I use to live in Cocoa Beach. Moved right before they fence the area off. I worked at an Ace Hardware next to it when I was in HS, and a number of people there warn me about him. Like sometimes some of the people would park in that massive empty parking lot, or near it (which he didn't own). He would call the store, cops, and other things to complain. I've also heard it was a complete pain dealing with him. But I never dealt with him myself. Funny thing is, my family was looking at renting out one of the floors when we got there for a house. But they said no since they wanted a business (I don't know if he was involved with that are not). As far as the city. They use HOA (Home Owners) tactics to take over properties and sell it off or give it to their friends. One of the big reasons why I'm happy I'm not there. I worked at a vet when I was in college and late HS a few streets from there. One day the doctor was putting clear coat on the fence to protect it, and the city told him to stop and gave him a fine for not having a permit to paint his own fence (again with clear coat). I know my family had a similar problem (that lived a quarter mile from the vet) with a number of things). Anyways, what happens is the city keeps hitting the person with fines and won't give out work orders when they take over a property. This means they want your land or someone a friend of one of the leaders of Cocoa Beach wants the land. The city will find SOMETHING (like the wrong type of wood being used in this video). Then to change or fix that problem, you need to get or your contractors need to get a work order from the city. The city says no, but still says you need to fix these problems (so now it's your going to get another fine or some other possible problems by you illegally fixing the thing.) The amount you owe the city will get close or over the value of the land. This in return will force the person to declare bankruptcy. The city will buy or just take the land for almost nothing. Then give it to their friend, sell it to their friend for almost nothing, or sell it to a worker for almost nothing. So if you rubbed the right shoulders, you can buy a given land for $10k-30k when the real value of it is in the millions. Then the person will sell it for millions, or do what they wanted to do with the land. Watch in a year or 2 if this won't happen. From my understanding this is a common thing for areas around Cocoa Beach too. I've heard about people getting ding by a city worker saying they illegally did something, taking pic of it, but it turns out the city worker was doing a B&E to take the pictures to prove it. A few of these have been stopped when it was proven the person was breaking into the place to take the pictures of the problem to get evidence. The part the person in this video didn't really say, but was kinda hinting at. A good number of companies wanted to buy parts or all of that building and redo it. That away they can put their business there. The problem here is the city wouldn't allow them to get the work orders to fix or redo the building. The city wanted that land that bad (I wouldn't doubt that land is worth in the good 3 or 4 million if not more). But due to these shady tactics, and Obama getting rid of man space flight. Nearby towns seen 14% of their business dry up within the first bit. It got so bad you had people with a PHD applying to Mc D. Between all of that, Cocoa Beach went from a cop living on almost every street and with almost no problems. To a massive drug problem, prostitution problems, and drinking problems. Like after the cops couldn't afford living there bc there jobs were gone or they themselves had to deal with this shady stuff from the city. They had to move and that place had a flood of drugs move in fast. Regular DEA activity around. (Not to bring of politics. But the crap job market, the massive amount of regulations, and shady stuff like I just talked about is a major reason why Trump got in office. But I think that city while it did everything by the book. It is corrupt as you can get legally. From my understanding, this is a common practice when it comes to HOA.) I've been out of there since 2011 or 2012. From my understanding, it's much much much worst now than when I was last there. It's also the last time I will live in a city. Oh and one thing that wasn't said in the video. That guy who killed himself. I forgot how long until they notice, but some time went by before someone notice he was dead. Anyways, good job on the video. I never seen the pictures, and didn't know about some of the stuff in the video. In fact, I thought the building always looked like that. BTW there is another bank near there that is abandon. I'm not sure if it's still there since I've been out of the area for so long, or if another company took it over. But Bank of America use to be near there. They closed down the bank due to lack of clients. This was some time after the job market went to crap, and a ton of people had to move. But I don't know if that caused that. I doubt you can explore it without the cops being on you, but you might be able to get permission to if it isn't already pushed over or bought out by another company.
The whole state is like that from what I have heard online. I don't know if it's all true or not though. They seem to hand out fines like a Jehovah's witness hands out pamphlets.
Obama may have cut the space programme but the majority of what happened to that building is the problem of the City Council rather than the President. Now Trump's gotten into office on a promise to fix a problem he has no jurisdiction over because everyone blamed Obama but nobody looked to their local government. See also: Brexit, where the European Union got blamed for things that were the fault of the British Parliament. All of this egged on by politicians and a partisan press who would happily lie in order keep the people blaming the wrong organisation ...then be genuinely surprised when people believed those lies and acted on them.
Well, evidently he was no "saint", that's for sure. Sounds like an real eccentric who got pretty weird by the end, a la Howard Hughes. Who builds a windowless penthouse apartment on top of a multi-story building? He might as well have lived in an underground bunker.
Great job on the video. My family where friends of Frank,my father and uncle were the ones that did all of the stonework in his penthouse. Thanks for all the good times Frank you are sadly missed, rest in peace.
Yeah - but when they're bullshit fines due to the city wanting the building razed. Why wouldn't they approve tenants to keep it maintained? They bullied him out through these "fines".

