Virgin Media Stream | 4K TV Streaming Box

- Testing the Virgin Media Stream box, a TV streamer to rival Roku, Sky Glass and other entertainment providers, with 4K HDR smarts. A £35 one-off fee is all the Stream will cost you, while Virgin Media will also consolidate your subscription costs for Netflix, Disney Plus etc. And even give back 10% of your final fees! This hands-on review covers the voice search, UI and main features.
Of course, to use the Stream you'll need to be a Virgin Broadband customer, which eliminates a large portion of potential customers. Like Roku and Sky Glass, the Virgin Stream can't record live TV, but you do have access to plenty of channels and all the big streaming apps.
Voice search smarts aren't as smart as we'd like, with no internal searching for apps outside of RUclips. Here's hoping that feature will be updated soon. We do like how you can set up your own profile on the Virgin Media Stream for recommendations and channel hopping, however. That remote control is big but offers up all the features you'd need.

Nice to see you making a video on this box!
This box in some European countries (The Netherlands, Poland, etc.) actually has cloud recording of local Tv stations in those countries hence the recording button.
In Poland? are you sure?
Can you help me? Does it only work on a 4K TV? I have one now free with my broadband package and it ain't working and my TV down stairs isn't 4K so I was wondering if that's the issue however the welcome screen comes up then it goes blank🤷♀️
can you use for existing subscription accounts or does access require order/ payment via virgin
Where does the lan cable go I have. A socket in wall which was supplied has a usb and LAN port ..do I plug lan cable in and then to my tv
If you need to be on virgin broadband for this to work would a mesh wifi system in between the stream box and you virgin media hub affect this?
Enjoyed the video.Does it have adverts? I have Virgin but was looking for something that has fewer adverts.
I have a question can the Crunchyroll and HiDive app be put on there?
RUclips on my 360 box doesn't display HDR but the other video apps do like prime, netflix and Disney plus. Anyone else noticed this problem with the RUclips app on the virgin box.
Is the itv hub hd or sd when Watching content thanks
Looks like it's being launched to get ahead of the release of the stand alone SKY Glass puck. They recently announced they would be releasing that without having to buy the TV too. The interesting thing here is the pricing as Sky haven't announced that for their satnd alone puck yet. Probably something similar, but I would be surprised if Sky limit you to only using their broadband.
IM ONLY GETTING error cs1011 ???
Virgin - Media Router is a tower & very fast reliable but wont work even with the Ethernet built-in to there plug ???
any answers plz !!!

Is there another android media box that has a freeview live tv system installed? I have been looking and waiting for years but unable to find. Why are android boxes etc reluctant to install? is it to costly?
I'm hoping to find out when they come to refit all on Saturday they came on the 26th and it wasn't working when they left
I really want to know more about this thing... When adding subscription services, do their channels show up in the guide as seamlessly? With channel up/down browsing through them etc.?
Virgin Media seem reluctant to promote it in any way, so little information from them! Right now I'm being charged over £100 for my package but recording is less and less important (and inferior on TV360) so this could be a better fit for me with just a few Sky channels added.
When is it available in rep of Ireland customers
This would be great for someone I know who loses TV signal when the weather turns. I'd use this if it had the ability to cast from my phone, much like my Roku Stick.
Is this a tivo box, android or what's the os
Good review you mentioned why remote has a record button. Remote is the Virgin 360 remote. I've got a virgin 360 box sound the same remote. What Virgin have done thay have included the the Virgin 360 remote with the stream instead creating a new remote
Hiya thanks for the review on the streaming box. Family & I were thinking of buying it for our 4k box in the other room but since you've mentioned that it can't record on there, we might have to think it over a little.
Also you are bloody well funny so I've got a nice laugh out of it so thanks for that as well.
Only problem I have with it is it’s only 4k on the new hdmj standard 2.2 and the software is very lacking. So not many movies to rent too sadly. Love the remote being like the fire stick too controlling the tv.
Is it available without carpet on the top?
