Season 1
Episode 15
Attractive but treacherous Louise Douglas convinces her husband (a bank messenger) to steal $53,000 and flee the country with her. She also convinces her paramour (a truck driver) to assault her husband and take the money so that HE can flee the country with her. Dan Mathews' suspicions are aroused by Ms. Douglas' lack of genuine concern for her unconscious husband and he launches an all-out effort to apprehend her. Aware that she is being pursued, the scheming Louise deserts the truck driver at her first opportunity and is able to steal a car from yet another would-be romantic interest in a bold attempt to elude Dan's unrelenting pursuit. Written by Sam Spear
Brod. Crawford was certainly a very rapid talker, but I can still understand every word he says, LOL!
Yeah he sounds wired up.
Stone cold alcoholic, and never slurred his words. Notice that Brodrick Crawford and Jackie Gleason had the same build, walk and facial expression.
I am newly obsessed with this show.
Highway Patrol had some great classic cars, as well as very attractive ladies, on their episodes.
This is the first time I'd seen this episode.
At 7:49;
"By tomorrow, I'm going to be the most sought-after girl in this town!"
Honey, with that figure, I'd say that you've already got the nomination sewed up!
Yeah she got everthang, I hope she had time to pack her unmentioneables
@@cartermcafee1142 I hope she did forget. Nothing like going commando!
You got that right
It was a kick to see the old Saugus Cafe featured in this episode. The place is still in business, though with the pandemic wreaking havoc on business it's hanging on by a thread.
But it indeed is worth destroying such an old business in the face of a virus so deadly that 99.7% of those who get sick survive with no problem.
Mask up, wear the whole box, to hell with just two masks.
@@ИгорьИжщенков , thanks for the perspective from Moscow, comrade.
That’s unbelievable
@@ИгорьИжщенков I call BS. The .3 percent that die is 30 times higher than the fatality rate of seasonal flu.
Remember it so well. My favorite aunt and uncle had a cabin about 10 miles from Saugus (long before they named the area Santa Clarita) We always got off I-5 and took San Fernando Rd thru Newhall and Saugus rather than staying on the interstate and exiting at Valencia. Last was there in 1989. I miss those days and those visits from the mid 1960s to the mid 1980s.
Pretty cool, the Buicks Century getting sideways in the opening of the episode, nice!!!
Great episode and solid performances here. I enjoyed the location used in Newhall and Saugus. Jeanne Cooper nails this.
Yes she did
$ 53,000 in 1956 equals $ 524,000 in 2021.
@Brian Salomon As of today 2/27/23 $53,000 is worth $586,949.
More than enough for competent psychiatric analysis
@@Brotherken1234 Even then with the prices today you can buy one house or 3 cars and a mobile home.

