Mr. Anderson it faced opposition in 2015 but they started construction in January of last year, but also the new parking structure he was talking about is also having opposition too, it's really annoying but the city is definitely going to help Disney build it and ignore the community for this one
I actually sat in those meetings discussing DCA's revamp in 2007, e.g., World of Color, Cars Land, etc. I got to see all the plans, and my team walked through a mockup inside the Vineyard Room. That was an exciting time to be working for Disney.
This was absolutely fascinating. I've always heard people talk about Westcot but didn't quite realise the scale of the planned park. Kind of disappointed that they didn't follow through with it… When you look at the success that Walt Disney World has brought to the Orlando area, it's hard to believe that residents of Anaheim wouldn't want something similarly profitable…
Peanut Turner I never knew about Westcott but I always wondered if Disney ever thought of expanding the Disneyland park.. And now learning that they had plans for a Westcott I'm so disappointed it never happened
You'd be surprised how many people who live in Anaheim hate Disney. They're a vocal minority, but still they portray them as an evil corporation or something.
I used to live in Orlando when I attended Full Sail University. I worked at Disney World, and most people in Orlando absolutely love Disney. I have since moved to Anaheim, and I live literally two minutes away from Disneyland. People here have a VERY different attitude about Disney. I doubt some of them even realize what's two minutes down the block. I don't know. Californians are weird.
Manny Luke This is what I don't get (and I probably don't have a clue what I'm talking about...) but I can see residents of a nice quiet rural town that has a large theme park or something on its doorstep complaining, like we always get residents of the tiny village of Alton here in the UK complaining about having the UK's largest theme park right on their doorstep (Alton Towers) and they have to jump through tonnes of loopholes like noise abatement and traffic flow and all that jazz just to keep these people happy in their peaceful rural village.... But AFAIK, Anaheim was basically just farming before DL came along. You'd think its residents would be more respectful and understanding/appreciative of the huge boon to their little podunk town that having the world's greatest theme park drawing in millions of dollars a year truly is....! The Californians could learn a lot from those Floridians.....
Yeah. I thought that too. Then I learned that most of the people who live here don't even speak a word of english. It's weird how people of different cultures respond differently to the same thing. I think that Disneyland can be as big and as great as Disney World, but the residents won't allow it. There's just too many people in the LA area. If Disney tries to expand, there'd probably be a riot
Jumanji Joe Maybe they should turn Riverside/San Bernardino/Bakersfield into a new Disneyland and enslave there residents into cast members. Would be an upgrade from where they are now.
Well...Disney couldn't for mainly 3 reasons. 1: It was an insane amount of Money just to build. 2: The City couldn't provided the Land. 3: Residents, and locals protested the plans. It was a cool concept, but it was just not possible.
Seems terrible, California Adventures is more dedicated to rides, which as a kid made me happy. This thing was almost like a large epcot which is basically just eating and buying stuff with a few rides so it's technically a park.
Jake, Pls do more abandoned retail. It's so cool and fun to watch. Also, considering your from Canada you could look into some big abandoned sites around the place like Maribel or Gentilly, that sorta thing. Thx 😁
Savage Aristocracy Maribel is an abandoned* airport near Montreal, Canada and Gentilly is a decommissioned nuclear power plant north of Montreal. *Maribel isn't abandoned but it was once left unused for years and is now a very small cargo hub.
I remember LOVING California Adventure when I was a kid. My family and I always considered it the "older kids" park. The new additions definitely helped though, and now it's almost entirely Pixar themed! Can't complain about that though

I like this man's voice, man. smfh every time I get a notification on Abandoned series I always like first before watching 20 seconds of the beginning because ik this man produces the best shit. His abandoned videos make me so happy lmao
I absolutely love these episodes about Disney. My grandfather Edward Thomas was one of the original Imagineers that helped design Disneyland. His big project was The Pirates Of the Caribbean ride. My mother told me she meet Walt Disney as a little kid. I am finally going to Disneyland here in a few months to see it in person. I have never been to Disney to see my grandfather's work due to the fact that i don't live in California anymore and i was pretty poor growing up so I never went to any amusement parks or vacation anywhere. Videos like these are special to me. Thanks dude!!!!
