The Story in SoCal

- After two weeks of competition in which multiple CrossFit Games veterans failed to qualify, SoCal athletes took the floor at one of the most hotly contested regionals.
Favored to win Event 1-a 1-rep-max hang snatch-Games runner-up Lindsey Valenzuela faltered with 185 lb. overhead, surprising fans.
"I didn't like that I missed the 185," Valenzuela said after the event, "but that's the way weightlifting works ... that's why it's kind of a fun sport."
Despite putting up a tough fight over the next six events, Valenzuela was not able to edge out rookie individual competitor Lauren Fisher for the third and final qualifying spot. Atop the podium stood Games third-place finisher Valerie Voboril, and Becca Voigt-who will make her seventh consecutive trip to the Games-took second.
"The nerves have released. I am just so happy," Voigt said at the end of the weekend. "It's so cool to be going back to the Games. I honestly didn't expect that I would be doing that."
On the men's side, Central East transplant Dan Bailey, was sure to shake things up. Having trained with Bailey leading up to the regional, Josh Bridges said he uses the friendly rivalry to keep him going.
"There's a lot of good competitors in SoCal, but ... having a guy like Dan to train with is just an extra push that you always need in the gym sometimes when you're just not feelin' it," Bridges said.
At the end of Day 3, Bridges and Bailey took the second and third spots on the podium, respectively, and Kenneth Leverich stood on top.

Best reportage of all!
Awesome video. Great editing, direction, stories... everything. Psyched to see CrossFit flourish. Modern societies can benefit from it's growth.
I had been waiting for this video for so long...
Fisher is going to kick ass at the games
Alexandre Asselin rofl
Wow the best regional segment yet. This one was amazing
agreed
my new favorite video..whoever edited this knows what their doing.
valenzuela has such a warm and happy personality *sarcasm
i thought i was the only one to notice
I think she lets her emotions get the best of her. Probably my least favorite female CrossFit athlete out there. Anywho, go Lauren Fisher!
Lindsay is really cool actually. Try watch the video with her and Sam "an unlikely friendship"
lauren is so perfect it hurts
Great video!
Great content
bridges was rocking the metcons prototype at this regionals...
what region is Dan Bailey originally from, cause I see him training a lot with Froning was he originally from Central East?
Anchor: I wanna see you fug it up
Bridges: I wanna fug it up too
:) Dead________
Lindsey you are the best
I love how josh bridges celebrates
CrossFit® Marston Sawyers def did an excellent job!!! What was his playlist for this video?
And body builders say crossfitters are dodging gains... not true. crossfitters can also touch their toes, most big body builders would struggle with that.
8:22 bridges already had some experimental nike metcon 1's back in 2014..
can someone please explain to me how that constitutes as a no rep on the rope climb
Unwrittenglory some of those chicks have the thighs to make a difference.
When I saw the event live I couldn't tell why there was a no rep. I think she got robbed on that workout.
the no-rep for valenzuela was due to her thighs clenching the rope right at the start of the rope climb, you can see it in the live broadcast, but it was a very strict ruling and most judges wouldnt have seen it. Here the head judge was watching as well, so thats why it probably got enforced. Strict but correct ruling.
How come it says there are 6 replies but when I click they're all gone.....
anybody knows the name of the song that starts at 8.29 ?
Is there one for 50+ y/o cross fitness contest?
What's the name of the song at 8:30?
is this good for your joints? this crossfit biz is getting a lot of momentum.
Isn't curious that the way this video was edited during Lindsey Valenzuela no rep climb that you do not see the beginning of the climb where she was no rep? I thought that the different angle we would clearly see the violation but it was conveniently edited out of this video also.
Anyone know the song at 8:30?
what's the track at 14:20?
Back then when Leverich was a beast!
so: is this a competition of people doing circuit training? how could this be effective if form is forsaken for doing quick reps?
Its not they only care about time.
What form did you see that was bad?
Austin Geary That push ups in the min 7.
Oh the burpees? This is bc they are in a competition to go as fast as they can. The requirement is to get your stomach on the ground on each side of the bar, alternating. It's not a textbook push-up, bc that would sacrifice time.
Austin Geary
Take a pick...
Name of the last song?
Song at 8:30?
name of 8:30 song??
que le paso a valenzuela?????
damn they should have put Bridges' scream from the other video in there
I thought Dan was in central east??? Don't you just have to compete in regionals in the region that you're from?
Super 👍🏋️
I respect the level of fitness. It's got to be hell but after so many years of powerlifting, bodybuilding and olympic assistance movements and combat sports, my body at 42 years old is a wreck. I have a bigger total than I had when I was in my late 20s early 30s but the injuries are debilitating. It takes pain killers and ice every day to get out of bed. There is no way I could handle the stress of doing olympic lifts while fatigued. These athletes are doing some impressive things but I fear that they may develop serious joint problems when they get to be my age. I do Olympic lifts as assistance movements for overall body strength with substantial weight for GPP to help with speed and accelerating strength.
My form on the snatch and clean suck as I am not an Olympic lifter, but I never do more than 2 reps on the clean and jerk or snatch and I use sub maximal weight. Hat's off to these athletes for being so durable.
I can't imagine that you can walk away from this sport with less injuries than powerlifting, olympic lifting, power bodybuilding, and combat type sports (like collegiate wrestling and BJJ), which have already destroyed my shoulders, knees and hips. I wish I could do what these guys do as far as the combination of strength, power and endurance. I always focused on absolute strength which is recipe for injury over time. When I competed in wrestling I did my endurance work separately through intense drilling, shadow wrestling, calisthenics, interval training, live sparring and so forth. I think the sport would be far safer if the olympic lifts were not part of a circuit and performed while fatigued. I think Pyros Dimas, Vassily Alexiev and the other greats in Olympic Lifting would agree with me. Mixing it all together has got to be hell but I think the safety of the athletes is being compromised with all of the different fitness qualities being part of a single event. I wish it were safe because it kicks ass watching these men and women perform. I am just not convinced that it is. Please let me know that I am wrong and I am all ears. Keep up the good work.
I know your comment is old, but still thanks for the insight. I’ve been doing CrossFit for 7 years now and teaching for almost 6. I agree with a lot of what you said, the biggest thing to remember is that the likelihood of these athletes being “clean” is slim to none, to handle that capacity and workload while being natural is out of question. When I was really going for it I was doing 2 full sessions per day 5-6 days a week and my body would sustain it for short periods of time and then would act up on me. I don’t care what people say, yes genetics play a huge role but the intensity of training Year after year is damn near impossible on top of everything else we have going on in our lives.
Matt Chan is seriously HILARIOUS. Best commentator of 2016 hands down.
I would love to see Tommy Pease go to the Games
When is the story of California going to come out?
Lauren is going to beat them ALL!!
do they test in crossfit?
some of those little dudes seems jacked as hell.
you noticed too ...

