- The Largest Resort on the Las Vegas Strip that NO ONE can Visit
Hey everyone! In this video, we are going to be talking about the largest resort on the Las Vegas Strip that NO ONE can visit, The Fontainebleau. Otherwise known as The Drew, this 63 story casino resort is an Urban Explorers paradise! This Abandoned Place was left to rot after the 2007-2008 subprime mortgage crisis. In this video, we are going to be discussing what happened to this immaculate resort, and why it failed to open after being 70 percent complete.
Very few Urbex Enthusiasts have been able to get video of the inside of this resort. Unfortunately, I am not one of the few who have been able to see the inside of the resort. Fortunately for you though, in this video I have put videos of people exploring this abandoned place! This Abandoned Resort is absolutely amazing on the inside, so make sure to watch THIS video to see what the inside looks like!
If you enjoy this type of videos be sure to let me know down in the comments below! Also, if you have any suggestions for future videos let me know! I will most likely end up making a video on it! If you enjoy Urbex/Urban Exploration Videos, or videos of people exploring abandoned places, be sure to subscribe down below! I film both exploring abandoned places videos, as well as these Urban Exploration Documentary Videos!

you live in Las Vegas and you don't know what the big buildings are, that are on the strip?
@@jfreeman1689 hi, other vegas local here. no, actually. most locals stay out of the strip and scattered around the city there’s casinos and resorts for locals and their families (out of city family members). like redrock and summerlin. its not restricted to just locals, but most tourists would like to stay in the strip. normally when we go to the strip its only for like a show or something or we’re just passing through. and since we’re locals, we don’t have to worry about casinos names and stuff.
@@dryftnxx I live in So Calif. and I know what's going on on the strip. The Strip is Las Vegas's lifeline and without the strip there wouldn't be a Las Vegas. I would think knowing what goes on in Vegas would be very important to everyone in Nevada.
@@jfreeman1689 I personally know the hotels names and whats on the strip, but this building in particular along with many others are just not important to us. Yes the strip is the heart of LV, but so are the locals and our communities. Normally us locals despise tourists anyways and with the hot weather here its just not worth going to the same attractions over and over. Not to mention, I just became a legal adult like 2 years ago, yet theres still not a lot for me to do. Locals have kids and kids just dont have a place here. Theres not much for them to do besides like AdventureDome or a waterpark. We acknowledge the importance of the Strip but after living here for most of our lives its just not interesting to us anymore. Also locals dont need to know what the names are either because we have our own place to live outside the strip. Im more familiar with South Point and RedRock casinos. Not the ones on the strip.

Nice to know what happened to that property. My friends and I traveled to Vegas monthly back in 2012 and that unfinished hotel was always sitting there looking really sad. I agree with your analysis, they started building that thing at the worst possible time, Vegas was wrecked by the crash in 08, but I'm glad to see that they got it back under construction.

Another thing worth noting: Your map has the Convention Center in it's existing spot. But it is set to expand to the old Riviera property which is now the parking lot directly south of The Drew. So the entrance won't be 1.5 miles. It'll be about 150 feet from door to door.

Parking in a 23 story garage? I think that would be PTSD inducing.
Considering most of the hotels in Vegas now charge $18 to park (even if you are staying in their hotel) 23 stories sound like a real money marker.
It would take forever to drive to the 23rd level. It’s also ridiculous since no parking garage needs that many levels (the highest on the strip is just 12 floors.... most are just 6-to-8)

