What an incredible example of what a dancer can be. Gene Kelly incorporated classical ballet technique with tap and jazz to make such memorable movie moments.

ikr Kelly always seemed to be floating; the way he held himself, the fact that he made it seem effortless, and he was in sheer ecstasy with the joy of dance. If old Pavarotti is singing for God up there, Kelly is dancing.

Ok I usually don't comment on videos but I have to with the superiority that is Gene Kelly. For those that don't understand that this is true talent because there is no "twerking" just stop. This isn't some edited scene clipped together because the actors weren't able to film it in one go. This is one take of precision entertainment and perfection. From an actor who is known for being a stickler for getting every move right. This was a man who was proud of his craft and worked at it until he physically couldn't anymore.

Out of the newspapers and squeaky board the ever exceptionally-versatile Mr Gene Kelly was able to create a brilliant, groundbreaking, and commendable solo tap-dance number as one of the main attractions in MGM's Summer Stock. How exuberant, inventive, and well-coordinated his dance steps & his animated interaction with the papers & the plank were. His whistling, his board-tapping,his paper-ripping,and Mr Harry Warren's beautiful music had remarkably produced truly-wonderful sound and pleasant mood.

I love this movie, because if you know the back story behind it it's really touching. This was the last film Judy did with MGM and originally Gene wasn't going to do it. He did it for her. His first movie at MGM was with Judy, For Me and My Gal. He was a rare and amazing talent, something that Hollywood is missing today. I don't know if I'm the only one I doubt it, but when you watch these old movies they actually get you to feel something not just enjoy the flashy effects.

I envy anyone who has never seen this before; the surprise toward the end was such a delight the first time I saw it. My very favorite part is when he gets up on those steps & digs in (4:03-4:09). What a powerpack! I have to scream "woo!" every time I watch it. This highlights GK's innovation & playfulness, and is an island of perfection in a dismal movie made only tolerable by Gene's charm & his chemistry with the heartbreakingly sweet Judy Garland.

MJ was the king of pop. i agree he could sing amazingly and he had some gd dance moves, HOWEVER Kelly, Astaire, O'conner, Garland, julie andrews and others could do the same moves easily. they are ALL amazing artists so lets just appreciate them and let everyone choose their favorite. MJ made more money and sold more but it is thanks to the oldies that he had a media to go through. remember the oldies didn't have the selling opportunites as MJ. thanks for upload sorry to carry on topic
