As someone who is actually religious; you have the right of it. I may believe in Jesus as a person and divine figure, but that is ancillary at best, the philosophy is absolutely the meat and bones of it. And that philosophy is exactly as you have said. If your grandma is in heaven looking down and asking "where did we go wrong", she is also being answered, "With that one? You didn't."
Thanks for mentioning my favorite game ever! I'm glad it's not forgotten yet! I still get sad watching the brother scene, why can't we be friends, why can't we be friends... :'(.
I love Jay Tholen's work so much. All of it has a sort of authenticness that's hard to find - the messy vulnerability of being humans, simple and unglamorous. All his games have a way of showing us a spark of something raw underneath the skin of someone normally presented as, for lack of a better word, a shallow Ugh. A cringy 14 year old edgelord, clueless out of touch boomers, or a creepy unappealing clown arent just a shallow laugh or shock value. The Christian tones present in his work uplift it because it's less about Christianity with a Capital C and more about what I imagine religion means to people who resonate with it: compassion, forgiveness, and striving to see the person beyond whatever confuses or repels us
as a Cristian seeing this part 8:49 to 9:21 (besides it being just philosophy of course) I agree with you wholeheartedly. many don't even bother learning his messaging but the fact you were so detailed with your description of what he thought, I appreciate greatly.
We should all strive to be like Dropsy, everyone was born to he happy, and giving happiness to yourself by sharing it to others, at least in my eyes, is the truest way to live a happy life

Trans and autistic creators infodumping about how their favorite piece of niche media is also trans and/or autistic is my favorite genre of video essay, so thank you for adding to it! I gotta take a moment to appreciate how wonderful the pixel art is! Dropsy’s bounciness truly encapsulates what some stims feel like and I would 100% give this clown a hug. As an autistic fella I am stoked to embrace Dropsy as a member of our community. His boundless kindness is what so many of us need. Great job and I can’t wait to see what else you make!
i could be misremembering, as it’s been awhile, but i remember hearing about Dropsy around (i think) the time it was going to be released. and i saw a post or video of some sort where the poster expressed concern that Dropsy was gonna be a mean spirited joke character - that all his caring and sweet traits were meant to make him look bad and make fun of anyone that thinks or acts like him. i’m glad to hear that this seemingly was not what happened! you’ve totally sold me on wanting to try it now - games with weird concepts/art but a very heartfelt core are completely up my alley and as a side note i’m REALLY glad this got pushed to my feed because now that i’ve seen a few of your vids, you could easily be one of my fav video essayists here. and at only around 2k subs!? well my one sub is a drop in the bucket but here’s hoping it helps you continue to grow :3

o damn, i’ve known about this game for years but i never knew it was like this. as someone who always wants to choose kindness and acceptance for others, rather than judge them and not try to understand them on a deeper level, i relate to this SO hard. i feel like the world today (especially with the advent of the internet) has caused people to become so causally mean spirited, and it sucks to see. i love seeing others happy, and it’s disheartening what people will say only due to the fact they can hide under a veil of anonymity. hatred spurs from a lack of love, so i hope we see more people like dropsy pop up in the future. the world needs it
I don't care what kind of movie. I just want a friend of the protag to be a guy dressed and painted as a clown being completely neutral to the plot. He's just his friend and is there. I imagine a slightly fatter guy with Michael Keaton's kind of raspy voice. "Can you tell a joke" clown: ..... After you went through THAT, it makes my court verdict look like one. I love clowns. maybe mainly cause NiGHTS is such an amazing design.
I am happy that there is someone here who understands exactly what Jesus preached, and who understands what some people don't get about most Christians. Even when my own friends or those I wish I could've befriended had these views on Christians that kinda made any conversations about religion awkward. I remember a small conversation where a lesbian in my high-school's band asked me, "Are you a Christian?" I responded."I used to go to church regularly," she then asked,"Are you homophobic?" I said, "No." "So you're an ally," she said. I stated "I don't have to be an ally to be a friend." I hate being called an "ally" in the context of me being a straight man and speaking kindly or cordially with any gay person. That word makes it sound like we're two different peoples at war, but we're both human beings, living in the same country, who shouldn't see each other as anything other than human. It does not matter what you are, it matters WHO you are. If who you are is unkind to me and those who have similar characteristics to me, then I have no interest conversing with you in a kind manner until you make an effort to be a kinder human being. I'm glad there are those like you who hold to those principles, that of loving thy neighbor and treating those as you wish to be treated. Games like Dropsy giving this positive message is absolutely lovely
There are no words to describe how happy I am that Dropsy had a impact on people other then just me. It did not get the respect it deserved when it released.