Every time I visit Las Vegas there's always something different. Something added, abandoned or demolished. Overall, I still LOVE going to Vegas.
Yeah, I used to think "what more can they do? The Strip is done, complete, the way it is," then they add some other amazing thing. Take the upcoming $1.8B Sphere for instance...
I was just in Las Vegas two weeks ago and noticed this weird property that was completely abandoned. It actually looks sort of like a scene from a war-torn cityscape in a movie. VERY mysterious to me. But I forgot about it until I just stumbled upon this video. THANK YOU for the information. I love backstories to mysteries.
I’m sick of these boring modern hotels popping up. I mean don’t get me wrong, they’re beautiful, but I think one of the things that makes Vegas so unique are all of the themed buildings with beautiful architecture. Caesar’s Palace, Bellagio, Venetian, New York New York, etc. Sure, some of them may be cheesy, but gosh, now in 2018, if they were to make a cultural or geographically themed resort, it could be done SO WELL. Yet they keep building things like Aria and Mandarin. Again, beautiful no doubt, but they just aren’t special. You can find modern all-glass buildings in every city. Anyone else agree?
Parker - I'm going to take a wild guess that you're quite a bit younger than me (I'm 57). I wish you could have seen the old places in their hay day! Like you said, Caesar's Palace, The Desert Inn, Dunes, Sands, The Aladdin, The Landmark & even downtown! Back then, people actually knew each other & treated each other with respect. We'd get off shift at 2-3am & still go out & have a great night, finishing it off with a cheap steak & eggs breakfast. And it was a great steak too! Or, going to the Continental for crab legs or steak & lobster for $9.99. And that was only if you weren't comped! The last time I was in Vegas, it practically broke my heart going down the strip. All the class, nuance & "flavor" of Vegas has been stripped away. The Flamingo even tore down the old bungalows that were part of the original hotel. You would have LOVED the history & feel of the place. My family stayed in them on one trip. They all swore the place was haunted! I'm sure there are videos about them on YT or somewhere online. Check them out. You'll wish they were still there. Secret escape routes & all!
Parker don't visit or live in Vegas!
I agree all the Modern hotels are all carbon copies of each other that you can find in any major city across America.
What set Vegas apart was the individuality of each resort. Wait til they get rid of the Bellagio fountains to put another shopping mall up.
M M - I keep waiting for the "Motel 6 Resort"! I wouldn't be surprised at all if the fountains turned it a 'shopping destination'. I heard the old Treasure Island boat/pirate show was killed years ago. The light show downtown is unique but, too many players walk outside when it's shown so I'd be surprised if that's still going.
@@julie.1081
There was a rumor that they were considering taking out the fountains to put a shopping mall up since the fountains don't make money.
Mgm quickly dismissed it as a rumor however, you have to remember these are the same companies that charge a resort fee and now charge for parking. The charging for parking was also a rumor at first - look what happened. The stopping free drinks was also a rumor and look at whats happening so it wouldn't surprise me that this rumor was purposely out out there as to lesson the blow when they decide that they could make more money off a shopping center where the fountains currently sit.
I’ve been here since 2008 and it’s going to be pleasing to see new scenery and skyline.

Dude, It's opening in a couple weeks---let's goooo!! I remember watching this in 2018. And was feeling hopeful for this project to be revived. We here now boys
The north side is very tough to make into a functional place because
1. Far from airport.
2. Far from the biggest clubs and attractions.
3. Essentially in the hood.
4. Far from arena.
5. Far from the brand new stadium which is a big factor now.
6. Circus circus is an eyesore.
7. No tram connecting that far.
I honestly don't know if Resorts World can save the North.
Obvs what they want to do is make the strip go all the way to downtown.
Also look at all the casinos that have been demolished in that area of town since this project first began. The North End is not what it used to be. Even with Resorts World and if this gets ever gifts going which is doubtful it's not enough to draw people to that end of the strip.
Man it's crazy to me that that the North strip is considered far from the airport when your airport is literally right next to the strip, I mean how much closer can it get. In most cities airports are miles away from downtown because they need to avoid the high density residential areas and areas with skyscrapers and they look for low land value costs which only happens far away from downtown. Like do people just take a flight all the way to another city just to limit themselves to stay near the airport?
I’ve started going to the Sahara SLS when I go and while the hotel itself is quite nice the are by it isn’t. I wouldn’t leave at night by foot especially past the Strat. They gotta work in that image for sure.

