Been following Justin King's tunes for quite some time now. Amazing stuff. Lots of soul in his lyrics and chords in other songs as well. Love the power and emotion I feel when listening to his stuff. Rock on man. Also a big fan of Change. Thanks for the music! Hope there's more to come.
I'm 64 and been playing for years. I'm not sure if this inspires me or time to just pack it in. I love his style nice to see someone think outside of the box :) Peace
Man I remember being 13 years old and watching this. I wanted to play every note he played. And here I am so many years later still amazed. You were a big part of my childhood and you didn't even know it bud. You're amazing.
It's so crazy that this is probably his easiest piece, and its still hard as balls to learn. Super technical yet beautiful and emotional, what an amazing musician.
Have been coming back to this ever since my brother showed me a clip at NAMM probably 15 years ago. Absolutely amazing stuff. If you want a more modern take checkout Tim Henson. Not exactly the same idea and he's extremely popular and not the same niche as Justin King. But his use of harmonics is similarly jaw dropping. I don't even know how to label these types of guitarists. Like fingerstyle but with a lot of percussion. It's the coolest thing though.
I feel bad sometimes for Justin... dude was pretty much there back in the late 90's early 00's with this style of percussive guitar playing that was still very fresh and new, but so many people have taken that style and gotten more attention for it... and even other people covering his songs and still get more views than the original.
OK who are the idiots who voted thumbs down because this music is more inspirational Compared to most acoustic music I hear, I've been learning this style for 4 - 5 months now and I've almost masted this song "Knock on Wood"!! I have also completely mastered 2 Tobias Rauscher songs "Memories versions 1 & 2" and "Still Awake" plus 2 Andy McKee songs "Drifting" and "Heather's Song"
i'm not sure if it has an official name. some call it fingerstyle, i've called some of the styles two handed tapping and percussive drumming. t-cophony is a great example of the two handed tapping he has a few percussive drumming peices such as the season, stone (cpx demonstration), festival in the distance, ect. and antoine dufour these moments makes great use of the percussive drumming, as well as drifting by andy mckee
@zacharyhoyt I find that a good way to get your hammerons a lot louder is to simply play the rest of the piece quieter and really exaggerate the dynamics.
@Gitbox56 get the parts for each hand down separately, then slowly, by continuously watching these vids over and over, put em together (how i learned it!) the trick to the right hand: close your fist almost fully, just so thumb can rest on pinky nail. then drag thumb across the other nails. give it a bit more flick, and there you go. hope that helped!
@HandiAce this isn't a cover! it is Justin himself!:) and he mutes the strings with his left and strums that percussive sound (very quickly) at that part. took some time to get!
@FlipHatesCheese nope, he doesn't upload to youtube (except for a few videos on dresmandrew's account when he was with the band) but he does have an account and comments on the vids every once in a while

this is not his easiest piece
Phunkidifed is easier for me. Left and right hand doing completely different parts is confusing

why does he look like a school teacher who brought his guitar in as a treat for the students
Mughal that is only for you
He looks like he hates his students and is letting off steam in the teacher's lounge after school.

Is there any tutorial for this play?
ruclips.net/video/hBWT1ffcp5k/видео.html
very interesting!!
Have you heard of the Canadian Fingerstyle Competition?
Have you ever heard of Newton Faulkner? He has a similar style of playing
damn this is good!!!!!
@FlipHatesCheese nope, he doesn't upload to youtube (except for a few videos on dresmandrew's account when he was with the band) but he does have an account and comments on the vids every once in a while
Zappa called it "stunt guitar". Pretty much. I It's very cool. Like, close magic, but on guitar. Like the X-Games, but with guitar.
Your a good guitarist!
dude is sick
Go to a website called "soundslice" and play the video with the 'half speed' function.
@CStanza420 And Michael Hedges who really more or less invented this style.
it is Justin King genre... tapping guitar...inspired by Celtic and other nations
upload your video playing this,i'll believe you
굳
I agree.
reminds me of john bulter.