I watched gameplay of this game years ago. The only thing i remember was the ending and him failing to use the telephone because of his big weird hands.
Something that I think can help with Dropsy being a representation as Jesus is that many are scared of him do seeing him as evil can be a representation of how many people who have been burned from religious trauma see Jesus as a figure of evil due to the christians they knew being people who did AWFUL things and called themselves amazing christians. Im saying this as an autistic Christian. It pains me soul that peoples perception of God and Jesus has been torn into this symbol of judgement when in reality Jesus wouldnt get along with those who call themselves "christians" and spout hate.
While playing, I really couldn't get a read on Dropsy. Now looking through this lense, it fits perfectly. Someone that has difficulty reading cues but still wants to help however they can? That's exactly how I feel most of the time. I'm not going to go into details, but it's something I've struggled with all my life and am starting to get a handle on. Now, looking back, it's like looking at an outsider's perspective. Thank you for the video. I feel represented.
Thank you for making this. I'm a follower of Jesus, who is genderqueer/LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent. Dropsy has been one of my favourite games since I first played it 7 years. However, I'm not good at picking up metaphors/symbolism in media unless it's explained to me or pointed out, so while I recognised the comparison was there, you really put it into perspective. This game is beautiful and very precious to me.
This was one of my favorite games. The part at the end where he showed mercy to the man who mutated his dog and was trying to kill him really sealed the deal for me. The fact that after all that he still just wanted to give him a hug.
until not to long ago, i had only ever seen Christianity, as well as most other religions, in a bad light. but I saw some preists explaining how Christianity isn't really like that, even though people follow corrupt churches and governments. and this video helped me realize that not all forms of Christianity or religion in general are bad.
@@deece1482 Not everyone, dude. I'm guessing you had a sour experience related to Christianity. I'm a Christian, and I do want to say that there's more to us than the vocal and hateful minority. There's good ones out there. I know that being able to see past bias set from trauma is a hard thing to do, speaking from experience. Any Christian that's accepting until you have a different opinion isn't worth your time and mental health.
@@deece1482 Not necessarily. dropsy really reminds me of my autistic uncle who needs higher support needs than most, but he’s always really kind and rubs his hands together … I might be debatably on the autistic spectrum myself since my family has a history with neurodivergent stuff, but that’s why I like to study stuff like neurodivergence in my own life, and genetics … I want to see what type of difference or hurdle a person has that might make them unable to be understood, and for dropsy, he died because he was unaware (my uncle is still alive though) TLDR: dropsy is really accurate to people I’ve met and I want to see more characters like him
I've been getting a lot of "woke game bad" type vids this month so this was a nice shift in recommendations. Thanks RUclips (not really but... you know)
As a West Virginian, we have a lot more in common with Dropsy than just our appearances lol. I chose to stay in this state after getting my doctorate because the folks here are a hell of a lot nicer than many of the people I’ve encountered in other states. Hugs and the time of day to listen to someone talk about their problems, even if you can’t correct the problems yourself, means the world to people, and I think West Virginians understand that better than the states the routinely look down on us.

