This has got to be one of the most insane challenges of a Final Fantasy game I've ever seen. Most challenge runners do challenges where they are limited in what they can do, but any action they don't take doesn't count (i.e. you could use save spheres and absorb elements to keep your health topped up). The fact that you set the rules as no heals period, and managed the whole game minus a tutorial fight with those rules is insane. Congratulations on making this work so well; also, turning a "no ****" run into a "minimum ****" run is always a great idea. Hopefully you or someone else manages to get past the first heal and prove that it's possible to complete the entire game without healing, that would be insane.
Genuinely impressive - i like going for it and just counting the heals (quote unquote fails) rather than killing the challenge outright. Between that and the fact you *probably* could try and get that RNG to get through that one fight, i consider this a huge win.
He definitely could have. There is a NI (No Items) challenge category which forces you to reset until you to get the right RNG. (I'm not saying he should have done that.)

Hey primal, you should have bought some capture weapons because when you capture all the mobs in calm lands you get the chest with yuna's celestial weapons, and since you get the moon crest at the beginning you can have her weapon upgraded once BEFORE Seymour on the mountain which means your valefor can then hit for 85,000 damage and one shot that fight...... an interesting tidbit of information is aeons with elemental absorption can grind overdrive gauges on enemies with the same elemental affinity if they have nul-element they absorb or just heal without gaining overdive guage(every other aeon gain can overdrive mode the same way with nul-element and being hit by that element).
I remember as a kid I got stuck like 3 separate times (as in, having to restart the game because I was ignorant of certain aspects of gameplay). The last time I got so sick I grinded all the way to hell and back in Besaid. When I got to the Oblitzerator with thundara (yeah really) and found out it didn't work on the crane I remember feeling like I had transcended the limits of what the developers expected a stable and well adjusted human being to do. Btw as an aside, the reason why I kept getting stuck was because I only leveled strength, magic power and HP since I thought the other stats were a waste of time. I also almost exclusively used aeons since I was afraid of seeing my characters die. You've no idea how cursed a 8yo's sphere grid can be and for how many hours they can watch the Valefor cutscene before realizing short mode is a thing.
You can access the airship without using a save sphere, just head back to Kilika from wherever you are and take the right hand branching path from where you get off the boat
@@rustybreville95 I thought the exact same thing as well, but after giving it two attempts, once with the airship parked at Besaid (because it was a close area and I didn’t want to have to run all the way back from the Calm Lands) and once with it parked in Kilika itself, neither would let me. There’s an invisible wall in the way that prevents you even though it totally looks like it should work.
probably one of the most insane challenge runs you've done.. it was so unfortunate to see that you had to heal at baaj temple to even stand a chance at the fight. i really enjoyed seeing how you'd defeat each boss, i can also only imagine how many game overs you got from random encounters.
yea abusing auto saves and hoping for no ambushes slowed me down so much, once i got to guadosalam though and could get first strike it wasnt to bad on the random encounter front
So this challenge quickly devolves into cheese strats if you really want to go after even endgame bosses. As shown in the video, infinite gil is easily achievable even in the early game. Between the time when you have access to Spare Change and when you can get the Wings to Discovery at Remiem Temple every boss goes down to 2 max damage hits of Spare Change except Evrae and Seymour Natus who take 3. With 3 First Strike weapons, fairly trivial to obtain through Blitzball, this means that every boss during this period can be defeated damageless. Isaru's Aeons obviously are an exception to this, but this very video shows that isn't a problem and that they can be beaten damageless as well. Once you have access to Trio of 9999, you can use that and Attack Reels to defeat Defender X, and then do that again on Yojimbo. Now with your full health and infinite wealth, Yojimbo can Zanmato every boss in the game that Yuna can fight. I believe the only boss fights where this won't work are Biran and Yenke, each of whom should go down to a single Spare Change apiece (unless you have purposefully grinded Kimarhi's HP to 7500 or higher before fighting them, and as shown in the video it is perfectly reasonable to expect to get 2 turns to murder them before they can even act), and Shinryu in the Monster Arena since the fight is underwater. As long as you don't activate any HP spheres your health will stay at max and you can freely use the airship to explore Omega Ruins and capture monsters and get all the Celestial Weapons and whatever else you feel like doing. You could even grind up everyone's stats with Clear Spheres and Monster Arena sphere prizes to max out all their non-HP stats and make facing Shinryu without Yuna a feasible goal. Really the early game is the only part where this challenge is difficult, and unfortunately likely even impossible because of the tutorial at the start.
