I think my major gripe with this game is the fact that it treats it like an adaptation of a “game” world and not a fantasy world. Which makes the worldbuilding feel not as interesting as something like Minecraft Dungeons, or Legends.

My favorite part was when Jesse said: “we are mining and crafting… in story mode” and then proceeded to mine the wither storm. Truly the spin-off of all time.
I cried when Jesse said: "This is my story, my story mode, my Minecraft Story Mode™" and then proceeded to beat the shit out of the wither.
But technically that happened in episode 4?
then, when he/she said: "This Story mode is now Minecrafted." and then proceeded to build a giant cock&balls out of the remains of the wither storm, thats when i found out that i was truly playing...

To be honest I actually have a soft spot for this game, I get many people hated it because the whole point of minecraft was to make your own story but sometimes I liked the idea of a plot especially one associated with a franchise I was already familiar with.

This game actually kind of changed me lmao, I was back in like 2nd grade and I liked the story and how it took liberties over the base game. I liked it so much back then I started making my own kind of "comic" about minecraft with my friends, it was self-inserts and I put a bunch of characters from the media I liked (cartoons, games, etc). By making this I actually started to like drawing and now I am going through the path of being an artist! I know it's really weird but yeah, wanted to share my story. I ALSO FELT SO SAD WHEN REUBEN DIED THAT I TURNED THE TV OFF INMEDIATELY

well the fact that you choose what happens in the game that semi gamechanges the story is pretty cool,
cant argue about that. and the fucking soundtrack brings me back. not to mention it was what brought me into animation, 5 years later im uploading unfinished roblox animations because my pc cannot handle more complex characters.
Minecraft Story Mode will always be one of my favorite games.
Despite the flaws, it’s still a beautiful piece of art I admire and grateful for existing.

I loved this game as a kid. I didn’t have it on my device because it costed money, but for the small time it was on Netflix of all sites, I played it and finished it about 8 times. I just loved it so much.

Popped up while I was rewatching RTGame's stream of the game. The fact that he could predict every trope before it even happened was insane (also, the fact that he rewound the game to kill Magnus was amazing).
My favorite playthrough of this was Technoblade’s (rip) because he just did not care about what was happening and was actively trying to kill like half the characters

You should check out Season 2 (if you even give a shit) it elaborates further on a lot of the stuff Season 1 was missing, like the characters maturing and developing further, the New Order repeating the past and ending up strained like the Old Order, Petra opening up and accepting help from others, and the tone actually being dark or meaningful without the obvious desperation from the writers to do so- its also a lot less...stupid? Silly? Goofy-ahh? Childish? For the most part, at least. Its not an easy game to come by, and unless you're willing to spend hundreds of dollars on the switch version (you arent) then piracy is the only option. But I say its worth the risk of malware. Shockingly good game for the sequel of a silly story based cube game. (this is my special interest Dumbsy, forgive me for the autism rant.)
From what I remember, season 2 literally reveals that a race of basically gods that created the entire world actually had an entire intrique conflict where one of them called "Romeo"(even hearing that as a kid I thought it was weird) essentially doomed his previous world to permanent exile, created a WHOLE new one which is the one Season 1 takes place in just so he can basically destroy it again once he gets bored of it. And he apparently had this huge prison complex, brutally murdered his co admin/god? and can turn into a snowman?

