      Yeah, let's tear down an abandoned Disney destination with so much history of family and fun for a GOLF COURSE that hardly anybody will use. I estimate, the project is going to end up like every other "rich housing" project. It will flop and go abandoned itself. All at the expense of what? All that nature destroyed. As if climate change wasn't a concern as is. Capitalist pigs.

    • @manenkoff
      @manenkoff 6 лет назад +31

      Actually it's not as bad as you think or even remotely close to what others are commenting. In truth, Disney really only has River Country and Discovery Island that are abandoned. The resort they had abandoned is now the Art of Animation resort. The rest of their "abandoned" projects are just that, projects that never came to be as their original plans. But the ones inside the parks have had other projects done in their place. A few other projects, like Disney's America, never broke ground and the land has since been bought and used by others.
      This island was never owned, designed, built, or operated by Disney. Disney had a contract with the cruise line who in turn had a contract with the owners of the island. The setting was a joint venture between the cruise line and the owners of the island. It was then the cruise line that eventually abandoned it, not Disney.

      It's why it's important for local community councils to have more say in how a town or city is zoned rather than developers. More and more recently we've been seeing things like these housing developments, golf courses, and sports stadiums that adversely affect the local ecosystem or community structure. The towns and cities listen to the developers because they'll hope they'll bring in money with the new structures. Sometimes it works. For a tiny island like this however, there's no way building any of this served a purpose. It was pure vanity.

      Pickles it was sank off the coast of Thailand . Here's the wiki telling it's history. It's sad. I took my high school senior cruise on it in 90 and now this part of my history is gone

    My father was part of the crew that built the stores on the island. It very much does exist. He remembers some of the things in the pictures like the long pier, he says he swam with dolphins there. He stayed in hotel in Treasure Cay and then would take a fairy to Treasure Island for work.

    I WAS ON THIS CRUISE!! With my family in 1994, can’t tell you what this video means to me. My little brother and I probably 6 yrs old & 9 yrs old? Our best memory of a vacation ever. The water was crystal clear and we also got to have those days at Disney..the exact same package! The best memories of this ship, Mickey and the Islands. I too have always been fascinated with abandoned places and have some locations I’d love to share with you if they’d be places you’d want to document!! You’re awesome Jake, this is the ONLY binge worthy quality quarantine TV I’ve found!! So glad I stumbled upon the McBarge video and discovered this series. Considering that it’s an island, it’s most likely that any animal life that lives there was either marine or avian. You wouldn’t find creatures like bears, dear, hogs, or anything like that on a secluded tropical island. It’s too small and the weather too tropically dangerous to support a decent sized population.

    My wife and I cruised there on the Majestic in 1990 long before anyone ever heard of the Disney Cruise Line. The place was beautiful and the activities and food were fantastic. I had always assumed that Disney owned the island and that when the Disney Cruise Line started up they just changed the name of the cay, re-imagined it, remodeled it and were still using it. It's a shame to see what it became. Thanks for sharing.

    HOLY CRAP!! When I was little I actually went to that water park, before it was abandoned, with my old childhood friends. Honestly I didn’t know it was in Emerald Isle, I thought it was in Harkers Island due to my friends living there at the time but this is definitely the same place. I remember going down the middle green slide and being scared to death cause it was essentially a straight drop down, and that little hub area was actually where you got off of a water slide that you slid down on with a mat that holds two people. I also remember there was some old lady who broke her leg or something and the ambulance came and picked her up while she was screaming in pain. It was a very eventful day. None the less it’s so weird seeing something from way back in my childhood be brought up in some random RUclips video I happened to be watching. Man what a throw back.

    This is probably my favorite video on your channel. Abandoned by Disney was one of my favorite creepy pastas (mainly bc I love the jungle book) and I like this debunking of the theory. I used to go there as a kid!! It was very cool and lots of abandoned shacks and even old jet skis. It was made into a very high end property for celebrities and the Uber rich. There are still places open to the public on the island. It is called great guana cay. Most popular are nippers beach bar and grabbers beach bar. Both on beautiful beaches with great food and drinks! I am grateful I got to see some of the abandoned areas before they were torn down and redone. Abaco is an absolutely gorgeous gem of the Bahamas. Proud to call it home.