Regarding Sinspawn farming on the boat, you don't actually need haste. The first Sinspawn to act will always charge for Spines, so you can pretty easily get in to a sequence where you kill all but 1, it charges, you get 3 kills (the one charging and 2 new ones), leaving one alive, it charges, etc. Cheer is required for Kimahri (and realistically Tidus/Wakka) to oneshot, but not haste. Regarding needing First Strike on Tidus to avoid the misery of random ambushes forcing a reset, O'aka sells an Initiative weapon for Auron right before Sinspawn Gui, meaning Tidus just needs to be able to outspeed (which I'm certain he will based on the number of levels gained from the boat) to always be able to Flee.
so specificly for the sinspawn, without haste there is a very very low chance that the sinspawn will be able to land a hit, granted its only like 1 every half an hour but haste means you can automate the grind and never have to worry about ever taking damage during it. as for the initiave weapon, i did get that but didnt think to use him with tidus
Too late now, but if an Aeon dies, it will regenerate after a set amount of battles (you can see this on the Aeon screen in the menu). Think justified ingame as the fayth regrouping/regenerating.
Fun fact: my first ever playthrough of FFX, I got the 0.0.0 chocobo race time on my SECOND ever attempt On my second playthrough, I spent over 10 hours of attempts
“We’re not going to play around with semantics here” [immediately gets into semantics over healing HP vs. status effects] Jk jk, Great video and I love your channel! ❤
@@Primalliquid92 I think I can do it, but I will need more heals as I don't think I can devote an 8 hour run on the kilika boat. Out of curiosity, was that 8 hours done in real time or was it using a speed up booster?
Whenever you use Yojimbo, I highly recommend always paying 8,192 gil, as that gives the highest effective chance for Zanmato at all times for gil spent
The minigames in this game were really annoying, but the worst one in my opinion was dodging the lightning bolts. It is one of the worst things in the game, and also one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in a video game, right up there with the 12 hour game time limit for getting Excalibur 2 in FFIX (but in that case, that was hardcoded by someone who was fed up with Square and did it to get back at them). I have no idea what dodging lightning bolts would even have to do with unlocking the true power of an ultimate weapon. I'd think that you would actually HAVE to get hit to power it up. Zhane had to get hit in Power Rangers in Space to power up his morpher. So it isn't really all that weird. Plus, if I was making the game, I'd give an automatic Game Over for getting struck by lightning in that area, in order to scare the player away from getting hit, but then once you get Lulu's weapon, only THEN do you go back and deliberately get hit to power it up. I think that would have been just as good, because few people would guess to do it.
@@SBaby the fact that Excalibur II was hardcoded is super interesting. I’d like to read up on that. Can you give me a hint on what to google? I can‘t find anything about that.
@@thpl2141 I don't remember where I saw it (this was early 2000s internet), but the fact that it's on a separate timer from the in-game clock is why there isn't a Gameshark or Codebreaker code out there that can reliably override the time limit. Codes that claim to do this only end up freezing the in-game timer, but not that timer for the sword.
Does reviving your Aeons by fighting battles count (aka that one mechanic that no one has ever used ever since the number of battles required is so high you'll inevitable reach a save sphere earlier)?
Hey woah woah woah. It's been a long time since I played FFX, but I most definitely do not remember a Sinspawn fight on the Kilika boat ride (14:57). Was that added in the remasters or PAL versions, similar to the Dark Aeons, or am I horribly misremembering?
Calling you out.... Based on formula for evasion of enemy attacks, Tidus should have a 20% chance to dodge Klik's attack. .2 to the 7th power equals out to 128 in 10,000,000 or 1.28 in 100,000. Even if the formula has some wiggle room and it's only got a 10% chance to evade the attack, that still works out to 1 in 10,000,000. This is extremely unlikely to happen yes, but still much better chance than hitting the lottery. Euro Millions is 1 in 139,000,000 while the US Powerbball is 1 in 292,000,000 and US mega millions is 1 in 302,000,000.