They live even when they have such drastic downside I am a person who never understood people around normally I have bad recognition of faces and voices, and because of this, sometimes emotions... and this affected me badly because i can not feel like people around me No, happiness, etc, they are the same But i sometimes weird, detached from their perspective for them And seeing someone weird count as insult for some deranged person is just Painful These people need support And no, i do not talk just autism memes, etc Only when they cross the limit of funny to just Degrading it to "Haha, he is stupid because autistic, funny" insult I do not know if in another country it is less freguent But in mine It is far more popular than some real curse words
Idk why I wrote that when the author said something like this without a lot of water in the text, like my flaw Bur just I can not sometimes contain things like this inside me and want to just free them out, even though my anxiety tells me to keep it thst way, do not talk too much
autistic and adhd people also have pupets or sensory neurons most of the time neurotypical people pupets go through a blip or purge of sensory neurons but autistic or adhd we don’t do that ours are just there they don’t blip or go through a purge thats why we have sensory issues and why some experience one with greater sensory issues and other might not have this issue

as another queer, autistic, trans furry with DID who's got weird ass religious beliefs, I really appreciate the outlook you have on the symbolism of Dropsy and how he interacts with the world.. I have a special interest in psychology and religion, so this is absolutely the perfect video for me and gets my inspiration for research and projects going ^_^
also your sona is very cute!! and I hope to see more stuff like this later, whether watching other stuff you've posted or watching things you post later!! :)
June: explaining what ASD is
video: "unrelated" factory sim footage
As someone who is actually religious; you have the right of it. I may believe in Jesus as a person and divine figure, but that is ancillary at best, the philosophy is absolutely the meat and bones of it.
And that philosophy is exactly as you have said.
If your grandma is in heaven looking down and asking "where did we go wrong", she is also being answered, "With that one? You didn't."
FINALLY someone talks about Dropsy. I still don't know why it hasn't received all that much attention, because it's such an amazing game!
"whos a good boy? PISS EVERYWHERE"
fucking amazing
Most expressive PNG tuber avatar ever, how have I not discovered this lovely channel before
this was the wrong video to watch while drunk. i’m very glad i clicked on it. instant subscription
Thanks for mentioning my favorite game ever! I'm glad it's not forgotten yet! I still get sad watching the brother scene, why can't we be friends, why can't we be friends... :'(.
Dropsy is a 10/10 clown.
We love Dropsy.
We should all strive to be like Dropsy, everyone was born to he happy, and giving happiness to yourself by sharing it to others, at least in my eyes, is the truest way to live a happy life
Dropsy's a good boy and I'm shocked how few people have played this game!
Huh, cute rabbit fursona! I like it
What a wonderful video!!!
This game singlehandedly made me overcome my fear of clowns
i could be misremembering, as it’s been awhile, but i remember hearing about Dropsy around (i think) the time it was going to be released. and i saw a post or video of some sort where the poster expressed concern that Dropsy was gonna be a mean spirited joke character - that all his caring and sweet traits were meant to make him look bad and make fun of anyone that thinks or acts like him. i’m glad to hear that this seemingly was not what happened! you’ve totally sold me on wanting to try it now - games with weird concepts/art but a very heartfelt core are completely up my alley
and as a side note i’m REALLY glad this got pushed to my feed because now that i’ve seen a few of your vids, you could easily be one of my fav video essayists here. and at only around 2k subs!? well my one sub is a drop in the bucket but here’s hoping it helps you continue to grow :3
I don't know how its possible, but I want to give a trillion likes. I loved this video, It's amazing, fantastic, heartfelt, educational. One of the most understated channels on RUclips!
Like economy would crash with you Lil bluddy ☠️
@@timmycu Excellent {evil grin}
The weird thing is, I am utterly terrified of clowns, but not dropsy. He is the only one that makes me not scared
I remember a phrase, a big light can cast a big shadow.
Humans aren’t evil. They where taught to be evil for survival or due to medical issues created by evil
I mean, Humans are inherently violent. But not Moreso than any other predator species.
@@candlestone5397 from the moment i was able to interact with others i only wanted to make friends, comfort and help others without desires for power or importance. As a small child i didn’t understood what stops others for helping those in need. This difference made me vulnerable to severe abuse.
@@candlestone5397 I think this philosophy only serves to spread ideas that serve to hurt the vulnerable.
o damn, i’ve known about this game for years but i never knew it was like this. as someone who always wants to choose kindness and acceptance for others, rather than judge them and not try to understand them on a deeper level, i relate to this SO hard. i feel like the world today (especially with the advent of the internet) has caused people to become so causally mean spirited, and it sucks to see.
i love seeing others happy, and it’s disheartening what people will say only due to the fact they can hide under a veil of anonymity. hatred spurs from a lack of love, so i hope we see more people like dropsy pop up in the future. the world needs it
I don't care what kind of movie.
