Pure bliss, remembering the old NS. I was around in PA from 2011-2017 and I believe I saw one CR unit hanging around Enola during my years there. Still miss everything else, from the D8's and older SD70s, hell the SD40E helpers had just recently replaced SD40-2s on Horseshoe Curve! Even those engines didn't last 10 years. Spent a bunch of time on the old CR/NYC main in Chesterton this summer and how things have changed. GEVOS and AC44C6Ms with the occasional ACe or D9 was mostly all I saw. Very sad sight.
Sidenote: I counted, out of this entire video, only 2 GEVOs, and 3 SD70M-2s. These are pretty much the newest engines in this compilation. What's funny is that the SD70M-2s also are gone from the roster!
Wow, I feel like this video was made for me. My favorite railfan location (Vermilion) with my favorite era of trains to model NS/Conrail. Definitely saving this to my favorites. Thank you!
Talk about hella rare power and horns! It’s sad to think that most of the these units are nothing but rotting rust or rebuilt in sd60e’s and 33ecos and other, but in a way, they are still being used! Lots of great horns too man, I personally love horns just as much as the units, if not more if it’s a great one! Thanks for making this awesome video man, see you in the next once ✌️
Hard to believe the amount of blue still around in 2010. I thought I never witnessed conrail in my life until I saw this video. I may have no recollection of it, but I definitely saw the blue in action at one point.
@@wrrail A few ways; the easier is to have a radio scanner set to the railroad's frequency, and you'll hear them call signals. For instance, this train said "NS 14N clear, 216, track 2 east out." However, some trains always have identifiable cuts of cars. 309 always has a bunch of two-bay sand hoppers on the rear, 364 was always reliable with coils, auto parts, and old power, and 14N always had gondolas or coil cars up front. Look for 145, it appears many times in this video with a healthy string of auto parts boxcars on the headend.
It's funny, I remember vividly the railfans complaining back in 2010 about the lack of variety. I appreciated what we had in 2010, and it wouldn't last forever.
Those Conrail engines hopefully are still around being used somewhere I noticed some of NS horns sound like Conrail most probably got painted NS logo and colors

It's a strange shop mutt, but officially a "K5LL." Very similar to the K5LLA, but no A bells and a 1L. The 1L is that deep note you hear after it goes by. I've never heard another one, it was definitely sweet.

Conrail Quality all the way
You said it! All!!! The way!!! Baby!!!😜😜😜🚂
Era coming to an end said it to late I think
Rip CR BLUE 1999
I miss seeing conrail colors amazing I remember seeing them only when I was 5-7 years old good video love it💙👍
Awesome video! Crazy how much railroading has changed in just 10 years
1:27 right outta the 90s shot

I seen a Conrail locomotive running on a Jacksonville Florida line today. I thought I was seeing a ghost, because I haven't seen one in over 25 years.
Probably the 8098
Heritage unit most likely. All the original Big Blues are either out or repainted.
The years of Geep leaders and standard cabs are gone sadly. This was a great video that shows that great period of railfanning
Honestly though. The variety was crazy.

Looking thru the comments it looks like I kinda took off of gt rail prod’s but I swear I didn’t mean to! Lol
Surprised that so many conrail units survived till 2010!

@@wrrail what's that suppose to mean?
Grew up seeing lots of Conrails here in Indianapolis, and also visiting rail yard in Avon, IN.
Great Stuff! It sad to think a lot the Units in this video are either gone, or hanging on by a thread or have been rebuilt.
Conrail is back
This video is too nostalgic to me as I watched most of these clips on Cool Trains.
the 2010s was an interesting time for railfans

Wow the Nostalgia is real, I miss those days.
I miss them too! Thanks to your heads up I caught that crazy lashup on 14N at 27:25
@@NorfolkSouthernModel Question how to you read train codes like "14N" Do you have a dector or something?

@@NorfolkSouthernModel Is there a certan radio scanner for railfanning? and how do you get Frequencys?
@@NorfolkSouthernModel have you seen a GP60B before? If so, tell us how it felt seeing a cabless train
I can tell the crews preferred to run a Conrail painted unit as leader over an NS painted unit. The way it should be
Awesome video dude! Tons of great catches in here! You won't find most of this stuff on the rails today unfortunately. Glad you got them when you did
36:26 NS 5254, crazy to see how it was 10 years ago, today it works in yard service with an admiral cab and the horse head paint
I’ve seen 5253 still with her high hood
All of the High Hood SD40-2's now have admiral cabs & horseheads
There are still high hoods with the old & horsehead paint
I miss those times when Conrail existed...
It's still in service wdym
Very entertaining video. Had to add to my favorites!
Thank you!
23:31 was amazing with a high hood!
I surely agree with you man
That P5 was a monster one 😍😍

this might sound crazy but I was born on May 4th of 2010

What I'd give to go back.
My favorite is 15:15.
What make that bell in the loco sound like it’s got two of them
I wish I can see more conrail the only conrail I've seen is 8098
Ikr that's the conrail heritage unit
I saw the heritage unit too
