To clarify this is the best indicator I have ever used for fishing a wide range of weights where I primarily guide (San Juan River).Remember there is no wrong or right indicator, what works for you on your fishery per situation is the best.

Tons of hype but imo they’re 20 ish % better than air locks, bro science. For that reason I switched.

Best indicator Ive ever used. Wet fingers are the best way to handle them. No slippage problem for me even on 6x. Casts way better than any other except maybe wool.
Thanks for the review, James. One suggestion: rather than tying a knot to serve as a bobber stop, you might want to try uni-knotting some 3x (or so) tippet onto your leader.and trimming off the tags. What remains is an adjustable bobber stop.
ie a barrel knot.

I've bought a dozen of them. I dont use any of them anymore. They dont hold onto anything smaller than, and including 4x. I've gone back to white airlocks. I put a couple red lines around them. Also the airlocks little tip points to where my flies are in the water. So there is that nobody talks about.
I tried them this past week and they fish well for me. I also feel like the small size is all you need for how much they can haul. But at far distances I would go medium just cuz visibility. Good product great video!
Absolutely. The medium hasn’t been used except one time. Small can carry a massive weight load. Unless I’m dredging lead in choppy water small is what I fish.
Thanks again for sharing. I think many of your viewers, including me, we like to see a video about how you use split shot. On the surface, it seems simple- just pinch some on. But in reality, it seems there's a lot more to it i.e. where do you place it, how much weight, placing multiped split shot, etc. I'm sure it changes depending on different conditions. Anyway, just a thought. Thanks again.
Dave just a few thoughts on split shot. Most shot crimps your tippet but there are some that do not. I believe water gremlin make shot that doesn't. Placement depends on how many flies you are using, water flow and speed and of course depth. I have been using a technique recently on places like the Frying Pan, Taylor and Blue rivers in Colorado in which I use a two Mysis shrimp rig and tie some 7x tippet about 6 inches or so to the bend of the bottom fly, then I tie a knot at the bottom of this piece and crimp my shot to it and slide it down to the knot. This way I don't crimp my tippet material and the fish do not mind at all. If I use the shot that doesn't crimp your line, then I use a tippet ring on my leader, tie my tippet to it and place the shot above the tippet ring I then tie a small piece of rubber bad above the tippet ring as a cushion to keep the shot from hitting the leader knot on the ring. Hope this helps

Also, thanks for the mention of fullingmill hooks in a tie video. Took advantage of their clearance after Christmas to stock up. I let them know you gave them a mention so hope that panned out in some way.
But what I really would like a video on, or at least a mention (unless you did this already and I missed it or didn't make the connection) of how you ended up in the ER fishing with HUGE Fly Fisherman Ben Sittig (caught that on one of his older videos).

Thanks for the kind words. I ended up in the hospital because I picked up a stump so we could stage a shot. When I dropped the stump I had a 3/4 in splinter get driven into my hand that I could get out. Haha good times.
I like orange and white also. Best thing is that it is inline not dangling on the side of the tippet.
I saw yours and one other review of the OROS and was sold. I have generally used the thing ma bobber but I don’t like that the line is off centre when using it, and it’s susceptible to tangling. I just ordered 8 small, 8 medium and 2 large indicators, half orange and half pink. I can’t wait for my next fishing outing to try them out.
I’ve moved to Corqs now. They’re brittle and can break but sensitive and work well.

Been fishing these a bout month also. They’re great overall. Couple issues I’ve noticed- over time the tippet starts to tear into the foam, especially if your running heavier nymphs. Only the top half of the indicator is exposed on the water (less visibility at further distance but not deal breaker). A half hitch before I tighten it down takes care of the sliding for me

In my experience, I’ve hard a hard time seeing the small oros indicators as well as my usual airlocks and Dorsey style indicators. I don’t know if it’s because they sit lower in the film or what. I’ve settled on the Dorsey yarn indicators here lately

Sounds like the hype is real lol. I like that’s it inline with the leader and the part you mentioned about it rolling when it’s set to depth.
I will say that it sitting inline has really cut down on “cut off re-ties”
Respectfully disagree. The OROs indicators are the second coming of Izaak Walton. I used them once and they removed all the plaque from my teeth (there was a lot), cured my alcoholism (there was a lot), and they hold up the live minners real well.

Let’s be real most people fly fishing are using them as bobbers not “indicators”
Having years of Air lock experience including the new biodegradable I have to say I have only dropped one cap due to frozen fingers LOL However I can see the new OROs admits to having a slippage problem with 5x and below which is easily solved. Take the rubber washer from an airlock and put it over the screw portion of the hardware and Bingo no more problem. I am sure Airlock experienced the same problem in product development and solved it with the washer. Plan B is go to Lowes or your local hardware stores and buy a pack of small O ring type washers which dont have to be a perfect fit and use one of those. These small soft washers will grip the line and prevent any slippage and you wont have to tighten down as much and risk breaking the hardware lose from the foam as OROs admits is happening with the large version. They have asked fly shops to stop selling while they work on a fix. Another solution is to cut a piece of rubber band and simply put it in the groove of the post. I am sure other anglers will come up with more work arounds and I anticipate OROs themselves will come out with a washer version in the near future. Tight lines!!
about a week after i got one the nut piece fell off of the foam and I had to glue it back on. then a few weeks after I was casting and it fell off. maybe it was just the particular one I got that was messed up, but so far I like airlock better