Ive read about that one part about Knott' s. Knott' s was considering selling off the park even with all the history in the making of Knott's and it's reputation of possibly being the world's first theme park. Knott's refused Disney's offer because Knott's didn't want their park to turn Disneyfied and consumed by it's characters and souvenirs, etc. Thus we still have separate parks. c:
Can you do a Video on Walt Disney's Mineral King. It was a planned ski resort that was never built. I heard about it first at the Disney Family Museum, but there are a lot of interesting twists that took place in the planning stage. Ronald Reagan was even involved...
Great video! I definitely think that WestCot isn't a lost cause, due to three factors: an impending water crisis / drought in California and the Southwest, resulting in lowered real estate prices; the explosive growth of Universal and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter; and Disney making billions off movies and merch in 2016. As Universal is steadily taking Disney's market share in the theme park industry, Disney may commit to building WestCot as an answer to Universal's WWOHP.
Universal CA is kinda garbage. Wizarding World only has TWO rides, and it's too close to Simpsons Land, which is a terrible idea. There's so much wasted space that they should be expanding into, but instead they're trying to keep brands popular 10-20 years ago hyped. Simpsons Land, Shrek 4D, and other areas make no sense to develop/maintain, when a larger, more impressive Wizarding World would make a better investment
But to be fair, the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm happened in 2012, and not only was the company under not so new leadership but Disney had already owned ABC, ESPN, Pixar, and Marvel, so thanks to Disney pumping out hits and gaining more profit from their parks and resorts and other divisions, they already had more than enough to buy Lucasfilm. So, if Disney wanted to do WestCOT or any of their other failed ventures, they could easily do that now.
Also don't forget that most nearby residents were split between building Westcot or opposed building it and even tried to sue Disney to stop it at some point
@@abelardoplatas1549 Disney should close down Disney Land and make it a vacant lot and then those protest monsters would be forced to close down all of their businesses because all the tourists would not be in the area anymore, then after they all have gone out of business, Disney can then buy up all of the other land around it and rebuild a bigger Disney Land!
Thanks for having these up to date, I was getting worried towards the end you weren't gonna mention the new parking structure/transit hub and thank you for using recent World of Color footage unlike Disney haha
Any time one of your abandoned episodes relates to Disney, I get so excited!!!!! I watch all of your episodes no matter what, but Disney is my passion so I love these episodes.
omg!! ur videos are just getting better and better! But i think your biggest "masterpiece" is the abandoned series... Keep up the good work m8!! #foreverafan
Awesome job man totally worth the wait. I am currently really obsessed with WESTCOT that I'm even making a model of it as if it was built today! Great Job once again!
I worked at California Adventure for the first 3 years it was open, doing cooking demonstrations at the Mission Tortilla Factory, and had fun doing that. I basically got paid to play with my food (though it was pretty much just for show). I actually liked Golden Dreams, and the music from it was really good (which I think you agree on since you used it as the background for the latter part of the video). While it was a bit corny in places, I was always fairly impressed that Disney didn't try to paint over the different languages used and utilized subtitles instead. Looking back, I think that's why I liked it so much, for once, Disney deliberately *didn't* go for the happy upbeat they normally do in an attraction. They did make one teensy little edit after the first couple months though: In the scene showing the railroad construction, they changed showing a father and son get blown up to a slow cross fade and the shouting drifting off into echoes.
omg... I have been sick for 2 days now.. And i discovered your channel about a week ago... AND I HAVE ALREADY SEEN AAAAAAAAAAL YOUR ABANDONED EPISODES! I'm getting totally addicted to these videos! keep up the good work!