I want to talk about some elements of the game that I really liked when I played it as a kid. Firs of all, the wither storm was a really menacing antagonist. I know it's just scarry monster go brrrrrr, but the design of it and the way it destroys everything in its path was genuinely scary. But that's not too important. My favorite chapter by far was chapter three, where you find Soren, the leader of the order. Littel back story for those who haven't played the game: after the order defeat the enderdragon, Soren separated himself from the world to live in the end. And it's pretty sad. In the end he researches the behavior of enderman, and this concept is really flashed out. He made enderman suits so he can rome safely amongst them, he was testing their intelligence by giving them puzzles to solve and patterns to recognize. He records his research with audio log that you can actually listen to, and it's really interesting. He actually speaks to the enderman sometimes when he's lonely. He built himself an entire dome out of wool that simulates the overworld so he wouldn't forget how it looks. The entire setellment has a built-in security system that flodes the entire place if the enderman gets out of control. I think this is the only serious part of the game that fits in the narrative and doesn't feel out of place. Hopes someone shares this opinion with me.
i think the wither storm is actually really cool, its a monster that eats the world around it to grow and will chase you across the world to get you, when its alive you are never safe in the overworld
Surprised you didn't mention the Shadow The Hedgehog esque swearing in the dialogue, that they used to ensure that E10+ rating. The phrase "the hell is this?" doesn't make sense in minecraft since it's referred to as the nether. Edit: Apparently minecraft story mode is on netflix (not sure if it was delisted from there).
I agree with everything you've said, especially with the characters being incredibly bland.
However, my opinion on this game has not changed.
For some reason, I have a huge conflict between absolutely hating the game, but also absolutely loving it because it's so dumb.
There are some things I legitimately like about the game, such as the Wither Storm, it's a very cool concept and definitely a threat to the gang. However, I totally understand if people don't like the game, I just revel in how stupid but fun it is.
Me too. I think everything after the Wither Storm arc was bad. While the writing wasn't too different for Episodes 1-4, the Wither Storm is by far the best thing this game contributed towards Minecraft and the stakes at the time felt real. I think if the developers hadn't been so set on catering to the kid audience and instead focused on its core audience(at this time in 2015, Minecraft was not primarily catering to kids and therefore not a kid's game), which were people of all ages, it would hold up much better.
I have a memory of being horribly sick, with my vision being blury playing this game, i could not even see what choices i am making

This video makes me SO HAPPY because Minecraft Story Mode is one of my favorite games ever. I'm not sure why, but i've always found it really fun and I replay it every once in a while.

Also Hot Take: the Wither Storm is the most unique Minecraft boss idea and Carries Minecraft Story Mode.
The idea of a giant monster relentlessly following you around your world while eating everything in sight and constantly increasing in size is a horrifying prospect. Also the fact that the only way to kill the thing is to use a diamond pickaxe juiced up on crack and cocaine on a command block makes the task of killing the beast even more difficult. Also said command block is inside of the creature so that's a another can of worms you have to deal with
Also let's be real, the Wihter Storm is the only thing we remember about Minecraft Story Mode.

The villain of season 2 nuking his assitants city to show an example is so damn shocking to be put into a minecraft game, hell season 2 in general with deaths and betrayels, we get to see the consequences and the state the previous world is in after the villain got his way, and hell even one of the points dumsville brought up is in season 2,the villains used to be friends but betrayed and killed each other and petra is worried that she kinda gets why the villain did those things and compares their friendship to her and jessies, and petra having an arc about what she wants to do with her life and finding to terms that her and jessie can't just dick around anymore since the other has responsibilities and season 2 ends with her going off on her own leaving jessie and the gang (you can join her if you want) to find her purpose in life, overall season 2 is THE minecraft story mode game 64/10 wood craft again

i was a HUGE fan of this game in middle school and also an active part of the fandom. the mcsm fandom back in the mid 2010s was really small and tight-knit, and everyone kinda knew everyone. it was fun, in that cringy pre-teen kind of way.

Oh my gosh, I love this game so much. It was a big part of my childhood and, to be honest, I still like it a lot, even knowing the problems (some useless choices, bad writing and other things).
I also love the Season Two (basically the second game) and I super recommend for you to try, since it has better graphics, characters and more impactful choices.