We got hit real hard here in 2008 with the recession. A bunch of projects stalled or were cancelled and we lost a ton of jobs, homes and families. We are bouncing back and development is getting back on pace. Companies are growing, housing market coming back and new people moving into town again. The Strat has been under going a make over, SLS changing back to the Sahara, The Drew and Resorts World are back at building their projects. The North end of the strip is going to be a nice addition to Vegas tourism and hot spots. Vegas is rebounding and has some great things to offer for both the visitors and locals, Yes people do live here too !
I used to be a customer service representative for Bank of America in a call center. Short answer to what happened -- they signed a loan agreement with Bank of America that was read with rose colored glasses. When the market went south, about all it was good for was to cover their exposed backside, but not adequate to compel B of A to fund the rest of the project. Blame the lawyers who negotiated that contract and failed to advise their client before sinking >$1BN into construction that B of A was not really obligated to stick with the project.
Short answer to what happened. Obama happened
It was a risky venture (given the economic climate) anyway and when the project management that had the experience to pull it off left, Turnberry broke the deal, not B of A. I don't blame B of A. It's not the package they signed on for.
Good job, very informative.
Ex Vegas resident here, and worked at the Strat, ( Carl Ican owned it, and our other 3 properties, back then), as well as the old Sahara...you are 100% correct about the north end....they have been trying to 'clean up" that section of the Strip for decades.... with the long term goal of a Downtown/ Strip melding.
The more high end properties developed on the north end , like this one, and the old sahara, now SLS...the more attention future developers will pay to this area for future growth.
Recent data I have been looking over, show a slump in overall tourists revenues...these ups and downs occur often, but how long the "downs" continue, are worth watching.
The big problem, like always in Vegas, is the overall economy...rich folks will always enjoy Vegas...but Vegas survives on the regular, common tourists visiting in big numbers...averaging around 5- 6 million a year...if these folks begin to feel the pinch, Vegas is in trouble.
Believe it or not, Las Vegas is an excellent 'barometer" for understanding the bigger USA and Global economic picture...Vegas has it's tentacles all over the world.
I remember this hotel back in 2016 when I stayed at Circus Circus its been abandoned for so long... lets see what happens.
If I owned a high rise condo in Turnberry, I'd be pissed too. Starting at $200,000 up to $1,000,000. someone building and taking up the view I paid for; not to mention having a parking structure so close... well I'd be livid.
If Turnberry wanted to, they could’ve bought the air rights and maintained their views... they didn’t
You should do a video about the Jesus Miracle Chapel in Holopaw, Florida. We always pass it along 192 on the way back from Disney. One day we left earlier so we could explore the grounds a bit. Creepy, abandoned stuff. And lots of boats.
This guys channel is the only good thing that came out of the recession
There's a lot of properties that have the most ominous feeling you'd ever feel in your life and those properties seem to never really do too well or they sit abandoned...
Til this day I’ve always been curious about that building. 2019 and it’s still just sitting there.
Cassia J ....and isn’t that a shame!
"till this day!!!"-wilder
Wow what an amazing level of research and what a great explainer- and loved the way he pronounced "Fon tane' blu" (fon ten bluh' in French) so cute! This Jonah has a nice positivity, voice and enthusiasm.
Very interesting - well done!
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words! Thanks for checking out the video!
Thanks for checking out the video! Glad I could tell you about the drew!
This resort is sitting untouched and is watching resorts world getting built down the street 💀
As a Vegas local I appreciate that you answered so many of my questions about this building that had just been standing there untouched for years.
“The Drew” sounds like that white suburban boy trying to look like a hip hop artist who grew up in the inner city.
The 'Drew,' is already OVERDRAWN !
The Drew now isn’t going to open until 2022. 16 years after original groundbreaking!
Its not going to open ever. Cancelled indefinitely
Vegas to Cali yeah I heard that not long after the pandemic began. The original comment was from before it began
Now it sold again.
Walked by this place last week in Vegas and I couldn't figure out if it was mid construction or mid renovation. It looked both finished and in need of repair. Now I know the whole story. Thanks!
Very interesting... I live in Vegas and have seen and heard a ton about the new Drew... hope it works with resorts world opening across the street around the same time.
JSPADED 81 lol my friend... I am almost everywhere.....
I have no idea what this is doing in my recommend?
-Is this secretly the Lucky 38 in New Vegas?-
That billboard is wonderfully direct and refreshingly self-deprecating.
STAHP Yelling at me! I'm awake, okay?
I wish it stayed as the Fountain Bleau the Drew sounds dumb!
J G, Same.
Amen to that ! "The Drew" is a completely lackluster name !! :-(
Lived in Vegas for 7 years but never knew about this
I’ve seen the building all the time and it reminded me of the one building in gta
Never being finished

