4:30 when you talked about what they do when it snows, it reminded me about earlier this winter (January, I think) when people were skiing and snowboarding down the opera house! There should be some videos out there :)
FYI, the ferries take you to the islands of the inner Oslo fjord. On a working trip back from China I visited a Dutch friend who'd immigrated to Norway, and we took a ferry one day to Hovedoya Island ... very pretty.
The gnome as you call it, is a Norwegian mythical figure called a Trol. They have loads of folk stories about them. Norway is my favorite vacation destination.
"We just opted to get both, because... gluttony..." I love people who can poke fun at themselves. So glad you enjoyed my city. You have a new follower :) (Because you're funny, not just because you spoke well of Oslo) ;)
This is the totally wrong time of the year to be in Oslo, but at least you got some sun. (I'm living in Oslo). The snow conditions in the woods are not good, and the streets are not cleaned up after the winter. They will be cleaned before May 17th every year.I liked your video, though. I hope you come back in the middle of the summer (or in August). Then the city shines. The Tiger is because if the city's nick name, the tiger city. The reason is strange, though.
About that tiger: Tigerstaden is a nickname for Oslo, inspired by Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson's poem Last Song (later called Godt Mod) from 1870. It is a name that refers to Oslo as a dangerous and merciless metropolis. In the poem, Bjørnson depicts a battle between a country's horse and the city's tiger. The expression was quickly adopted in newspapers.
FYI Norwegians Are really the last people who normally sits next to strangers in restaurants or anywhere for that matter😅We Are often scared and uncomfortable close to strangers in my experience.
Did you have to pick up your suitcases during layover? I am flying in June with 10 hour layover and wanted to check out the city really fast, but didnt I had to get bags
We did have to pick up our bags, which probably was for the best. Less chance of them getting lost overnight before we hopped on our next plane. But you’ll want to check with your particular airline because they’re probably all different.
Why were you just for such a short period there? 72 hours would give you more time snd space. Anyway I'm watching your channel with lots of fun. Nice to see how you ecperience live in The Netherlands. Keepup the good work😃👍
We were on our way to somewhere way up north (next video!), and we saw flights that had these overnight layovers… and seized the opportunity! We could easily spend a week in Oslo, it was fantastic! Thanks for the kind words!
I think the best Norwegian hot dogs (pølser) are in the gas stations and Narvesen kiosks. :) I have never tried mixing whipped cream and brown cheese before. :) We often have brown cheese on our bread also. That was a Norwegian troll there. :) They are part of ouf folk tales of old. I don't like them though. Glad you guys liked Oslo. Oslo is known as "tigerstaden", meaning the city of the tiger.
Oslo looks beautiful. It's almost as if everything is well thought of, designed to look nice and work well. The Norwegians make the rest of the world look like rubbish. I know that Norway is a rich country and that makes things so much easier. The keyword probably is: taxes. Yes people pay high incometax but look what they get in return? Why does the world not learn from this?
So when are you moving? Nha I'm just teasing. We all know you will never leave this country of stroopwafels and free tulips. @@nateandkatrinadotheworld
All our kiosks have hotdogs like 7/11, Deli Deluca and Narvesen🫠 But not “traditional”. We don’t eat traditional foods here unless a specific cultural event or Xmas. At least compared to other countries as it’s seen as old fashioned and we are very fashionable people🤣🤣🤣 I was the last generation (Millennial) growing up in the 90’s and 2000’s that grew up eating traditional Norwegian foods. Gen Z doesn’t even know what traditional Norwegian food is unless foods eaten at Xmas or on our constitution day… we normally eat international foods like Mexican, Japanese, Korean, Italian, American, Thai, Viet, Indian, Turkish etc. The list goes on. My parents who are in their 70’s they still eat traditional foods.
Why is it that women always complain that things are smaller than they expected, but then admit it's still kinda cool? (I'm referencing the Scream, of course) Edit: and the creature outside the souvenir shop is a Troll. They generally range in size from child-size to skyscraper size, and much like Tolkien mentioned in his famous works they usually turn to stone when exposed to the sun.
Nice video...love the jazzy music in the bakground 😊
Thanks for watching!

Oh no! Sometimes we just compare things to what we are familiar with. 😬 We hope we didn’t offend you with that comparison! It was very good!
@@nateandkatrinadotheworld you didn't haha, I just thought it was funny, as long as you don't call our chocolate "kvikk lunsj" a kitkat!!

@@letterboxfilm No, the origin is unsure. Some say it is from Bjørnson, others say it is from Daae, others say it is unknown.