R T Right? It remains an undeveloped, weed infested lot to this day. I suggested they build a parking garage. Lord knows we need more parking around here.
he was an asshole, he refused to pay his fines, bills and wouldn't agree to renovate the structure. he also gave it a brutalist aesthetic which looks so ugly.
Dude for some reason wanted to live above a decaying building. It would have collapsed. He should have gone to a nursing home. Would have had a better life there.
People irritate me so much sometimes. That building was gorgeous in its initial design, but they just had to add shit to it as well as let parts of it decay due to floors being rented to different tenants. And that god awful penthouse at the top was the final straw, and now the thing is just gone. Such a damn pity.
I was wondering the same thing. As this comment ist just a few days old: Was it added later? Was it added manual or automaticaly by some copyright claim?
@@m1nt_100 if the video was taken down for copyright violation an updated version of the video can be uploaded and reviewed. That's how they are able to blur out the part that were news footage
Excellent! I grew up in Cocoa Beach in the 70s and 80s - not too far from the Glass Bank. I met Frank Wolfe several times over the years and can even remember his original Wolfie's Seaside Resort on A1A. I may be a little late to the party here, but thanks for bringing back a lot of great memories.
Well, he was probably a very worldly guy. Lots of money and he probably had lots of girls and parties there in the 80's. He made those choices. I see it all the time today. People didn't want commitment or marriage or children because they want to party. Those things don't last forever. Build up treasure in Heaven instead of earth. Commit to a spouse and raise children to be good citizens. Spending your life as a never ending party is going to end like it did for this poor soul.
I lived 5 minutes away from this, I remember every time on the way to the beach passing by this, thinking it could be used for something amazing, my dad always would tell me all the stories about it. I'm now living in Missouri and surprised one of my favorite RUclipsrs picked up on something I lived so close to!

That's capitalism for you baby! It turns out that socialism and capitalism are just two sides of the same coin, both nothing more than tools to allow the few to exercise control of resources.
Used to live in the coco beach area when I was a kid. I always rode past it going to school everyday and it just fascinated me. Being such a great work of architecture, I wondered why is this place abandoned? Little did I know that it was a cultural icon and it had a tremendous backstory. There was a neighborhood in satellite beach constructed in the 50s& 60s that housed families stationed at Patrick AFB that boomed back in the day, I was one of the last people to live in those houses before they were all torn down. It’s a sad story really the space coast.. it was like the end of an era. Thank you for uploading this!!