Another great video and it made me wonder. In each Final Fantasy game are you able to beat them without ever actually taking damage and if not what's the fewest number of instances of damage/lowest amount that you are forced to take? Also, I agree with Daph, we NEED a Bahamut challenge, perhaps once she gets hired full-time you could reward/torment her with an overload of dragon goodness/cruelty.
I'm still in blind, but even I can tell you how crazy well you can avoid taking damage altogether. Zero times is impossible when I only think of Demi and that Geo beast, but someone really needs to test the counter for this sometime. Great idea for a challenge! 👏
He definitely got himself overpowered. Even I who still play the game blind without any forced grinding feel overpowered. I'm past Seymour Flux without a single Game Over yet.
like it's shown in the video but gil throw giving you 9999 damage for 100k means you can pretty much one shot every enemy until they get phases or upgrading Yuna's strength for Bahamut to do over 10k early
Oh, idea! Doing challenges with a known mod. Nothing super grindy like PBird but more like New Threat - can you beat it with Aerith only. Or a random mod on any of them - can you beat it with just items? Technically as it is random someone somewhere could but can I? Etc.
Primalliquid is a cool guy. BTW I'm recently replaying through the original FFXII, and I'm afraid of fighting Yiazmat. I just beat Hell Wyrm and that took like 30 mins to an hour (I'm not sure), and Hell Wyrm only has like 9 mil HP, but I'm still building my characters and getting gear so ideally I can beat Yiazmat in 2-3 hours.
yiazmat can be cheesed pretty easily as you can leave the battle arena so dont worry to much just make sure you have a few hours spare if you wanna do it all in 1 go. (you can save while fighting him)
@@Primalliquid92 Ye, I know, I've killed him in the zodiac age version, that takes like, 15 minutes. I know how to fight Yiazmat, it's just that idk if I have the endurance to fight him for 2 hours straight lmao.
i knew a minimum counter would kinda be needed since using a save sphere is the only way to go back to the airship, and unless you plan to hoof it everywhere after landing once its kinda needed.
thats actually what i thought aswell, turns out though that if you stick strictly to the story you dont need to interact with the save sphere for the required airship travels
In bevelle why not use your grid spheres and just skip the HP nodes? You can complete the grid there and had a much easier later half with insane stats.

I'm gonna say 6 heals are needed, as I've done something like this already! I'm watching to see how you faired on this challenge also!
Oh this should be a good one! Just starting. I tried the items only run but didn't have the patience to get through the initial grind lol
items only can be a little brutal early on yea
@@Primalliquid92 ya and I was playing my PS3 version so no speed boost. I think I got about 20ish hrs in before I just burned out 😅
ouch yea the boosters are a god send for the speed up and a battle every other step
"oh ne hes up to shenanigans again" *microwaves popcorn*
Just commenting to help cos this nutter deserves
Do you use Expert Grid or Standard Grid for these challenges or in general?
The ff10 challenges are always great to watch.
Too late now, but if an Aeon dies, it will regenerate after a set amount of battles (you can see this on the Aeon screen in the menu). Think justified ingame as the fayth regrouping/regenerating.
i know but that felt a little to cheap to use to my advantage
Fun fact: my first ever playthrough of FFX, I got the 0.0.0 chocobo race time on my SECOND ever attempt
On my second playthrough, I spent over 10 hours of attempts
“We’re not going to play around with semantics here”
[immediately gets into semantics over healing HP vs. status effects]
Jk jk, Great video and I love your channel! ❤
Beautiful video!
I love this challenge idea. I'm looking forward to giving this challenge a try
absolutely should!
@@Primalliquid92 I think I can do it, but I will need more heals as I don't think I can devote an 8 hour run on the kilika boat. Out of curiosity, was that 8 hours done in real time or was it using a speed up booster?
ok im saving this just for the chocobo race maps. those will be handy!