I remember going to California adventure I think that year it opened or one year later. I agree, it did suck. I remember it felt boring and blah. I mean at the time there wasn't too many kid friendly rides, a section devoted to farming (like what?), a small hollywood section with mostly shops and two attractions and the general place was just not worth it. It was better to go to Disneyland where there was tons to do. It was trying to be this big thing and really failed. :/ I did remember one thing that a disney cast member or someone who worked for the park came up to me and my sister and did a mickey mouse voice. I barely remember the guy, but he had a suit and tie, short black brown hair, glasses, clean face and might have been a little heavy set. I don't remember if he was important or not, but he wasn't a actual cast member working at the park. That's really the only moment that stood out to me and I wish I remembered the guy's name because he had a name tag too. :/ I remember cause I think I was a little scared or uncertain of the guy. XD Like it was random that some guy came up to us and talked in a mickey mouse voice. : P
Luckygirl I never went to the old DCA but I do remember the commercials for it with the rock bear.. I always wanted to go. I've been to the new DCA twice. I like it but it's really small I walked around it in like 10 minutes max..
I went to California Adventure once - the year they opened the CA version of the Tower of Terror and wish they had done more to make the park like WDW in Florida. (And is it just me, or does the voice impersonating Rod Serling in the CA version of the Tower of Terror sound ... off ... versus the version in Florida?)
Watching this 4 years after it was posted and reading the comments about how much people did not like DCA. Now it’s one of their best parks. My uncle was on one of the crews for DCA. He worked on Grizzly River Run. I was to young at the time to remember the opening, but I’ll always get to say I went to the park opening.
This is excellent! I had no idea that there were any such plans. I was so glad when Michael Eisner left and that DCA was made into a much, much better park. Thanks for such a great video.
I began watching Abandoned around episode 5-6 and watched this channel and series grow. I had been suggesting WestCOT for so long, and after a while, I got interested in other parts of RUclips and stopped watching Abandoned. And, man, did I make a mistake. I recently came back to the series, only to find that, not only had about 10 more episodes been added to the series while I was gone, but my dream had come true. Jake had finally made the WestCOT episode. THANKS M8
Matt Yeah. Just like Disney America, this project abandoned because some ugly and stupid people yelling at Disney for no reason. I don't know what's bad about the old California Adventure. (except the replica that's put in the wrong place)
Would you be able to make a video about the history of California Adventure. The little snippet of its history towards the end of the video got me intrigued!
You know they could always still create the idea, right? Just like Port Disney, they can still... wait a minute. How come you didn't do Port Disney YET?
Another simply fantastic video. Thanks for all of your Disney ones! I look forward to viewing more of your videos which are always fun and VERY intensly deep of research.
Man it's been so cool to watch the production value of your stuff go up. your videos were cool back in the day but now they're fantastic! I'm a fan of the abandoned Disney stuff and abandonded science/government projects, like chernobyl. keep up the great work
I love how you go into such detail and history about each location. Thank you so much for making these videos and i hope to see many more of them in the future.
It really is sad that this never came to be. It would have been so awesome for some of Epcot's classic attractions like Journey into Imagination and Horizons to have received west coast versions, even if they were going to be significantly different from the originals due to the obvious space limitations. Thankfully, the park that replaced it has come a lot closer to feeling like a proper Disney park in recent years, so I'm not quite as bummed out over this not being built anymore.
I love your Disney videos. It's incredible how many abandoned ideas/parks Disney has. All the abandoned places are cool to think about though, sometimes it takes me solid minutes to wrap my brain around some things you say in your videos regarding the abandoned videos :0 Keep them up though!
So annoying! I really wanted the Westcot park to be a thing when I heard about it back at the time it was all going down, and The original California Adventure was very disappointing by comparison. I'm glad they've spent the money to improve it though. I've always thought the concept of a California Adventure park in California was kind of silly. As you said, with all the locations they were depicting just a few hours away, why not just go see the real thing? It's a shame the original concept never worked out.

Agreed. BSF does their research.
Jesus Christ, can Disney EVER stick to a theme park plan?
Mr. Anderson they couldn't because of resident opposition, Star Wars land is facing the same issue

Disney should just buy all of Anaheim and turn it in to one big themepark. They could force the inhabitants to work in the park.
Jumanji Joe Maybe they should turn Riverside/San Bernardino/Bakersfield into a new Disneyland and enslave there residents into cast members. Would be an upgrade from where they are now.
Jumanji Joe That would be awesome. There could be worse things right, Disney has some great perks.
It would be called Anal Kingdom
Sounds like the boondocks
Haha yes!
Man, that Golden Gate Bridge replica is beyond pathetic.