Lol
Very nice Ford convertible, '54 first year for OHV "Y" block V8, the old flathead finally went away. The gal's a bit "rough," but I reckon Jean was still considered a "looker" in her day. Yes, that old I-H "Cornfield Cadillac" would've been rong truck to put perishable goods in. Green Mercury convertible? If only these films had been colorized!
You would think the guy would take the keys with him when he left the car at a gas station if he thought she was a crook
Yea! I thought the same thing 🤔
Nope. Dude was expecting
to Get some Action...! He be thinkin' with the Wrong Head! 🥰😋
Some of those cars had ignition switches that would start without a key. You could use a key to lock the ignition if you needed.
16:555 .. Saugus Cafe still there at 25861 Railroad Ave, Santa Clarita. Saugus Cafe, Los Angeles County’s oldest restaurant, actually began life as the even more aptly-named Saugus Eating House, and was attached to a bustling train depot as part of the greater Southern Pacific rail network. The restaurant debuted in 1886 as part of a flurry of new growth for the greater valley, spurred on by the opening of the San Fernando train tunnel nearby. The Southern Pacific rail line connection between San Francisco and Los Angeles meant necessary stops at places like Newhall, giving diners a chance to jump off for a bite at the cafe.
Driving those old Buicks aggressively like that with skinny bias ply tires, no seatbelts, no airbags etc. took more bravery than engaging in a gunfight.
Many of those old large "barges" rode nicely, but "wallowed" like beached whales if you pushed them really hard because they were too softly spung. Not sure when 1st "Interceptor" police packages became available. Stiffer suspensions, high compression/output engines, & beefier trans with high speed rear ends.
Píĵĥĥ oh ĥjmmm we
There was no heavy traffic in those days therefore no need for not even defensive driving.
If there were three cars on the block, it was either a wedding or a funeral.
@@a.leemorrisjr.9255Chrysler enforcer package 1960.
Those old Buicks were built like Sherman Tanks. If you hit something going 55 the car wouldn’t come apart. Seat belt’s weren’t even thought of for another 15-16 years.
The Saugus Cafe is still there too. They also pass the former Saugus Speedway on Soledad Canyon Road (former State 7 / US 6) after leaving the Saugus Cafe.
I been watching highway patrol every since I was a kid.
DAMN!!!!!
From 01:05 to 01:11 the only reckless driver I saw was that State Trooper fish-tailing his car like a drunken high school boy doing donuts in the parking lot.
Reminded me of the fish tailing police car you used to see on the opening credits for Hill St Blues. Maybe he was drunk. There was a season where Broderick Crawford couldn't drive because his licence had been yanked for driving drunk.
@@kevinlevin3479
Yes, Crawford was a hardcore alcoholic. He embarrassed the producers of the show several times for being arrested for DUI while portraying a cop on a show that was very popular at that time and his arrests made the news due to his and the show’s fame.
Crawfords lips are dry and chapped from heavy alcohol
BC was a heavy drinker. He would bribe crew members to smuggle booze on the set. Many times he was boiled by noon and shooting would have to be suspended for the day.
The guy is in a trance and you hope he awakens....BUT YOU GIVE HIM A SEDATIVE????
But only 5 cc’s!
Dr. Feelgood
Sure a lot of hot women in all these episodes!
Thanks much for good quality copies..
kathrine chancellor from young and the restless had no idea she turned bad. haha
People never took a dump on the Cali sidewalks in those days.
The best cop show ever, Broderick aka Dan did a great job as a tough cop, Blue Lives Matter period.
Best cop show ever is of course Dragnet....and there's nobody cooler or more bad ass than Sgt. Joe Friday, greatest tv cop ever !
The best tv cop show by FAR is Dragnet....and nobody is cooler or more bad ass than Sgt. Joe Friday....best tv show cop EVER !!!!!! Joe Friday would have punk slapped and wiped the floor with Dan Mathews.....Broderick Crawford was known by the real California Highway Patrol as "old 502" - which is their code for drunk driving (maybe he did the stunt driving for the car at the beginning of the episode)
@@ITILII But still a decent cop show with a different approach.
What a great show
MRS MATTHEWS: HI honey, did you have a nice day?
MATTHEWS: No. I didn't get to shoot anybody all day.

Are you kidding??? Oh my GOSH soo WONDER FUL....i want 2go see it it ..!!
good food and it has a bar in the back. Maybe that's why Broderick Crawford liked it.
Will look it up next time going to Los Angeles..
Great Cars and actors
A bank messenger carrying $53,000 in cash and he's driving a convertible? A hard top would offer more protection? That's a huge make up kit she's got. Takes a lot of goop and stuff to spiffy up her face? Oh, and Matthews couldn't get the hinges back on and almost dropped the fake money all over the side of the road. Nice try, lady bandit, better luck next time, that is after you get out of jail if you do after being an accomplish to two murders. Some women are just awful. Use 'em and lose 'em, ditch the guy after she got what she wanted from him.

You would think they could have found more realistic looking bills, instead of Monopoly money
Everything happens at that same gas station in all the HP episodes.

No, that was actor Don Kelly who played Paul. Liam Nessen was only three years old when this episode was filmed.
The trucking company managers jacket...Kramer would love it
my dad was a cop back then. he would watch part of the show with me, start laughing uncontrollably, then send me to my room
ZIV films produced the show Dragnet and Sea Hunt also.
I used to sit by the radio for hours for my favorite song to play. These guys on TV turn on the radio and the news is all about them. Just like Gilligan's island radio. Amazing!

I enjoy watching these old Highway Patrol shows. Love the cars from that time period!
Also had some very attractive criminal women :-)
Cars are hot but the gals are even hotter....like this one, as evil as she is sexy....what a woman :-)
The cars from that time were so very beautiful and a very very smooth ride.
All of my great uncles were Long shoremen and their used cars rode beautiful.
She starred on The Young and the Restless. She was the mother of the actor Corbin Bernsen (LA Law)
Catherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) was a very rich and strong woman on Y&R. Weird to see her this young.🥰