Wow, does anyone else get the feeling the city bullied a sick old man into suicide? Just so they could have an empty lot. It wouldn't have hurt their eyes too badly for a couple more years so he could live his life out in his weird little home. Maybe it's just me being emotional. Anyway, great vid. I love this series - it is extremely well made.
You're actually right. I just made a detail comment on how this worked when I lived in Cocoa Beach. They are one of the most corrupt cities I know of that doesn't break laws. Like watch that land. Some friend of the city person was most likely already or going to be give or sold that land for almost nothing. Like it's normal business for them to take over a land, then sell it at $20k to a friend, then the land will sell at several million. I have no doubt money is flowing around to help move things along, but it's all going to be legal. But the place did look like crap. But as noted in the video, the city wouldn't give out work orders to allow people to work on the building.
Well, the building was causing some legitimate problems like asbestos and fire issues. Someone could've gotten seriously sick or hurt. I think it was, honestly, a little selfish of Wolfe to ignore that just so he could live in some old building. As bad it sounds, anybody who is that abnormally attached to one rotting old building, especially in a place like Florida, clearly has issues. But don't get me wrong, I do feel bad for him.
Perhaps I miss understood, but I don't think Wolfe had any impact of asbestos or fire issues, but he did protest to paying parts of the building he wasn't a part of and he didn't want is house destroyed without getting paid - which seems fair to me. Especially if the city actively prevented people from fixing it up and adding tenants. Of course he had issues, he killed himself, that's an extremely finalizing proof. He was already sick and old, the city should have never pushed him out like that, imo.
Man I love this series! It's always fascinating to learn how these once iconic structures became a thing of the past in modern times. Plus you put a lot of research into this and your voice is very relaxing, perfect for listening to when you have had a long tiring day. Keep up the great work!
Very sad about the old man that lived in the top room. I didn't know he killed himself. Although he had questionable taste in interior decor, it was his home to make into what pleased him. The former restaurant looked like a jumping place back in it's day.
There is something settling and calming about just taking a few minutes and enjoying the information and reliving something that reminds us all of places we came from. Thank you again BSF.
I feel bad for poor Frank Wolf. He just wanted his unique apartment over a once thriving tourist attraction and the city bullied him to the point of suicide
Here's the thing, you DON'T build your mancave on top of a commercial space. Really, the man was nuts. He could've lived comfortably in his wealth elsewhere, not atop a rotting, defunct building where vermin and asbestos posed a public health hazard.
Oh wow, this was an incredible video to watch. I was born in Rockledge just outside Cocoa Beach and lived in Cocoa Beach and south of it in Satellite Beach until 2014 when I moved away. I was always curious about the glass bank and it's history, but I never knew someone was actively living in it for so long. I had thought about trying to get into the building to see the inside (since I couldn't see much looking in the bottom floor windows) when I was younger and more reckless. It would've scared me to death if I had tried to enter the building and somebody was inside! This was wild to watch a history of the building having lived so close to it for so long. Not relevant to the glass bank, but if you're interested in the area just south of Cocoa Beach is Patrick Air Force Base which is a huge Military base sandwiched in-between beach communities. It's really interesting having a military base right on the ocean and much be a popular spot to be stationed haha. Having lived in Cocoa Beach between the Air Force Base and Cape Canaveral there was a consistent flow of rockets, airplanes/jets, and helicopters going off from the North and South. Anyway, I'm rambling, really excellent video to watch and thanks for putting it together! 👍
The story I heard was that Frank Wolfe tried to salvage his belongings from the top floor but couldn't access the freight elevator since power was turned off. Then, in desperation, he committed suicide.
Your content is absolutely outstanding. The abandoned series has really captured the locations and the commentary and history is insanely detailed. Good on ya Jake!
You should do the Majesty Building in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Known to the locals as the I-4 Eyesore. An unfinished building that's been sitting there for 16 years.
I've watched a few videos about this glass bank building and they have all been sad. It was so sad to see Frank Wolf's life end the way it did. He may have had money but it sure didn't buy him happiness. Thanks for sharing this story Jake!

This episode made me think of two new opportunities for you: The rise of University of Miami and that of UCF which I think is connected to this episode as this area was so heavily influenced by NASA and their space exploration. Awesome work my friend.
I live in satellite beach, which is relatively close to cocoa. My family and I drove passed the building often and we always enjoyed looking at it. Around 2013-2014 we stopped taking that road since mostly because we had no reason to go that way. I just found out two months ago that it was demolished and I had no idea about the apartment or the suicide until now
This is one of my all time favorite Abandoned Docs out there on RUclips. It is so well researched with tons of footage. Unfortunately l find the ending so tragically sad....💔
Nice video! I used to live in Palm Bay, and have explored the bank after the suicide. I went in there by myself. I almost always go exploring alone. Too bad about it getting torn down. It was a pretty cool place. Actually, there are a lot of abandoned homes, strip malls and office buildings in Brevard county. Ive been in most of them. There were quite a few in my neighborhood that were damaged in the hurricanes we had a few years ago.

I'm glad you used AdamTheWoo's and The Proper People's clips. They are both channels I follow that had nice videos on this place- which is how I found out about it in the first place.
Doesn't add up...murder does seem kind of plausible...seriously, the city was basically forcing the owners off the property with no real intention of negotiating on the fines...heck, one of the owners even stated they signed a 15yr lease wtih a tenant to use the space...sounds like the city wanted them gone no matter what
Marquies Riley “doesn’t add up, so clearly they killed him”. Why see you idiots so fucking quick to assume there’s a conspiracy? He was an 80 year old dude who was already crazy. If he wanted to live in peace, why didn’t he construct a new penthouse somewhere else? The building was a decaying safety hazard and the man wasn’t paying his fines. I’m sorry the man killed himself, but there’s no damn conspiracy here. Why should the city allow him to continue living on top of a clear safety hazard just because you think he should be allowed to?

I'm from cocoa beach, it was really cool to watch this thing be built, but also really sad to watch it go down. There were so many cool things in this building before everything left.
This is a very well done video. I've always felt the city government should've been charged with the death of Mr. Wolff because what they did to him, though their efforts to "steal" the building, is what caused his death.
I used to pass this building all the time on my way to barrier jack's. I never knew it's name, and my family was not around at the time it was a local landmark, so my family used to just call it "the eyesore." When it got demolished, my family and I made jokes about how "it was about time." Kinda feel bad about it now that I know the context. Great video!