So is this basically the successes to the old virgin tvbox that looks like hub 3 and 4
Nice timing, I've just ordered my box :)
The remote is exactly the same one as they're shipping with the TV 360 hardware, I just got sent 2 to upgrade my TiVo boxes to TV 360, so they're just recycling the remote with the streaming service.
The remote is not exactly the same, the stream remote is slightly smaller and does not have the backlit buttons the 360 remote has.
whats the difference between this and having a smart tv ?
I tried to order one today. They told me no as I already have a tv package with them.
Does this have Bluetooth or audio connection?
It’s a shame there isn’t a micro SD slot, or some internal storage for recording. I think this is a good bridging box for older people to get into pay per service content. Otherwise, stick to Apple TV, fire stick, or your internal smart tv features.
Do you have to pay for this service
So you cant record live t.v, and if the wifi is down then essential theres no tv channels either 🤔 might aswell just have broadband as you can access all those apps without having to pay £36+ and stick to freeview through the old ariel, good review but unfortunately i dont see the benefits of having the streaming service 😕
Does it have Google play store
Can you please do a rewiew on the OPPO RENO 7 PRO?
The reason for the red button on the handset is because this is the same remote used by the VM V360 box. :-)
What about virgin TV 360? I have a mini box and we upgraded our V6 to 360 yesterday. and I was wondering if you've found anything interesting that I may have missed?
To me this is a game changer, I personally got the box free and it is more than a Roku box as it gives a comprehensive live tv section… also you get access to the benefits of virgin tv like catchup of itv / c4 etc direct from the interface so you can skip the ads … it has a well planned Horizon Interface and let’s you use your own tv… this is a million times better than sky glass to me. Also if you bundle your tv in you get a 10% discount with no tie in… altogether a great step by Virgin
same with me, got an apple tv which is cool but that can’t do live tv
How did you get it for free?
Take out a contract @@richsmart321
@richsmart321 live chat them make an excuse up you cant pay a upfront fee they should drop the fees for you they did with me mines coming today
Can someone answer a question for me? The feature I am looking forward to most is that the channels we get on Freeview in standard definition are HD on the Stream device (like ITV2, More 4 and so on). Do these channels also offer HD on catchup as well? ITV Hub, for example, is resolutely SD on Apple TV, Freeview etc..
yes they are HD
Can you install 3rd party apps like plex or emby?
@@scottayling5835 No, unfortunately.
Price included in all package deal of your monthly bill
What's wrong with Ready Player One 😥
I've had one for a couple of weeks but can't add the channel subscriptions and virgin can't figure out a fix
exactly the same issue as I'm having. basically only as good as freeview.
all i am getting is a black screen on mine :/
If I'm already a Prime/Netflix subscriber, will I still earn cashback from simply logging in? Or would I have to be a new customer signing up through Virgin Stream?
You need to sign up through Virgin Media
Great but I need an alternative to the Virgin 360, getting fast internet for cheap is easier now but we lack the ability to record live TV, that’s the main thing, we can all get on demand stuff & streaming boxes are planty but I don’t see the point if you can’t record, recording is essential to live TV.
Do you need to use the power adaptor or can you power it via the TV USB sockets?
I'd like to know this as well... Did you manage to find out? Cheers
no power adaptor. USB and HDMI.
@@emcauno cheers mate
I’m confused , why did it come with Ethernet cable if hasn’t got the port for it?
The ethernet port is on the charger. The box uses ethernet over power for the LAN.
I really hope that in the future this will work with the V6 box or 360 and be able to stream my recordings straight from the box (so I can have it upstairs) as well as streaming all the content you talk about!?
great video uncle spurt!
Works independently - your 360 will probably need to be returned under the new deal.
@@PhilFerrar I have heard reports that in the future it should pair up to existing V6 or 360 boxes and be able to stream recordings. For a monthly fee of course!!
@@stuartback2594 Hi Stuart, can you remember where you heard / saw this ? I've been following the "Stream" box since the early announcement (back in Oct 2021 I think) and have spoken to several VM 'agents' recently and there has been no mention of the linking up of these devices. Would be interested in any information you have. Cheers, Phil
@@PhilFerrar if you look under the comments for @marksapollo you will see I have left the same comment there, (by mistake at first) but they say that it is in the European market and it does as I hope?! Maybe false info maybe not. Just hope it works like that as would be seriously good for a lot of people like me who don't want/need true multiroom.