JoshBadWriter That sums up DCA when it first opened
JoshBadWriter Gladly, it was changed when the revamp happened.

This is your finest video yet! Keep up the good work!! :)
Thanks!
This is excellent! I had no idea that there were any such plans. I was so glad when Michael Eisner left and that DCA was made into a much, much better park. Thanks for such a great video.
Abandoned Disney the reason why I subbed
Genuinely disappointed that these plans never came to fruition. it looked amazing!
Thank you for this video, just awesome! Actually one of my favorite ones you have done.
+London Kate Thanks!
When you forget that its Friday and its time for a new Abandoned...... yesssss! Thanks Jake and crew!! keep it up!!
They should have made this .California adventure is boring.
this would have become outdated so wuickly and now gone the way of half of epcot being abandoned
THANKS M8
Amazing vid! I loved it, Disney's wescot sounds amazing. Well lets hope for the future!
Matt Yeah. Just like Disney America, this project abandoned because some ugly and stupid people yelling at Disney for no reason. I don't know what's bad about the old California Adventure. (except the replica that's put in the wrong place)
Matt Disneyland is way too small for Westcot. Maybe it'll work at Disneyworld
Matt that's what I keep saying about Beastly Kingdom, face it Matt neither of our dreams will come true *weeps*
it becomes cooler and cooler everytime you make an episode
Once i saw this channel i finished most of your vids in 2 days
Charles alfaro They need to be more often.
I know but they are hard to make and hard to come up with more ideas
wow I'm not sure if I just been gone for I while or you have really improved in a kinda short time great work keep it up
Would you be able to make a video about the history of California Adventure. The little snippet of its history towards the end of the video got me intrigued!
I can't stop watching this video! Keep up the great work, Jake!
How many abandoned Disney projects were there? Great video, sir! Keep up the great work
You are the best RUclipsr and make the most interesting videos BrightSun Forever
Can you please do Gimbel's department stores? Great video by the way
Neko ねこ Yeah that's a good story.
Gimbal's!
Thanks for the shoutout! Glad I could help with your video!
I love your vids! I can tell that there is a lot of research and many hours that goes into each of these vids!
This series is amazing! Thank you for all your hard research and reporting :)
Hot damn this channel is just so awesome, and Jake is a wonderful narrator.
Another great abandoned video! WestCOT looked like it would've been so cool~
There is a nine hour drive from Anaheim to San Fransisco, not "just a few hours"
Its a 6 hour drive and it's within a days drive, which was the point I was trying to make.
You should try it and see how that goes for you. Maybe some traffic, who knows.
Christ, give the guy a break. That's not even what the video is about.
Jake, I need more new Abandoned videos. Like once a week. Love your videos tho keep it up, Big fan here.
You know they could always still create the idea, right? Just like Port Disney, they can still... wait a minute. How come you didn't do Port Disney YET?
You're onto me
Wait, I have an idea? Can I do a collaboration with you as an Abandoned episode talking about Port Disney.
Another simply fantastic video. Thanks for all of your Disney ones! I look forward to viewing more of your videos which are always fun and VERY intensly deep of research.
I liked your story, my first of the day. I was living in Orlando during this time. Thx!!
Man it's been so cool to watch the production value of your stuff go up. your videos were cool back in the day but now they're fantastic! I'm a fan of the abandoned Disney stuff and abandonded science/government projects, like chernobyl. keep up the great work
Disney California Adventure 2.0 is very awesome!
It is. Practically a different park from he first version.
I love how you go into such detail and history about each location. Thank you so much for making these videos and i hope to see many more of them in the future.
Outstanding research Jake!
Thanks so much!
Wow, this sounded so much better than California Adventure. Pity.
Another fantastic video, great editing and media presentation.
And now, we wait and see what they do with their " star wars expansion ."
Literally wait for these videos FOR EVER! It's so satisfying!
Here's a good topic for the next episode: ShowBiz Pizza Place.
AubreySciFi That really is key. People want to experience exotic places they normally wouldn't get to visit.
Wow, great Abandoned! My favorites are the Disney Abandoned. Keep up the great work BSF! :)
