for indicators while dry fly fishing? My eyes are going so I can't always see the dry. And where would you place the indicator for a dry fly?
Thanks for watching. Indicators are typically not used for dry flies as the fish taking the dry won't really move the indicator in most cases. Feel free to call the folks at the shop though anytime with questions.
Think I’m going to have to get me some. I’ve been having an issue with thingamabobbers sliding down my leader when I have them further from the butt section and having to constantly readjust them. This looks like a good design.
Try out the Jaydacator from Truckee, California! Also centered, but two-toned from top to bottom which helps you determine if your flies are up or downstream of the indicator. Great vid.
Curious- how loud/heavy are these when they hit the water? Part of the reason I use yarn is due to how delicate it is, but might try out and switch if these are less clunky than traditional plastic indicators. Thanks for all of the tremendous content as always!
I’ve started to rely on posts on bobbers like on the drift-rite to indicate (by going vertical) a good drift on rivers or to indicate (by laying down) that my balanced leech is not on the bottom or on algal muck in lakes. Could a post be installed to do the same on these?
@@GregLumpkin what’s the difference between nymphs and wet flys? Are they both fished the same? Just different presentation? Thanks for your help! I won’t bug ya with anything else haha
Hello and a very Merry Christmas from here in the UK, Can I ask you about those amazing strike indicators I have emailed the company direct to enquire if they were available anywhere in the UK but sadly I have had no response, so Brian can I ask how much it would cost buy and ship from you to the UK . Kindest regards Peter
What about my old shoes? They seem to work well as strike indicators up here in 🇨🇦 actually think they attract the fish better because of the smell...lol but seriously I'll be asking 🎅 for some of those indicators for Christmas..
A strike indicator typically goes on the butt section of the leader. NOT at all on the fly line. Feel free to call the shop if you have any further questions. Thanks.
Take my money! This is precisely what I need. Making my order now, thanks! Tired of kinked leaders and fumbling with tiny nuts (no jokes please). Signed up for the notification when back in stock, thanks.
I would also like to say that the potential for line tangles is less since there isn't a nut protruding to wrap around, especially when using droppers.
Have you had a problem with these loosening up over time? I have and I think an o-ring like the airlocks use would help. I’ve added the o-ring from my old airlocks but haven’t fished with it yet. The threads appear too short once you add the o-ring so hopefully it has enough bite to stay on.
You’d have to check with the folks at the shop on that. We don’t have that kind of information here. Feel free to call or email and they will be happy to help. Thanks.

New to the fly fishing sport and simply the best product I have used in the field to date. EASY to place and take off a leader.

Have them. After 4 days of use at pyramid lake the foam detached from the screw piece.
Give us a call at the shop and we'll be happy to replace them for you. There were a few bad batches in the first round.
It's a great concept this Oros clamshell idea but I agree that they're not durable enough. Way pricey for what they are.

Hi Bryan. You would recommend these indicators for French nymphing?
Thanks for being here Shaun but you'll have to check with Brian directly. He can be reached by phone or by e-mail at the shop.
Could these be used for mono or braided line by not tightening them as much so they work as a slip bobber?
Not sure about that. Maybe call the shop and talk to them about it?

Still haven’t tried these, mainly because they don’t carry them near me. but heard they tend to slip down leaders.
Pick some up here:

If applied properly, they do not slide at all.

Would you be able to post the actual weight difference between a 3/4" Thingamabobber and one of these?
You'd have to check with the shop on that. Feel free to call or e-mail.
Stocking stuffer. Gonna have to get myself some too.

New to FF, when you say 4x and greater, does that refer to larger tippet size... 3x or 2x etc or am I backwards on that?
That is correct. 4X or thicker.

super cool design

Do you guys ship to Canada from your website ?
Yes, we do. www.madriveroutfitters.com/t-shipping.aspx

How does it prevent sliding? Or does it still slide a little?
Doesn't slide.....at all.

Very nice but probably not the best for long leader chronimid fishing without the quick release.

wouldnt work for stillwater lake fishing. it has no quick release. could be left with 15 foot leader to land a fish