@@stuartback2594 Thanks Stuart, I'll take a look. Cheers, Phil
Set my box up and it’s got a red light on it and not doing anything :( anyone got any idea what I should do ?
plug the power through an adapter not a usb port.
Why does it come with a network cable if it doesn't have a network socket?
network socket in plug
Feels like Virgin playing catchup. Considering their s*** customer service, I'd be with literally any other provider if they could give me 500mbps like Virgin can. Once CityFiber is in my area, bye bye VM
Looks like £35 external box that turns your smart tv into a smart tv 😂
My TV ain't so smart any more! It needs a little friend.
I paid £10 but it allowed me to have a better deal on my broadband. I pay about £10/month *less* than without it. Also, my LG smart TV doesn't have an All 4 app, but this little box does.
Got one free yesterday doesn't have Plex so pointless will put in box and give back in 18 months so I don't get charged £100 for it or something
Can you download APK
Nice to see your are doing very well on RUclips now!
I heard he doesn't pay his income tax or VAT, no moneyback or guarantee.
@@GeordiLaForgery Yeah. He lives on Hooky Street 😄 C'est magnifique
@@GeordiLaForgery
will virgin media selling the stream box without there broadband in the future months do you know ?
I very very very much doubt it.
@@marksapollo when sky glass first came out you only get if you had sky broadband . now any one can get it
Has anyone tried this without Virgin Broadband?
why did i get charged a one off 70 pound fee ...
Does it have live tv to watch. Like non on demand stuff
yes
watch the video above!!
0:39 of this video, funnily that's exactly the same way I feel about Virgin Media.. and why have they put an Ethernet ret cable in the box when their isn't an Ethernet port?
There is an ethernet port on the power adapter.
I really hope that in the future this will work with the V6 box or 360 and be able to stream my recordings straight from the box (so I can have it upstairs) as well as streaming all the content you talk about!?
great video uncle spurt!
@@stuartback2594 I can confirm it will. In other markets in mainland Europe the box already has access to the recordings on the other ‘current’ boxes people have. You can have say a V6 and two of these new ones and see the recordings everywhere. It’ll come :)
@@Pipsispite I had a feeling it might. they don't want to limit it to broadband only customers do they. 👍
hopefully will stay at the same price and a 1 off payment?! but bet it'll be an additional payment per month when that comes.
@@stuartback2594 It is a 3,99 euros monthly fee unfortunately.. I doubt that’ll change once it comes.
Is it a global version or uk only?
It's available in all markets where Liberty Global is available. Most of Europe and some Latin America countries.
with the £35 fee i guess this becomes the customers property and would not need to be returned to version i.e at end of contract?
Yes you would have to return plus it only works on virgin broadband no other isp
I wonder if I can use this in Spain with a vpn set to UK. Would be good at the villa with some rainy days as the freesat is a bit hiffy when it's wet
xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD showing off
@@jlczk1337 why am I?
Looks great, about to re-contract my Virgin so might look into this. I see they gave you an ethernet cable but no ethernet port on the box? Is the connection for live tv fast enough?
Ethernet connection is in the plug for it so yes there is ethernet port
This is just the same as the full size virgin box but u lose the ability to record but prob have to pay extra
Where do you plug in the ethernet cable?
A quick google reveals that it is on the power adapter.
Missed a trick isolating you to Virgin broadband. Could have gained more customers.
Also micro usb instead of usb-c. Fortunately you only plug in once, unlike your mobile.
Exactly. I would love to use this, but Virgin Broadband is unavailable on my street in London
@@franklingoodwin I guess it's 4 ppl who hv virgin available in their area and would be a bonus 4 anyone considering switching, or even 2 convince other customers 2 switch
I posted on the forums about this. I had to leave VM as their broadband was unreliable and phone service didn't work right with the hub in modem mode, but the TV service was fine. So I'd be happy to pay for Stream, plus VM extra channel subs, but I can't go back to VM as broadband provider, so you're right, they are really missing out on a huge number of potential subscribers here.