Whenever you use Yojimbo, I highly recommend always paying 8,192 gil, as that gives the highest effective chance for Zanmato at all times for gil spent
It takes you 4 attempts at the chocobo race, but it takes me like 4 hours 😂😂
just lots of practice
It took me 4 nervous breakdowns -_-
Does reviving your Aeons by fighting battles count (aka that one mechanic that no one has ever used ever since the number of battles required is so high you'll inevitable reach a save sphere earlier)?
I like Daph's idea of a Baha solo run. Maybe whenever her birthday is as a treat if there's a mod to do that?
Any thoughts on more character specific runs? Like only Yuna or Lulu?
Hey woah woah woah. It's been a long time since I played FFX, but I most definitely do not remember a Sinspawn fight on the Kilika boat ride (14:57). Was that added in the remasters or PAL versions, similar to the Dark Aeons, or am I horribly misremembering?
I believe you can play blitzball without using a save sphere by interacting in the aurochs changing room
Euro Millions is 1 in 139,000,000 while the US Powerbball is 1 in 292,000,000 and US mega millions is 1 in 302,000,000.
regular lottery in the uk i think is 1 in 26 million, so yea ok still less likely to win, but hey not super far off
I like the counter and minimum heal goal as a result of failing the original challenge. I predict 3 heals before Besaid, and 3 after.
Heh, I missed the clue, I guess. Good run. I'm slightly surprised you didn't go back to that silly billy in the tutorial fight out of curiosity.
It's not as bad as he says with better odds of winning the lottery, but still so low chance of it happening as to be impossible in practice.
Stay away from the summoner
Great video
I didn't knew you can beat the game without tpuching the sphere😮
One hell of a Challenge Run!!
heck yea!
technically , being ko at 0hp. and being revived to 1 hp is an health increase that could have been prevented :)
"Grind a little so that I'm strong but not overpowered."
Proceeds to destroy game with many enemies getting no turns at all.
That happens naturally anyway. Most standard battles are meant to be beaten by one turn of specific party members each.
Will u an ff6 challenge soon not seen you do many of them
Yes
This
7:40 , I'll say around 30 times. There are many enemies that cast magic before you get -proof armors, and magic can't be avoided(?).
Not first... but second and here!
Ngl could have sworn there were more story heals. Wow
Hello not first but second... hope your day/night is going well, let's enjoy a solid vid 😊
Is the next challenge going to be the same, maybe with a twist but Nuzzlocke rules?
Oh, idea! Doing challenges with a known mod. Nothing super grindy like PBird but more like New Threat - can you beat it with Aerith only.
Or a random mod on any of them - can you beat it with just items? Technically as it is random someone somewhere could but can I? Etc.
i do wanna bring some mod ideas into it eventually for sure
Haven't seen a video of it yet on RUclips, but what about FF12 Machinist / Guns only?
I don't trust saving in the middle of the fight, I know you can, but, still I dont trust it.
18:48 Why is Tidus staring right into my soul?
3 weeks late, seen the thumbnail, my initial rhought, " Oooooooh "
Hearing i may try the dark aeons,
My sexond thought " Oooooooh lala "
Quick someone made a mod that's only cloisters to mess with Primal
Thanks, that made me laugh like a crazy person in public 😅
Great idea... I would do it if I knew the first thing about modding
I wish I could do that but I'm too dumb to make mods
The entire game is filled with increasingly complex orb puzzles on every screen. With random encounters.
@@mesothelimoa341 it wouldn't even need random encounters, even reskins of Bevelle trials would work
Could you upload the full playthrough?
i knew a minimum counter would kinda be needed since using a save sphere is the only way to go back to the airship, and unless you plan to hoof it everywhere after landing once its kinda needed.
thats actually what i thought aswell, turns out though that if you stick strictly to the story you dont need to interact with the save sphere for the required airship travels
In bevelle why not use your grid spheres and just skip the HP nodes? You can complete the grid there and had a much easier later half with insane stats.
What a cool challenge man. Thanks for giving me the guidance to play the Pbirdman mod, I have the battle against Penance on my page if you ever want to check it out, Primal!
Thanks I love it