sskkuuddrraa
kinda what i meant by little dudes...
Crazylalalalala they do test but they also tested Lance Armstrong but he was never caught until he came out and told the world... test are beaten.. every physical sports has drugs at top level
TEAM LAUREN FISHER!! DEFINITELY CUTE
To bad they didn't show the reaction from Dan, I was excited to see him at the games... to bad he got third :(
CrossFit® Ow I see now, it's only Canada that has the top 2 from each region! Well I'm happy to hear his! And feeling a bit dumb for finding out just now :')
Can't wait for the games though!
People are talking shit about Lauren right now! She fucking competed in 2012!!! Who else is in the game from 2012 other than Annie.....
Bridges is the fucking man
if these women ever get into a fight, we will surely see kettlebells flying :P..they kick ass hehe
Josh Bridges baby face!
"Why not have the fittest woman in the world to help you get ready and do what she just did" hahaha get kicked out of the competition he meant? :D
what the fuck is that? 6:43 Becca Voigt doing front squats on her toes?! NO REP!
@10:44 LOL truth
lauren is beautiful
That's me crack your knuckles crack your back and go get em
Lindsey Valenzuela got robbed. That "no rep" on the rope climb was complete BS. Watch 12:00 - 12:06.
Oh Lauren Fisher...you are attractive
Damn Lindsey looked terrible there. Better luck next year.
Lauren is hawttt..but damn crossfit is the only sport where leaders have the least 'points'
They didn't really follow Kenny Leverich, but he looked ridiculous at Regionals...like Froning style ridiculous
He's like the sun. If I look at him too long I melt. Too much hot, cannot handle.
Valenzuela would have been much quicker if she hadn't had all that physio tape weighing her down.
I love CrossFit, but if you want the sports world to take CrossFit seriously, I would suggest to cut the profanity off of your videos. Just saying.
Fuck that.
Lindsey needs to learn to control her emotions. Not very professional...
Is there one for 50+ y/o cross fitness contest?
I guess there isn't, not even a reply. A shame
Yep there is, masters goes up to 60+ ☺️