I stated "I don't have to be an ally to be a friend."
I hate being called an "ally" in the context of me being a straight man and speaking kindly or cordially with any gay person.
Blessed be the algorithm, brought me to you, and you have brought me to Dropsy
Jesus is not a lifetime, it's a reflexion
Dropsy really changes someone...
When your confronted with something. Think what Dropsy would have done, for jesus would proberly have done the same.
Dropsy is who I want to strive to be in life.
crazy how I knew exactly what kind of voice to expect before even clicking on the video
Omg as a clown myself I should check this out
While playing, I really couldn't get a read on Dropsy.
Sorry, Jesus isn’t Jesus, but a philosophy taught by a guy called Jesus.
That is so weirdly funny.

I read this comment the moment they said it in the video 🫢
Congrats on 100k views!!!!
This was one of my favorite games. The part at the end where he showed mercy to the man who mutated his dog and was trying to kill him really sealed the deal for me. The fact that after all that he still just wanted to give him a hug.
Oh wow, this clown made me cry! In a nice way. Thanks dropsy :)
RUclips algorithm doing wonders today
You have had the best explanation of Jesus I haven’t heard for awhile, it’s love for all of gods creatures. Good bless
until not to long ago, i had only ever seen Christianity, as well as most other religions, in a bad light. but I saw some preists explaining how Christianity isn't really like that, even though people follow corrupt churches and governments. and this video helped me realize that not all forms of Christianity or religion in general are bad.
The priests are posing in some attempt to get more followers. Everything "good" the church does is purely self serving in the end.
Look at the work done by Liberation Theologists, willing to die for the liberation of the poor and willing to defy church hierarchy, or other radical Christian groups that were willing to put serving the poor above their own self-interest. It does happen. The problem is one of religious hierarchy not just religion.
As an autistic West Virginia I- well…..yeah you got me actually 😔
1. you have thoroughly sold me on this game that i've never heard of before...i love dropsy...i wish to hug dropsy...
2. off topic but your hair is cute!
YES!!!! YOU GET IT!!!! You're the ONLY person allowed to talk about this game, you Get It!!! I found Dropsy years ago, and as an autistic fella myself, he IMMEDIATELY struck me as an autistic person. I never finished this game until literally today, and that's because I saw this video in my recommendations a few days ago and right away went to reinstall it and play the whole game, just to watch it, because this title literally made me scream. And yes!!!! He's autistic Jesus!!! And I love that so much!!!
love your video, glad the alorithm fed it to me tonight.
subscribed right when you said you are also going to do a homestuck video, and liked the video when you made the point of it being so good matured that it is counterculture. Love the bit about religion as someone raised christian and is agnostic now, but took some of the core philosophy with me. Gonna have to watch some more of your videos soon!
that was wonderful.
is nobody going to talk about how fucking insane of a title that is
dropsy really reminds me of my autistic uncle who needs higher support needs than most, but he’s always really kind and rubs his hands together … I might be debatably on the autistic spectrum myself since my family has a history with neurodivergent stuff, but that’s why I like to study stuff like neurodivergence in my own life, and genetics … I want to see what type of difference or hurdle a person has that might make them unable to be understood, and for dropsy, he died because he was unaware (my uncle is still alive though)
TLDR: dropsy is really accurate to people I’ve met and I want to see more characters like him
Lovely viddy, even had me tearing up a little halfway through
I've been getting a lot of "woke game bad" type vids this month so this was a nice shift in recommendations. Thanks RUclips (not really but... you know)
This video has the title of all time
Dropsy my beloved
6:11 I see neurodivergent people like me have a different tool box than neurotypicals.
I have never heard of this game but I’m autistic I love clowns and was raised Christian. This…this hits. Thank you for bringing this to me
i was like "oh this reminds me of chulip!" and then she said "It's like chulip!" and i went "O:!" and knew i had to keep watching
12:51 almost started crying from hearing that, gripping my laundry rn to stop it
Yaknow, when I first saw it, I thought this was a puzzle game about a creepy clown wanting to hug people.
