- The 2014 North West Regional gave fans what they wanted: suspense.
Coming into the regional after a respectable Games debut in which she took 14th place overall, Rory Zambard looked poised to stand on the podium once again. But after two days of competition, Zambard sat 6 points out of the third qualifying spot to the Games.
"It's gonna take a lot of hard work on my part and the stars aligning a little bit, I think," Zambard said at the end of Day 2.
On a tense Day 3, Zambard nabbed second- and third-place finishes in the sixth and seventh events and will make a return trip to the Games.
"'I can, I can, I can' is all I was letting myself think," Zambard said.
Cole Sager, a former NFL hopeful and Zambard's training partner, finished first and will also head to Carson. At the end of the weekend, the two shared a huge hug on the competition floor, with Zambard crying out, "We did it!"
"I'm pretty happy and pretty excited about my future," Sager said on Day 3.
Joining Zambard are Emily Carothers-making her second Games appearance-and Regan Huckaby, who will make her Games debut.
Twenty-one-year-old former gymnast Cody Anderson and Games vet Ben Stoneberg stood below Sager on the men's side.
"I didn't expect ... to make it to the Games," Anderson said, "so it's pretty amazing."

I sure did looooove these "The Story in __________" series, but this one had the most suspense! I even knew who was making it!

I mean, I totally respect bud's decision to do crossfit instead of the NFL. To each his own. But as a man who has followed a desire instead of a more lucrative, as well as enjoyable career, now that I'm older and have more responsibility, looking back, I wish sometimes wish I had made a few different choices that would have benefited my family more in the long run. I hope he made the right decision. But good for him. Not knocking him or hating at all. God bless.