Shame I don't have Virgin Media available in my street (in London. How is that even possible in London?) because I'm with O2 and would love to take advantage of this little bad boy
Do you have to pay tv licence with this ?
Don't answer the door
Can side apps be add
No, because it doesn't run Android. You're better off with an Amazon Fire stick for sideloading apps
Do a Asus zenfone 8 vs oneplus 8
Hang on why do they give you an ethernet cable when the box doesn't even have an ethernet port.....
Confused the f outta me
Usb hub
Exactly
It's on the power brick.
Probably at some point will have a software update that allows the use of Ethernet
just rang them and you cant get this if you already have a tv box, they say its only for customers that cant get a tv box
Should be ok if you’re out of a fixed contract and on a rolling monthly. That’s my understanding.
Any sign of Plex on this box??
Nope, unfortunately not.
Please re-review pixel 6
5:03 "You can't just say, 'Virgin, Stream'"
Thank heavens, that'll get you weird looks from the wife 😉😂
Nice to see you diversifying your income stream, not just China anymore we got Virgin Islands too.
Just got this as my Freeview signal is rubbish and this is a great alternative.
So i guess you have pay extra as well if you want a landline with Virgin
can you review the xiaomi pad 5?
Good looking box however I feel the service is flawed. Other than the £35 up front cost, if you want to watch Sky Sports on this box, it will cost you about £40 for that Sports package. Plus, the BT Sport package is an additional £20 on top. Then, you have to factor in the Virgin broadband cost, which is about £20 on top. So that’s a total of £80 right there. I’m currently paying the same for my combined 200Mb Broadband, TV and Phone package which provides far more content (including the 2 sports packages). 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Good point. Dont know why they dont just add all these apps to their new OS ON THE TV BOX. just tryna make a few extra bob. Virgin is generally OK so long as you don’t have to ever call em about a problem. That’s where they just go downhill.
BT Sport usually comes free with Virgin if you go for the bigger entertainment pack.
If you don't watch sports it's a lot cheaper though (just pay for the broadband after £35 one time)
Erm... This makes Glass look good
I would get this if they offered more than one stream box per house hold as of February 2023 they do not
Thought you could have two? Or is just a 360 and stream box allowed?
I'm going licence free and the woman at the call centre recommended this streaming box, but you would clearly need a licence for it as well. A pity. If they were smart they would make one with just on demand services for us licence free customers.
why pay for any streaming service just buy a £30 fire stick and pay someone £50 for a years sub
just put kodi on it yourself and it lasts for years plenty of RUclips videos telling you how to do it
@@essexginge9167 Kodi is dead, IPTV services are way better

Can you just clarify that it both comes with an ethernet CABLE but does not have an ethernet PORT? I don't disbelieve you but also that sounds completely stupid.
The Ethernet port is in the plug adapter.
So where does the Ethernet cable go…
network socket in plug
Rare to see a Saturday video!
Expensive KOdi Box.
No record function is a big let down grrrrrrrrrr
When they let you go to Google play I might take it out the box
New customers only if you have tv with them already they won't let you get one
They said the same to me, new customers only.
Good to know
Bludy nightmare trying to order one of these boxes from virgin they make no commission on them and will try sell you extra channels you don’t want or a new mobile phone 😢waste of time
You mentioned an Ethernet cable if we “Don’t” have WiFi?? But we need wife fir the Ethernet
Virgin customer service is that dire I'd literally try anything/everything before I looked at this 😕
Sunderland vs Wednesday then.
It looks exactly as shit as the Firestick interface. What's the point?
Does it not support ethernet?
network socket in plug
Shame its Virgin customers only. Seems a bit pointless for most of us then.
Someone is using your, "techspurt" image as a scam in replies.
Welcome to the 2020s Virgin Media. Think they’re to the party too late. Majority of people can do this already with their smart tvs, Roku boxes, fire sticks, now tv boxes etc etc etc. this isn’t a game changer.
Think they have dropped the ball, saying only if you have our broadband, I live in the countryside, but have gigaclear full fibre 600mb up and down. How many more customers will they get if they opened it to all.