I suppose that's still true.
I’m from Charleston wv, the West Virginia comment is self deprecating humor sorry if this wasn’t communicated properly
@@JuneCrashRadio No problem! I thought the comment was funny. Overall I really liked your take on Dropsy and how well-spoken you were all throughout this video.
That's also a funny coincidence--I'm also from Charleston, lol. Looking forward to the opening of the cat café downtown!
Dude if I didn't see this comment I would NOT have watched the video. Im so tired of catching strays from random ppl online all the time -_-. If it wasn't clear im also from WV
Also there's a cat café in Charleston? I totally have to make a drive up there
@@lettuse6099 unfortunately yall just moved out but I’ve been in Charleston all my life until like June lol so I won’t get to try it. I will say tho my ass is gonna be missing tutors. No hangover is complete without a thundering herd
@@JuneCrashRadioSo real! I couldnt imagine somewhere without tutors biscuit and gravity... Also a few more mins into your video and I absolutely love it. Totally subscribing
I am not autistic(probably, i am not sure), and I do not have a Down syndrome
But when i see these terms as a slur or just insult
I sometimes want just to cry
As autistc peoole is not stupid, they have a pretty high chance to be smart
And the people with Down syndrome
Well, they need at least some respect. They live even when they have such drastic downside
I am a person who never understood people around normally
I have bad recognition of faces and voices, and because of this, sometimes emotions... and this affected me badly because i can not feel like people around me
No, happiness, etc, they are the same
But i sometimes weird, detached from their perspective for them
And seeing someone weird count as insult for some deranged person is just
Painful
These people need support
And no, i do not talk just autism memes, etc
Only when they cross the limit of funny to just
Degrading it to "Haha, he is stupid because autistic, funny" insult
I do not know if in another country it is less freguent
But in mine
It is far more popular than some real curse words
Idk why I wrote that when the author said something like this without a lot of water in the text, like my flaw
Bur just
I can not sometimes contain things like this inside me and want to just free them out, even though my anxiety tells me to keep it thst way, do not talk too much
autistic and adhd people also have pupets or sensory neurons most of the time neurotypical people pupets go through a blip or purge of sensory neurons but autistic or adhd we don’t do that ours are just there they don’t blip or go through a purge thats why we have sensory issues and why some experience one with greater sensory issues and other might not have this issue
I clicked this out of curiosity and I’m now in tears Dropsy is best boy.
little lightbulb went off in my head at the homestuck mention FUUUCK!!!!
Well done as always! I love your perspective. Keep up the awesome work!
Not enough people mention having selective mutism tbh, felt crazy that seemingly nobody else experienced it
I'm a big fan of Dropsy and I was always a little sad that it never seems to get talked about so I'm really happy that you took the time to make this video. Great work!
Is anyone else thinking that Dropsy doesn't have bones?
I love clowns so much and I'm glad to see one that serves they're original purpose. To spread joy. :o)
Thank you for this video. It made me emotional. (also love ur sona)
Dropsy is just a lil bouncy guy, I never knew about them before but I love them now
Why does *everything* come back to Homestuck
Hey I just wanna say I loved your review of this game. It was kind, it was in depth, it was witty and funny and your put yourself out there (which is TERRIFYING in this world at times) thank you for this video I feel... better about humanity knowing there is something in us that could create Dropsy.
Why did they gave Dropsy the whole bakery tho ?
i found your choice of words for hypnospace outlaw v interesting. "traversal"
that's the language used for how you engage with hypertext fiction which hypnospace feels very adjacent to
dropsy seems great, i definitely connected a lot with your description of his struggle to engage with and be accepted by the world around him.
I too as an autistic person strive to be clown jesus for this world
Thank you for doing a wonderful video talking about the game I was ranting and raving about while everyone else was buried in Undertale
The ending of dropsy reminds me of the green mile, it hits me as hard as it does too
that description completely sold me on this game
thanks for the hug, Dropsy
This is beautiful. Real beautiful
