Trying Out "Banished Knight's Greatsword" On Malenia (NG+3)

- My favourite-looking Greatsword out of the two "blenders" in the game. With how the animation frames of the blender are keyed so closely together, that's the reason why each hit of the R1 string never fails to connect or even why the jumping R1 into R1 is a true-combo. That makes the BKGS and KGS fantastic candidates for status infusions. Since I like Frostbite, Cold is what I went with and its C/C/B scaling is wild and can fit into a variety of builds.
I never really used Upward Cut in a proper boss fight so I figured now's a good time. While it's often seen as an offensive skill due to the high stance damage and a follow-up charged R2 (that also consumes a lot of stamina) can break an enemy's stance regularly, I don't think that's what it's meant for as seen in this fight. The way I've come to understand it, UC is a defensive maneuver because of the launcher and the stamina you use. Get hyper-armour to poise through a dangerous attack, launch them, get some breathing room as they recover, then back away to heala. Unless you're at a high level or maxed out the Endurance hardcap, being aggressive with UC would lead to a lot of avoidable deaths. If you really wanted an aggressive skill that immobilises an enemy too, use Lion's Claw. Piercing Fang doesn't knock bosses down but its utility and range makes up for it.

Banished Knight‘s Greatsword and Zweihander are still my favorite weapons. I love the moveset and playstyle with both of them so much.
Nice, I've always loved the blender moveset; going all the way back to DS2. The Zweihander also happens to be my all-time favourite Ultra Greatsword because of the thrusts. It's too good on slower weapons like that and pairs really well with Royal Knight's Resolve.
About time! This is canonically the only true godslaying weapon, because Hewg was smithing it for the whole game.

I'm going to give it a proper field test in Farum Azula so you can expect to see more of it. I've always liked the blender moveset and I just refuse to resort to the Moonlight Greatsword because though it's efficient and solves most of my issues, I don't like the lack of creativity in it.

I get you. I'm a fashion-enthusiast myself and the BKGS is my favourite of the two blender Greatswords mainly because the shorter, thicker and rounded scabbard matches my overall armour fashion.

I don't know if that is a dumb question, but how do you fight Malenia so many times? Do you have a lot of characters prepared for the fight? you savescum? or use some kind of cheat engine to reset the boss?
My guess would be save scumming. Backup a save filed prior to the fight and then copy paste it back into the game files. You can do the same the drop weapons for your mates (on PC of course - though I think you can do the same on Console with cloud saves)
Either I backup my save or I teleport out with the Memory of Grace item.
Hey sir, can you explain to me how did you change the greatsword's affinity to do magic damage and kept her ability? I really want do know it because if possible, i'd change mine to fire (or electricity) so i can kill Ordovis... it's so goddamn hard right now.
Apologies for the late response! You will need the Ash of War and specific Whetblades for different elemental infusions. For the Stamp (Uppercut) skill, you can buy it from Bernahl at the Warmaster's Shack in Limgrave. If he's not there, you can find him at the Volcano Manor.
If you want to infuse your weapon with Fire, you need to grab the Red-Hot Whetblade from Redmane Castle in Caelid. For Lightning, you need to grab the Sanctified Whetblade from the Fortified Manor in Leyndell.
Then, go to Hewg in the Roundtable Hold and choose Ashes of War, pick the skill you want to use and you can choose your element based on the Whetblade you have.

How do you do that over head to upward swipe move
That's just the moveset of the Banished Knight's Greatsword. The only other Greatswords that share a similar moveset are the Knight's Greatsword and the Inseparable Blade. The latter is the only one that is a "unique" weapon and can't be infused with different skills, like the BKGS and KGS.
Can anyone recommend a good ash of war for this weapon pls?
For PvE? There's a lot but it's hard to say because it does depend on your build and playstyle. But if you're just looking for something simple that does a lot of damage and feels good, you can't go wrong with Piercing Fang, Lion's Claw, Giant's Hunt or Chilling Mist.