In testing I could never get the Oros to turn over like you said, It makes sense what you said kinda...here is what I found; The side of the Oros with the line going to my flies IF my flies were sufficiently heavy enough to go down and stay roughly below my Oros (depends on water speed too, faster water needs heavier flies to have them roughly directly beneath the oros) I found that when I had two perdis with 3mm beads the SMALL oros would turn so that the tippet went down towards the flies. What I did with that was took a red permanent marker and made a few dots or markings that i could see at ~30feet distance as soon as those hemisphere lines, or dots were visible I knew my flies were at depth. However if my flies were not sufficiently heave enough, or of the Oros was the medium or larger size I couldn't get it to spin, and the water would do with it and my flies whatever it wanted. With the Air Locks the little nut would face my flies at the same weights, again depending on water depth. The issues I have is that I'm new to fly fishing so my knots are good or "shit there goes my whole rig..." strong. So spending 20 minutes to tie a bloodknot (yes I'm slow, especially in the cold) is just adding another question mark to the question "is my rig going to break at the knot when I catch a fish, or snag the bottom or a tree" because that happens every time I go fishing. 2 weeks ago I lost 8 or 12 flies just casting because my knots would break. Hey we were all beginners at some point =)

Used the small yesterday for the first time. Worked great 4-5 fish. Began to slip and had to be retightened. Later it came unscrewed and half was lost in the river. Ok to use but the hype is certainly big time…
Fished one of these in below freezing conditions and the indicator froze up, couldn't loosen it to change depth. And there's nothing to hold onto for leverage when loosening or tightening. The type of indicators that have the screw fastener sticking out of the side are much easier to tighten/loosen. This one will probably work better in warmer weather.
Definitely agree with the ease of tightening/loosening. I’ve only had it out a few times in sub freezing temps and I definitely noticed that.

I've had oros slip on the leader. I''ve wrapped the leader around the Oros threaded post, one turn. That seems to eliminates slipping. Your thoughts?

Does the same company make Oros indicators and airlock indicators? It seems like a very similar design, just improved (using a hemisphere of the indicator instead of a tiny nut to secure the leader). If they are separate companies then I would think the airlock people would be pretty grumpy right now.

💯. For what I have been guiding recently, heavy, deep, smallish hooks, they’re great. There’s no wrong or right indicator there’s just what works for you. Definitely want to try a jay dictator, my guide buddy in Cali swears by them and I love tapered indicators that “point” to the rig.

What we need is an indicator like this that will provide less of a disturbance to the water surface. Similar to a yarn indicator but not.....
For sure, different indicators for different situations. I run different ones depending on conditions.
Man, I don't know why so many people seem unaware of new zealand yarn. Buoyant, casts like a dream, lands delicate, such limited drag. I suppose if you're fishing 10ft down with an ounce of shot it would be a bit tricky, but for 90% of applications it works beautifully.

They’re back. Although it seems like this new release gets waterlogged and doesn’t support as diverse as a weight load.
I’ll stick with air locks after trying them for a day. Great idea but actually makes distance casting rigs more difficult as your casting the weight of the indicator more so then with air locks that are offset. The center of mass on the line actually makes it more difficult to turn things over and feel the true weight of your rig and weights.. airlocks are superior still IMO.

@@AboutTrout have you fished them with new folks off a boat yet? Seems like they have some of the same issues unless they open up their cast more as well when compared to fishing airlocks… what I’ve seen from the boat with newer folks.
@@corydantonio5192 I’ve found they’ve actually tangled way less. Biggest reason I’ve switched. I’ve only been using them from the boat it’s been all float trips for me since December.

Started using them a month ago and I like them so far. I agree with everything that you said except that they are not biodegradable like the air locks. That is misinformation that I have heard a lot

I'm cheap. I bought a huge pack of sticky backed foam sheets at Walmart years ago I still use😂 honestly works really well for me, and way cheaper. I'm still going to try these next time I see them
Tried oros, 2 fly rig with 1 or 2 BB weights. Oros slides down the Leader with every hook set no matter how hard you crank it on. Overhyped ? You bet

Companies are going back in time with these oros monstrosity of indicators they seems to me like golf balls. I preferred the NZ or yarns indicators. These oros indicators are more for the elderly cause they might have difficulty seeing the indicators . I also preferred the leader going through the bottom of the indicator for sensitivity and also leader going through the bottom then you would be able to use a smaller indicator as for example the thingamabobber. But leader going through the middle is a waste of indicator material.😂😂😂 everyone keep your money not listen to the hype 😮😮😮

Let me tell you one thing. A lot of guides aren’t really good fisherman. Where I live I could out fish any guide 10 days of the week. I understand you think your review is valid but at the end of the day it’s just bobber fishing and and average fishermen can do it with the worst indicators out there. Overpriced trash