I know that no one is going care for what I'm going to say but just finish watching the video I do agree on some point, like the glitches in the game and some characters were pretty bland and drag out but Minecraft Story to me is very good even with its flaws of its plot and characters, I love it to death as a kid and and I still love the game, but was kinda disappointed that the game is not selling anymore. Even though that Minecraft Story Mode is messy game I will still love it and this games keeps me in a good mood as well. This is a pleasant surprise! This video sums up my feelings on MCSM perfectly. It has a ton of really interesting concepts that it sets up and never pays off, so it's fun to go through but hard to engage with any deeper than surface level (which I think is a bit of a problem for a narrative-based game.)
A good example, I think, is the fact that Lukas was part of the bully gang at the very beginning. Like it was mentioned in this video, his already decent arc would have been made way more interesting if they pushed that a bit more before his redemption (although I do like how he's consistently shown to not start fights, while his friends very much are instigators. He's a weird mix of independent and enabling that is interesting to see play out in certain scenarios.) In the DLC we learn that his friends cut him off completely for befriending the MC gang, even if he risks his life to go save them after thinking they were dead during most of the main game. And like, surely he should have feelings about that! His old friends that he was willing to die for scorned him for making new friends, that sucks! But there is very little mention to how Lukas feels even when one of said former friends becomes the next episode's villain, and the focus is purely on the friend vs Jesse, which is entirely one-sided jealousy. I just think Lukas confronting any of his ex-friends, or talking a bit more about if he was doing okay was sorely needed and that plot was practically begging for him to get more development. I maintain that Lukes, Petra, and Ivor are genuinely interesting character concepts that just aren't given room to reach their full potentials-- the same way the overall story isn't.
The game is weirdly fun to play through and fun to try rewrite, but is not going to reward you for paying attention or trying to engage any deeper than that. Great video as always!

That delisting situation is very common in racing games due to brand license. Out of 24 Need for Speed games made only 6 are available to play legally.
Ive noticed this with the ace combat games and more specifically ace combat 5.
I remember watching a youtuber playing it with just the asshole answers and the game really gets mean spirited.
Also neat detail is that you dont need to make a diamond sword, you can make whatever tool and it will stay that way.

You joked about one thing pretty briefly, but nailed it right on the head. Of all audiences, for kids who grew up with Minecraft content creators on RUclips, having a related piece of media that covers the topic of looking at your heroes as people with flaws would’ve been so unimaginably perfect, even without all the tragic stuff.
Loved this game in my teens and even though the writing is serious shit sometimes it has that charm I can never really let go of. Season two gets even more crazy with the whole "dark themes that are not elaborated on" by bringing godhood, genocide and hELLS fUCKING CANNIBALISM- in the mix. Season 2 is a wild ride. It makes me even more mad because it's all written around the theme of friendships and losing friends and how that affects different characters and how they respond and you as Jesse kinda have to make your choice on how to act as well buT IT'S NOT ELABORATED ON IT HURTS. It could have been such a great story...
Still, love the games, even if they suck

Tbh I do get why a lot of people don’t like this game and while I do agree it has its flaws and it was basically a milking machine for Minecraft RUclipsrs and fans.
I found some positive things with this game, I honestly find some of the environments fun to treverse through such as some of the Order of the Stone’s puzzles and there were a lot of attempted emotional moments that actually got me such as the story of the Order of the Stone, Ivor disagreeing with Gabriel’s speech, The actual reveal of the Order of the Stone using hacks on the Ender Dragon and that being the reason Ivor left them, Ruben’s death, The whole Pumpkin RUclipsr mystery thing, Aiden’s rule on this Skyblock land, the tension that chapter creates and his death, and also this one chapter where an Old Builder who created this Computer Machine which eventually turned on its creator and became evil and controlled all of life. Even though most of these scenes were likely written for shock value, these still got an emotional response out of me.
im gonna be honest the wither storm was the scariest shit to me as a kid- and overall it is a really cool concept- i even put it in a video i made called "the prowlers theme goes with everything".

There is a very dark twinge of nostalgia I had watching this video and reading the description. That Minecraft RUclipsrs are effectively a den of depravity and corruption has shaped my stances on all communities is something I can't unlearn. However, I will always remember working with my Middle School Friends to build our school in Minecraft for a project. I pray children throughout the ages can appreciate the game, as we did.