Laugh at, scoff at, and belittle Wolfe's interior decorating all you want, right up until you unlock the door and walk in to the apartment you probably live in. With that out of the way, I will say that I really admire the research and time you clearly put into Gathering all of your background information and pictures, and then weave it together in a wonderfully concise and entertaining way. And your narration is not only informative, it is quite soporific. A lot of people watch the Nightly News before they go to bed at night to toss and turn, and then wonder why they live on anxiety meds. I watch a BSF film, and in less time than it would take a sleep aid to kick in, I'm ready to sleep!

Bright Sun Films Can you visit Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and check out the Mall of Cortana and do some research on that place??? I would really appreciate that! 😊
Jake I'm not sure how you amaze me in every single abandoned episode you make. Never ever stop making these videos.
Thank you so much!
Do something on kowloon walled city please. There are very few good videos on it and I think you could make a great one
Bright Sun Films you should do either century mall or loveman's
From my understanding, this is a common practice when it comes to HOA.)
I've been out of there since 2011 or 2012.
Haha you weren't joking when you said you made a detailed post! XD This is great supplemental info to the video.
Wow good info. That's a lot of typing lol
Really good info and post on the corruption of Cocoa Beach. If I ever move to Florida, it won't be to that crooked town, that's for certain!
I feel sorry for Frank, he was an old man that lived alone in a large pent house with no one to keep him company...
Rhia Legaspi He was a stubborn man who avoided the law, his loyalty to his home maybe great but to the people he is a crook
He was a weirdo, he didn't need anyone to keep him company.
Well, evidently he was no "saint", that's for sure. Sounds like an real eccentric who got pretty weird by the end, a la Howard Hughes. Who builds a windowless penthouse apartment on top of a multi-story building? He might as well have lived in an underground bunker.
Not gonna lie, Frank knew how to pimp out his penthouse apartment.
I get the sense he preferred the company of cocaine to that of people.
Great job on the video. My family where friends of Frank,my father and uncle were the ones that did all of the stonework in his penthouse. Thanks for all the good times Frank you are sadly missed, rest in peace.
Sad that old dude killed himself, all he wanted was his tacky apartment.
iBeer420noscope
tacky to us, home to him 😥
Woah?
Yup, but ya gotta pay your bills, like every one else.
Yeah - but when they're bullshit fines due to the city wanting the building razed. Why wouldn't they approve tenants to keep it maintained? They bullied him out through these "fines".
MKIVWWI the city put all kinds of bueurocratic fines on him for no real reason

Pure class, that Jake.
they couldn't just wait for the poor old man to die when they weren't even going to do anything with it, that's fucked up

Right? It remains an undeveloped, weed infested lot to this day. I suggested they build a parking garage. Lord knows we need more parking around here.
And how about a Frank Wolfe memorial.
that's shitty urban planning, fuck ur parking garage
he was an asshole, he refused to pay his fines, bills and wouldn't agree to renovate the structure. he also gave it a brutalist aesthetic which looks so ugly.
Dude for some reason wanted to live above a decaying building. It would have collapsed. He should have gone to a nursing home. Would have had a better life there.
The padded tunnel sounds like a great place for a drunk person to sleep in after giving up on trying to get to bed
Oh Jean, you just made me crack my stuff! That was funny as HE//! : )
People irritate me so much sometimes. That building was gorgeous in its initial design, but they just had to add shit to it as well as let parts of it decay due to floors being rented to different tenants. And that god awful penthouse at the top was the final straw, and now the thing is just gone. Such a damn pity.
Mik Moen yea the boards added class to the place

What's the blurring around the 6:00 minute mark.
Probably to avoid a copyright claim of news footage of the storms
I was wondering the same thing. As this comment ist just a few days old: Was it added later? Was it added manual or automaticaly by some copyright claim?
@@schalotten pretty sure blurs are added in manually
@@m1nt_100 if the video was taken down for copyright violation an updated version of the video can be uploaded and reviewed. That's how they are able to blur out the part that were news footage

Excellent! I grew up in Cocoa Beach in the 70s and 80s - not too far from the Glass Bank. I met Frank Wolfe several times over the years and can even remember his original Wolfie's Seaside Resort on A1A. I may be a little late to the party here, but thanks for bringing back a lot of great memories.
That's sad that they took away that old guys home and then he killed himself bc that's all he had left
your point doesnt make any sense, also calm down american
@Hater Oftheleft Calm down... foking Stalin impersonator
Hater Oftheleft what the hell do you have against vietnamese!? also please stop being racist.
@Hater Oftheleft Can you just please shut the fuck up?
I lived 5 minutes away from this, I remember every time on the way to the beach passing by this, thinking it could be used for something amazing, my dad always would tell me all the stories about it. I'm now living in Missouri and surprised one of my favorite RUclipsrs picked up on something I lived so close to!
You should look into the passenger terminal at Montreal's Mirabel Airport. It was demolished last year, and was laid abandoned from passenger service since 2004.