This building has been sitting here over 13 years😕
wow i didnt know it was that long thats a long time to sit vacant.
So wasteful.
@ @@loriloo1039 , What America does best, WASTE, so much waste. Plus humans in America kill at the drop of a hat..
No the building finished in 2008 or 2009 just 10 years
Great info, however the reporter did have one thing incorrect. Marriott has two other hotels on the strip at the South end. The Marriott Grand Chateau which is next to Planet Hollywood and the Aria which is across the street which is also a Marriott brand hotel.
Aria is not affiliated with Marriott in anyway. Cosmo on the other hand does have a partnership with them.
@@utubegary54 thank you for the clarification, my point still stands that it is not the only Marriott on the strip.
Re-Watching this in early 2021...
WOW.... this must’ve been constructed over an ancient Indigenous burial ground ,cause this place is CURSED 💀
Very nicely done. Enjoyed ALL your vids!
Thanks for checking out all the videos it truly does mean a lot! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed them all!
A slice of Miami Beach on the Vegas Strip...I can't think of anything worse
It’s already there though with the Delano and Tropicana (Cuba/Miami)
This was actually really interesting to watch, Well done bro
Thanks Ethan I appreciate it a lot! Also thanks for checking out the latest video man!
Goldenfinger, really? I missed that james bond movie.
Yeah, the Fon-Tan-Blue was in the film.
Milton Callan Tom Lewis' point is that there is no Goldenfinger movie. It's called Goldfinger
I guess my sarcasm was lost on you. And it's Fountain-Blue, not Fon-Tan-Blue.
I corrected numb nuts but complimented him on his good research... Golden Finger... that was a porn movie I think.
Dr Know. Never Say Never Twice. Casino Royal. Goldeye. Moonrake. For Your Ayes Only. The Word Is Not Enough. So many to choose from!
NAB Convention offers free shuttles from many strip hotels to the Convention Center, and I imagine the same setup is used for every other major convention. Monorail stops at many venues as well and can take you straight down to the LVCC in no time. That being said I prefer to walk and used to stay at the Riviera so I'll check this place out in April of 2024. I think this place is also walking distance to the Sphere, so this area of Vegas is gettin' better.
James Bond - Goldenfinger.
Is that a new movie? 😉
Finally back on track by the original owner after bieng sold 3 times. Wonder what happened with Marriott. Lol another video I guess.
I'm in Canada in an almost recession proof area of the BC coast, and in 2009 when the credit crunch hit, const. sites stopped completely in five days. Our company went from 114 employees to 14 in less than five months. It took nine or ten months for well positioned companies to resume building already approved/designed buildings. Things happening in finance in New York and London had an immediate and disastrous effect on us. And we're a tech, tourist, and major destination area. We continued our move upward but the body slam caught a lot of people with their proverbial pants down.
so victoria
@@ezioaugustus2621 What country???
@@dwightstjohn6927 Victoria Canada, that's where it sounds like you're from.
@@ezioaugustus2621 I spent an interesting year in 2011 in Victoria, BC just after the Olympics. The problem was that you either had deep roots (and a family based business covering two/three generations), or you were a government employee. Other than being insanely rich and having your second/third home on the island, there wasn't much to build on; I pretty much had to return to Alberta until I retired.
it’s 2020 time for an update video!
The comment on many hotels not focusing on convention attendees is not true. Convention business is huge in Vegas.
