    I have to agree with your review. Frogg Toggs has been my go to rain jacket for UL backpacking. Inexpensive, breathable (fairly), lightweight, and if I all but destroy it, easily repaired with the ultimate fix-all, duct tape. And, if I do destroy it, my wallet doesn't cry when I need a new one. Oh...you rock the pink!!! Happy trails.

    It’s less like Tyvek and more like the bibs you wear at the dentist. I remember thinking years ago that the dentist bibs would be a heck of a material to make something with. Mr Toggs must have had the same idea!
    I put some shock cord through the bottom hem and added line locks to mine. There’s a channel that goes all the way around the jacket through the hem. I use the shockcord more for keeping warm in the winter than dry in the summer.

    Do you or have you ever used wind pants before? I use to always carry rain pants but seemed to never use them, or if I did I would sweet so bad and overheat that I ended up taking them off and getting my legs wet anyways. So what I’m now going more towards is shorts and leggings and then maybe some wind pants, looking for your thoughts about that. This past summer I hiked the JMT, didn’t carry rain pants and was fine, a bit uncomfortable when it had ice cold rain/hail a few times but ya, figured wind pants would be a good lightweight thing to trap some heat in, any recommendations if u use them

    • @LintHikes
      @LintHikes  6 лет назад

      I've carried MontBell windpants, and they work perfect. The Frogg Togg pants work too, but they're SUPER delicate. I've gotten some interesting vent holes in mine...

    My fave is the Marmot waterproof windbreaker -you can often find them on sale at Rei- i shopped thoroughly comparing alot of specs and found they have a great bslance of toughness and lightness - mine went for 3 plus years with alot of daily in the cooler months - after that it started to fray at the seams n such - then it got stolen so I just bought another used one online for $45 (normally $200+) -main thing is having pit zips in whatever i buy to maximize temperature control -youbspend extra for that detail but your body spends /waist alot of energy on temp control so its worth it

    I’ve not taken the pants out on trail yet. Do you use the FT pants in the rain?

    • @LintHikes

      No reason to upgrade, they're legit. I stopped using the Frogg Togg pants tho since they always tear on me. I prefer windpants for most hiking...if anything at all.

    Sizing is always an issue, and one of the reasons it's often no use to buy actual sets of gear bc the size a person needs in a top and in a bottom often don't match. Regardless, it's good to know that the tops accommodate chests in the low 40s (the U.S. average) AND larger ones like mine as well. Finding one that doesn't also go down to my knees would be the issue. ;)

      They're both great packs, and I own multiples of each in different fabrics. • @LintHikes
      @LintHikes  4 года назад

      Beca Trebil realistically, no rain jacket you’d take on a hiking trip is that waterproof. They either wet out from sweat, or eventually rain seeps in. Only a PVC jacket is fully waterproof but you’d never hike it that.
      That’s why I use an umbrella. THAT is totally waterproof, and used in conjunction with a rain resistant shell, does wonders to keep precipitation at bay.

    Funny video. I've never tried out the frogg toggs. I have just upgraded to an Outdoor Research Helium II after using a super bulky/heavy Cabelas rain jacket for years. It is incredibly lightweight at 6.5 ounces. OR also has a great warranty on their gear if anything happens to it. Have you tried out the Helium II? It is 8 times the price of a frogg toggs, do you think it's 8 times better? Worth the cost? Would love to get your impression on it. Also, i've never used an umbrella hiking before....what makes it so great in your opinion?
    Love your videos! It's great to get the perspective of such an experienced outdoorsman.

      @tkpwns04 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply man! Glad to hear you are liking the Helium 2.
      I'm more of a backpacker that is now getting into ultrarunning (just finished my 2nd ultra 2 days ago - Deadhorse 50k in Moab) and am now trying to use my newer experiences to lighten my load while backpacking/hiking. Getting more into trail running has really helped me to question why I have been carrying so much crap while backpacking.
      Have you thought about making a video detailing your transition into ultralight backpacking? Have you always been lightweight or did you start off with a heavier pack? I would love to learn more about your transition to super light-weight/minimalist gear.
      Keep up the videos. It's great to get to learn from you on what works and what hasn't throughout all of your miles on trail.

      I have a hard time returning gear that I thrash on a long hike, even if they offer a lifetime warranty. Feels like I'm taking advantage of their return policy, since the warranty with these companies is usually limited to manufacturers defects. I consider Frogg Toggs to be disposable gear, and at less than $20, you could go through 5 jackets before they became comparable in price to the OR Helium 2. That being said, I love my OR Helium, and often bring it on hikes.

    Lint. Make a hiking style video: what your typical day looks like. Choices you frequently make. Please!!!!!:)

      Someday! I'm still learning how to make these super simple videos...and still messing them up. Instead of doing a bunch of editing, I'm trying to do it in one shot, so it's more real. Anyone can sound like a pro reading cue cards and editing out the pauses in their dialogue!

      Lint Hikes. Great. Look forward to all your videos. I’d much rather hear choppy uncut info from a true legend than fancy edited fluff. What ever you can share is gold.

      A 100 years ago, pink was considered a masculine color, and blue a female color. Google says so, anyway...

    Now I understand that adoring look in Jupiter's eyes. ;)
    I just ordered mine so I can TRY to look HALF as cool as you.
    I'll start a Lint fan club and we'll all wear pink toggs to show our Love Of Lint (LOL).

      I'm so bad with technology. That website has been up for many years and I sometimes forget about it. I'm just here hunting and pecking at my keyboard like an ape, and now making videos where the whole world can see how bad I am with modern stuff! It's like you all get to watch me grow up! "Awww...lookit he learned how to put music on his video! Awww now he edited in a stillshot!" They grow up so fast...