Bammer2001 . OMG, didnt think i would ever see a splatoon fan here..lol. Do u like nintendo in general, or is it just that particular game? Do u have the switch?
I forget exactly how i even came across abandoned/Urban exploration videos, but been watching them for a few month. I think i was really depressed one night and just looking around Utube for something to cheer me up.
It's a freight airport now, and an aviation industry building site.
another amazing video

@Dylan Jacobs Fines for using the wrong type of wood to board up windows, and I am sure there were other out of ass ones along with that one too.....i would say LEGIT he owed 25g worth the fines the other 975g in fines were just bullshit made up ones in order to bully him out

damn dude, that was the most heart wrenching story behind a building
Used to live in the coco beach area when I was a kid. I always rode past it going to school everyday and it just fascinated me. Being such a great work of architecture, I wondered why is this place abandoned? Little did I know that it was a cultural icon and it had a tremendous backstory. There was a neighborhood in satellite beach constructed in the 50s& 60s that housed families stationed at Patrick AFB that boomed back in the day, I was one of the last people to live in those houses before they were all torn down. It’s a sad story really the space coast.. it was like the end of an era. Thank you for uploading this!!
I've been having a really shitty week and its not even over yet for me. This really did bring a smile to my face to see in my sub box. Thanks bright sun films

Assuming it stayed up for a couple more years at any rate...that place looked like it was gonna fall apart any day.
but they could have been fixed if allowed to.
He could've lived comfortably in his wealth elsewhere, not atop a rotting, defunct building where vermin and asbestos posed a public health hazard.
he was a satanist why feel bad
@@bigmcgee2846 No, he wasn't. The fuck?
OGlettuceWEED eh he was still an eccentric and weird guy

Jake I live close to this and never knew what on earth it was but now I know!! Good video
you might as well be a chad
Hey Bret! I wonder if you remember me! Lyn - crossword puzzles. I knew you when you lived on Atlantic @ 4th St S.
The story I heard was that Frank Wolfe tried to salvage his belongings from the top floor but couldn't access the freight elevator since power was turned off. Then, in desperation, he committed suicide.

What a horrible thing to do to someone.

I've seen every episode of Abandoned to this date, and this one is still my favourite. Such a beautiful building with such a tragic story...
Its a shame they didn't consider turning the penthouse into a tourist attraction for a while.
Another comment! Seriously, how many videos has this man commented on over the years?
You should do the Majesty Building in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Known to the locals as the I-4 Eyesore. An unfinished building that's been sitting there for 16 years.

Wow, that ending was much darker than I expected!
You do such a good job at your research, presentation and narration. I understand and truly appreciate the degree of work that goes into these and have really enjoyed them.
This episode made me think of two new opportunities for you:
The rise of University of Miami and that of UCF which I think is connected to this episode as this area was so heavily influenced by NASA and their space exploration.
Awesome work my friend.
I live in satellite beach, which is relatively close to cocoa. My family and I drove passed the building often and we always enjoyed looking at it. Around 2013-2014 we stopped taking that road since mostly because we had no reason to go that way. I just found out two months ago that it was demolished and I had no idea about the apartment or the suicide until now
That was an amazing condo. So corny and retro, you have to love it...
Jake, I was literally punching the like button!
such an amazing building with a really sad ending.... that city needs to be sued for bullying a citizen! :-\
RIP Wolfe....
FedeVids that citizen owed the city over a million dollars, the court would likely rule in the city’s favor
FedeVids also the building was becoming a public safety issue (asbestos, fire hazard) as well as a massive eye sore.
@Abbie - So the city council did the right thing by taking that mans home away?
Is that what you are saying?

that's what i was thinking. i hope he had his fun before he popped one in his head..... the '80s must have been wild in that penthouse.
Lucky? He went mad because he was living like a mole, no sun = no mental health
A space that became a health and safety hazard, it adds up perfectly

This is a very well done video. I've always felt the city government should've been charged with the death of Mr. Wolff because what they did to him, though their efforts to "steal" the building, is what caused his death.

I clicked because I knew I recognized that building from somewhere. Amazing that you could find so much data and footage of something that not even residents know that much about. An excellent video.
