  • Instructional video for lower limb amputees on navigating stairs and ramps with a prosthetic device.
    Navigating Stairs:
    - Above Knee Amputee: 0:19
    - Below Knee Amputee: 3:49
    - Bilateral Below Knee Amputee: 6:33
    Navigating Ramps:
    - Above Knee Amputee: 7:57
    - Below Knee Amputee: 11:19
    - Bilateral Below Knee Amputee: 13:50
    Notes:
    - Above knee amputees utilizing a mechanical knee, and not a computerized knee, must keep the prosthetic knee locked at all times when descending stairs and ramps. If the knee is unlocked under load, it will collapse and may result in significant bodily injury. This is best accomplished by tightening the buttock, or gluteal muscles, and pressing into the back of the socket. This will prevent the prosthetic knee from buckling on stairs and declines of a lower grade. Taller grades of ramp may require walking down sideways as demonstrated in this video.
    - Always practice with the support of both hands and with supervision while learning how to navigate stairs and ramps. They are a challenging and potentially dangerous obstacle if safety is not the priority.

In this video series David mentions tips for individuals with any type of prosthesis. However, we are looking to increase our representation of various prosthetic componentry in our upcoming videos. So thank you for the suggestion!

@@MissionGait I am waiting for you.

    • @MissionGait
      @MissionGait  3 года назад +2

We do not have any current amputee models using the 3R80 knee, but we are aware that this is something that a lot of our viewers would like to see. It is difficult to say when we may be able to have an individual with this prosthetic knee that will be available for filming. However, I can provide a few extra notes for you. The approach to the technique is very similar for ascending the stairs and ramps. The greatest difference is with descending: As mentioned in the video a knee such as the 3R80 must remain locked out while going down a ramp or stairs. So the prosthetic side will be the first leg down a step, and ramps are often best performed going sideways with the prosthetic side on the downhill side. Most importantly do not step down with the non-prosthetic side as the prosthetic knee will most likely buckle and you will fall. For more specific details, check out the video again. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

@@MissionGait But when I go down slope,I go down slope at the first step by my good knee for the first step.
That's also okay for me to walk to down slope by this function.

Hi, friend! While we aren't sure about the details of your condition, this series is intended to help prosthetic patients learn how to walk on their own without using a walking aid. We recommend consulting with your physician to figure out the best type of physical therapy practices for you.

Hi there, it takes a lot of practice to walk without any assistive devices! It requires good balance and strength. Talking to a local physical therapist may provide more insight as to how you can walk without a walker.

I would NOT trust the C-Leg prosthetics I have had with this process ...especially going down straight skipping a step. Crash and burn! Sideways down on a slope.
